  1. 1)Thomas had 6 rebounds, yes thats 6 rebounds. 2)Please refer back to the first game of the Flynn era.I believe it was relatively high scoring and look how that played out.
  2. Ashland was very physical and ran a great deal. They will have to find a fifth starter and develop some bench if they wish to continue to play in this fashion.Thomas looked very good-Wilcox and Bonner played well although if Bonner continues to play in the same manner he will definitely be facing bench time during the season because of foul trouble.Mcdavid didn't score much and looked rusty-he will be fine in a few weeks.Pendleton was very impressive and actually let early in the third quarter 44-31 before Ashland went on a 22-4 run to take a 53-48 lead.Belcher was very impressive but PC is far from a one man team as they have several other good players. It was a very entertaining scrimmage.
  3. I think Ashland is playing Rock Hill not Coal Grove.Rock Hill is a much better team.
  4. IF Russell plays this season like they did in the preview no one in the 16th will touch them. They were easily the best team on the court Tuesday night with Elliott being the second best.Of course Fleming attempted to beat Russell by pressing and pushing the ball which played right into the hands of Russell. If they play each other during the regular season I will interested to see if Fleming plays the same style.Russell will benefit tremendously by playing South Laurel.Turner is running the floor very well.
  5. Where and what time is the scrimmage? Also is the scrimmage open to the general public?
  6. You are exactly right.Ashland is much better with 14-16 kids that want to play than having 20-25 with some that are on the "fence".Although I am not associated with the Ashland program I know several of the players and their parents. They have had nothing but good things to say about Coach Biggs. There seems to be an excitement this year that has been absent the past few years.
  7. If accurate the most impressive aspect of the signing was the reported ACT score of 29.
  8. Fastbreak or RickyP-I know that RH will be in the KBA showcase but who else will they scrimmage?
  9. Does anyone have any information on when other 16th region teams will be scrimmaging?
  10. Do you have that correct? Blanchester will be playing both East and West?I know that Ohio schools are allowed 5 scrimmages. Will this count as one or two for them? Also who else will East and West be scrimmaging this year?
  11. It may not be Barker but I agree with in general with what Nets is saying. It will probably be a point guard and someone who is active.Barker fits that description as does Wolfenbarker(Greenup Co.) and Mullins (Raceland). These three will be responsible for pressuring the ball and then getting"off the ball" and helping out which can lead to steals.Martin and Faulkner are capable but I see them as sharing primary defensive guard duties with others.Thomas will probably be moved out of ther PG position and play the 2 or 3.Others to watch(that have not been mentioned) include Hollingsworth (West Carter) and Burge(East Carter).
  12. You are very correct.RH is probably in the top 4-7 teams in the region.Everyone is expecting a great deal but it must remembered that the Royals have won but one region game in the last three years.Do I think they will exceed that this year?Of course! But they still have much to prove on the court.BTW who will RH scrimmage in the preseason?
  13. I believe that is in reference to Tony Arthur.According to the RH folks he is capable of stopping anyone. We will see.
  14. Drew is a very good player but he did not avg. 20 and 10 last year.BTW I don't think you are crazy but after watching both teams play several times last year I felt Ashland ran more "stuff" for Drew than Russell did for Jonathan.
  15. I agree. It would be great to see seeding in every district.I am a fan of one of the smallest schools in the area and I still believe that seeding is the fairest way to play the district.
  16. There is not a chance they will play during the regular season.RH wants the game much more than Ashland does and that in itself is enough for Ashland not to schedule. However the game makes sense- no matter how you view it. For Ashland they get to play a quality opponent who happens to be in the same district. They have scheduled the other two district teams(Fairview/Boyd County). Not many teams want to play the first game of the district"blind."This almost cost Ashland last year in the first round of the district against RH.If it is a home game Ashland will be assured of a huge turnout with an electric atmosphere which is not always the case.An away game at the Hill would entail a 5 minute bus ride and would provide easy access for Tomcat fans. All the reasons that would allow Ashland to benefit from the game would also hold true for Rose Hill. As a fan of another school in the area I would love to be able to sit back and watch them play. But as I said earlier I don't see this happening and I believe the more that RH fans clamor for a game the more entrenched certain Ashland fans will be against a meeting.
  17. Not completely accurate but close. You cannot play varsity sports in West Virginia while in middle school. In Kentucky an individual may play varsity sports before academically entering High School. There are three exceptions:Football,Soccer and Wrestling. In Kentucky there have been several 5th/6th grade female regional and state champions in such sports as Cross country and Golf.
  18. What happened with Coach Morrison from last year? Did he leave on his own or was he shown the door?
  19. Then he is definitely not a hold back.In fact unless he has a birthday in the next couple of days he is not even an AAU "grade-exception".
  20. Off the top of my head I think Lafayette in 79.It may have been their only loss.
  21. Former Ashland High basketball player Mark Collins passed away at KDMC in Ashland yesterday.Mark was 48.He was a former All Area player(73-74;74-75).I played against Mark in High School and can attest that he was a very good player.More importantly he was a great guy.The family has my deepest sympathy at this difficult time.
