  1. The Cincinnati Enquirer high school columnist thinks Jones is a player. http://frontier.cincinnati.com/blogs/preps/ I spent this afternoon watching the heavily-favored Beechwood baseball team survive a scare from upstart Bellevue. I didn't cover the game, but I went to check out Bellevue sophomore shortstop Hunter Jones (right). I'm working on a feature for a rainy day, literally. (We stash away stories for days when the local schedule is wiped away due to inclement weather.) Anyway, the Jones kid's been putting up big-time numbers -- .456 batting average, six home runs, 25 RBI, 25 stolen bases, 28 runs -- but sometimes players at smaller schools can put up big-time numbers against small-time competition. Nothing against the schedules NKAC Division III teams play, but they usually aren't murders' row. Anyway, Jones doesn't look small-time. He's about 6-2, 185 and he looks like a ballplayer. His pedigree is definitely big-time. (His father Tracy Jones played six years in the Major Leagues and his grandfather Jim Jones played in the Red Sox organization.) The diving stop he made on a line drive behind second base didn't look small-time, neither did the throw to first to double-off a runner. The double he hit off the metal siding at the top of the Beechwood gym was pretty impressive. So was the speed he showed on the base paths. Jones, who recently transferred in from Kings, played with Midland in the summer. If he stays at Bellevue, I wouldn't be surprised if he sets every offensive school record on the books. "He's got all the tools," said Bellevue coach Rob Sanders. "ALL of 'em," one of his assistants echoed. I'll buy it. Big-time, small-time, big school, small school, the kid can play. Also, I was pretty impressed with the Bellevue team as a whole. The Tigers came back to take a 6-5 lead in the sixth inning, only to lose 7-6 on Beechwood's two seventh-inning runs. Gutsy effort. The Tigers are a legit threat to win the 36th District. Jones is a big part of it. Neat little story. Read all about it ... next time it rains.
  2. Were all of the runs earned? I saw that the Juggs had 4 errors.
  3. UNC has to hate getting beat in the recruiting game by Berea. "You win some, you lose some," Roy Williams stated.
  4. CovCath's fight song is an original... I don't know how to go about finding it...audio, that is.
  5. I agree. I feel like they should move it to the evening because of Keeneland. Allow people to come in town for Keeneland during the day and then catch some football at night, much like regular season games in October.
  6. I would assume that if the Reds dumped Arroyo, Dunn, and Griffey that the $25M to $30M would get put to good use. Therefore, I would say until he proves he can't play short that Keppinger plays there, Gonzo is a utility infielder and E-5 stays at 3rd. Freel cannot be the leadoff hitter. He's proven that.
  7. My point was a simple one. The Minister has had a positive impact on his community .
  8. You're confusing the issue. Minister Farrakhan has caused many men in the black community to be responsible men, fathers, and husbands. For all of you old guys on here that complain directly or indirectly about black men and black women being on welfare, I would think you would give a man credit for trying to change that. I'm not saying he should be followed. I'll leave that up to those in his community. I am saying that while you can question is mind and disagree with his statements, he has a positive effect on the community he serves.
  9. Friday's game was rained out/postponed. Double header today (Saturday) starting at 1. Big series for the Bat Cats.
  10. Some would argue that Minister Farrakhan has done much more good for the black community than harm.
  11. OK. I'm a young voter. What exactly should I take from this 2 part interview I just watched? I don't think I heard anything new and I don't think brought up anything new.
  12. What was the "Factor Exclusive" that was splashed on the screen?
  13. Unnecessary. Back to the original topic. I've never liked Lofton just because of the constant harping the media does on the whole "not recruited to UK" thing. However, after reading this, it's easy to put little issues like that aside and take a bigger look at things. Congrats, CLo. I can't imagine what that was/is like.
  14. Griffey for a young lefty starter? Maybe I haven't followed MLB long enough but I don't think there is any chance of that happening.
  15. Wouldn't you think that the man responsible for building this team would be held responsible for bringing in a number of players who had legal problems before they got here and have continued to have them?
  16. I'm guessing he's about 12 now and was in the news a few years ago when the Washington Post had this (sad) story. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/07/03/AR2006070300718.html
  17. This kid in this article was once the "next big deal" when he appeared in Sports Illustrated as a middle-school player. He quit growing and is now no longer the "next big deal." Things change. http://hsi.pe.com/pages/centerpiece/stories/walker.html
  18. Gametime - are the boards like Rivals covering Justin Jenifer?
