  1. Gee I just hope the Eagles have a chance. After all Boyd has the "hands down" POY;the game is at Boyd and according to you the Fairview coach is a "joke".I imagine most FHS fans will be happy to just finish within 30-40 points.
  2. Redblood -I don't think anyone is saying that Cooksey is the "God of coaches" in the area but IMO he has done a good job.Remember Fairview lost a 2 time all area player(Fannin),returned no double digit scorers and only played 8 out of 28 games at home this year. They have none of the players being touted as POY yet they have managed to win 20 games. They have 4 players avg. double figures(Can any other team boast such balance) which says a lot about the coaching philosophy.
  3. Paranoia will destroya...Most people are picking BC,2 of the 3 ADI writers picked BC, the Lexington Herald picked BC to win the region and the game is at Boyd. Please spare us the "Woe is me" attitude.
  4. Like I stated earlier the only chance RH had was to play at home. They should have been allowed to host the tournament-However having said that I don't think those in positions of power fought very hard to fight the Ashland AD.I am not talking about anyone DIRECTLY associated with the team. The coaches and players definitely wanted to play Ashland at RH.
  5. With all due respect to the Cubster I don't think either game will be very close.Greenup by 15 plus and Russell by the same(even more if they get to shoot free throws).
  6. Owens,McCowan and VanHoose are all very worthy candidates.Owens is the best offensive player,VanHoose the best shooter and McCowan the best all around(He averages more assists than the other two while playing center). An earlier post was correct when they questioned the defensive ability/effort of Owens. There isn't a lot there. Also McCowan is somewhat penalized by playing on such a good team.He is not the main scoring focus for Morgan they have many other options.Remember in games involving these three teams Morgan was 2-0,Boyd 2-1 and Russell 0-3.Having said all this there is not a more explosive player in the region than Owens,a shooter with more range than Van Hoose(also little known fact he is shooting 65% plus on 2 pt. attempts this year) and more of all around player than McCowan.
  7. It doesn't matter who guards Owens he is going to get 30.However the manner in which he gets that 30 is important. Will he go 13-18 or 11-32?
  8. Just a slight correction Cubster-Fairview has has 3 tough losses in their last 4 games-There was a victory against East preceding the last two games.
  9. Yes I do.But we as fans aren't privy to what goes on in practice. We don't know if Senior"A" has had a bad attitude, has not been hustling or maybe is a problem in the locker room.We just don't know.We as fans make too many quick decisions/judgements regarding coaching decisions.Let each coach decide on his own what is best for his team.
  10. It should be the decision of the coach. If he chooses to start 5 freshmen over 5 seniors that is his choice. No one should start just because he/she is a senior-Starting positions are earned.
  11. Some feel thats the problem-He has forgotten a lot of basketball.
  12. With the reality of playing Morgan next week at Morgan in the districts this may be the last chance for West to make some noise. However with the way Ashland is playing right now you have to take Ashland.
  13. Appreciate the compliment Nets. When I mentioned that Fairview was one of only two 20 win teams in the region I obviously neglected to mention Morgan. They are playing the best ball in the region right now and will be very difficult to beat.
  14. I will list the viable candidates from each team(in alphabetical order) that I believe should be considered beginning with the 64th district: Ashland Blazer-1)Drew McDavid-Leading scorer, rebounder and FG% leader for Ashland.Without him they would be "in a world of hurt.") Matt Thomas-second leading scorer main ball handler for Ashland.Has not shot a great FG% but as played out of position.Very good defensive player. Boyd County-1)Antonio Owens-Leading scorer in the region ,second in the state.Jumps center and one of the leading rebounders for Boyd.Does it all.One of two legitimate POY candidates in the region. Fairview-1) Alex Barker-"sparkplug" for one of only two teams in the region with 20 wins.Handles the ball 80-90% of the time for the Eagles.Leads in the area in assists and 3 pt. shooting.Applies good def. pressure.2)Cody Black-Only player in the region avg. a double/double.Blocks shots, strong inside and leads th area in Free throw attempts. 3)Justin Hutchinson-Has really played strong lately.Solid Def. player who often guards the opposing teams best perimeter off. player. Rose Hill-1)Dakota Euton-Great numbers.Best outside shooting big man in the region.Rebounds well. Not afraid to take clutch shots.2)Chad Jackson-Makes RH go.Good defender and ball handler. 63rd district- Greenup Co.-No one that could be considered all region material. Not a slight but rather a comliment.GC has a very solid core of 7 players capable of beating anyone in the region. Lewis Co.- No candidates this year but look for Lewis to be tough next year and in the district this year. Raceland-1)Thomas Tolliver- one of the quickest if not the quickest player in the region.Makes the Raceland offense click.Very unselfish. Russell-1)Jon Vanhoose-along with Owens should be considered for POY in the region.Has carried the Devils at times this year.Unlimited range.Leading scorer and rebounder for the Devils. 62nd District East Carter- Very much like Greenup Co.No outstanding individuals.Testament to Coach Baker. The Raiders are very undersized.Look for Drew Johnson to make some noise next year. Elliott Co. 1)Ethan Faulkner-Great Ball handler and good outside shooter.Plays with a great deal of savvy.2)Evan Faulkner-Plays a lot like his brother.has emerged enough however to be known for his "game"3)Jon Ferguson-absolute matchup nightmare.Jumps out of the gym.Too strong for most guards and too quick for most forwards.Leads the Lions in scoring.4)Ron Weddington-very strong. He like Ferguson is a difficult matchup.handles the ball a great deal.Very good passer. Morgan Co.-1)Kaitlin Haney-Big bruiser with a nice outside touch.Has added a great deal to the Cougars and helps to relief pressure off McCowan.2)Blake McCowan-may be the smartest player in the region.Limited athletically but gets the job done.Leads in the area on FG%.Knows how to win.3)Nathanial Peyton-is a very underrated player. Not fantastic at any one skill just very good in everything. West Carter-1)Casey Jones.Great shooter.Seems like he has unshakeable confidence.has had some fantastic games.Who can forget the Bryen Station AIT game. 61st District Bath Co.-No one individual stands out.I know the Wildcats have only one senior and have an outstanding freshman in Zach Metz. Fleming Co.-Again no one stands out.I do know that Jordan Fritz is an outstanding athlete. Menifee Co.-1)Cody Howard-This guy is a beast.Very strong with a soft touch.More people would be aware of him if their stats were in the paper every Friday. Rowan Co. 1)Matt Daniel-Tremendous shooter with unlimited range.Has not shot a great % this year but this is due in some part to the makeup of the team.He has had to create much more than last year.He is also a good ballhandler and his long arms create havoc on defense. So there you have it.IMO team success should influence the picks.I think it would be tough to justify more than one pick from a sub-500 team(In region play). What needs to be remembered though is that an all region team is not picked but an all area one is.That means teams like Menifee,Bath and Fleming won't be considered while Paintsville and Lawrence will be.
  15. Rose Hill 19 17 12 6-4 58 St Joe 13 13 16 12-6 60 Rose Hill(13-9) Jackson 12,Bair 6,Chinn 10,Arthur 2,Euton 28 St. Joe (8-11) Harvey 5,Basedow 12,Lewis 10,Crum 6,Addis10,Swarts11,Staton 6. St. Joe ended a 10 game losing streak. This is the same ST. Joe team that Fairview beat last week 89-56(at ST. Joe).RH is not the same team away from the "Stew".By not hosting the district they are really going to have a hard time with Ashland.
  16. Of course Line scores mean something. What exactly was the score at the end of the third quarter?I readily admit that I don't think NCC is 50 points better than Bellevue but I hardly think that Bellevue is as good as NCC.So I guess we will just have to agree to disagree.
  17. Is the game against KCC still on for tonight?
  18. I don't believe shooterx3 ever promised a tattoo if Russell lost. But if he did he would definitely deliver. He is a man of his word. And if you notice win or lose he is always here to post immediately unlike some others.
  19. Russell attempted 41 shots of which 25 were threes. They shot only 3 free throws and they were AT HOME.Am I the only one that sees a correlation?
  20. Agreed. But a 50 point loss is just what it is-a humilation.BTW check out the line score at the end of the 3rd quarter from the NCC/Bellevue game.I would hardly call that" beating the tar out" out of someone.
  21. True on both counts. However Maynard needs to have more attempts in both areas in order to really prove himself.Next year he should get his chance.
