Close but no cigar.......Warren H Cooper. Below are comments listed from his bio when he was inducted into the Dawahares/KHSAA Sports Hall of Fame in 1990. Warren Harding Cooper - Cooper is unique in Kentucky basketball history…He played on a state championship team as he was the star of Brooksville's 1939 team, coached a team in the State Tournament with Dilce Combs High School 1954, and officiated in four State Tournaments during his 36 years as a referee…He has never lost his love for the game as he attends both boys' and girls' tournaments each year…As a player, the "Blond Bomber" earned All-Tournament honors in 1939 and 1940. Pretty neat accomplishment IMO.......He is still attending games all over the region.

I am not 100% certain but I believe he did officiate in the girls tournament atleast once. His coaching tenure was on the boys side.

I have a nice trivia question for you.........Can you name the person who has played, coached AND officiated in the state tournament? Yes this is a local person...........

I believe the district realignment was based somewhat on geography. What other "powerful" team makes geographic sense to include in the 61st district? Do you think the KHSAA is responsible for the coaching carousel at Menifee and Bath? Maybe with some stability in those positions they will be able to build a program that competes on a more regular basis. There has been plenty of talent at both schools in the past few years. As for Fleming, they were competitive on a regular basis prior to joining the 16th and I believe they will continue to be as a member of the 61st district. Paranoia.....it'll destroy ya.........

All new tee boxes, lots of tree removal/clean up and some bunker work. All changes for the better.

A nice 9 hole layout can be found at Carter Caves State Park. Not real long but tight. Fun to play and is kept in good shape most of the time. Gets a bit dry and hard in mid summer..........Beautiful place in the fall.

I have played Bellefonte in the past year. Very recently as a matter of fact. I also know the new pro personally and think he has done a fine job with the changes/upgrades. Bellefonte is, as you said, a beautiful and challenging course. In fact, it can be set up to play VERY difficult. I am not trying to diminish the quality of the course in any way, I just believe the others mentioned, such as Valhalla, are in a totally different league. Take outside factors such as hotel accomodations and accessibilty out of consideration and tell me if you can ever imagine Bellefonte hosting a PGA event let alone a Ryder Cup. Just my opinion, but not in the same league.............

Are you kidding me? It is a "nice" course but it would be blasphemous to mention this course in the same breath as Valhalla and the others previously mentioned. I have played Valhalla a few times and have to say it is always a pleasant experience. Most fun ever was a 39 on the front after a triple bogey at one. Struggled on the back but finished the day with a respectable 82.

I have been informed that one of my previous posts in the Girls forum was in violation of BGP rules and therefore deleted. While I respectfully disagree with the moderators decision I want to apologize to anyone who may have been upset by my comments. I have no alegiance to any school but am a big fan of high school sports in general with a special affection for hoops. Having officiated mulitple sports in the past on different levels of play I will always be in support of the official. I am too easily drawn into debates about officiating and now realize it is not worth it to respond. From here forward I will resign myself to a "read only" status and no longer be posting

Another expert on court position? Since you already have this aspect of the game down you should take GoRadios advice and sign up. Just because one official is closer to the play than another does not mean it is his responsibilty to make a call on that play. I can think of many examples where the exact opposite is true. By the way......nice cotton shirts now days...........

Bogey you and Himmelfarb forget that you do not set the standard for officials and therefore are in no position to deem who is incompetent and who is not. Just because you watch a lot of basketball does not make you an authority on the game. I venture to say that most folks have no idea what it takes to become an offcial as far as the training and time spent by these guys. The better officials spend a tremendous amount of time and money to attend camps just to make themselves better. Why? Simply because they love what they do. Too many quit well before they should simply because the grief they get from people who THINK they know the rules better than them.

Quite honestly I think you tend to rehash this more than others and certainly more than necessary. If you truly believe that you owe no further explanations then so be it. From what I saw of Boone County Vanhoose will appear to be "All World" against them. They were not very impressive.

No problem Bandit......you may want to change your password........I dont think this will be a nail biter or a blowout. Havent seen either team in person but from info gathered on BGP, Elliott should handle East fairly easy.

The post must have been deleted............Bandit29 commented that Elliott would win by 27 then realized he may have been a bit over confident and changed his opinion to say that the game would be too close to call. Wonder what made him change his mind?

Not trying to jump the gun on Ghost but IMO a good official will hold his/her whistle for a sec on the first play you described. If the ballhandler can make the move around and score then play on......if the defender truly hinders their progress and prevents the open score then you probably should have a whistle. On your second question I think maybe both you and the official mentioned are a bit confused on a TEAM control foul. Dont mistake this for a PLAYER control foul. When a player commits a foul while his TEAM is in control of the ball the defensive team is awarded a throw in but NO SHOTS. It is important to keep in mind there is NO TEAM CONTROL during a jump ball, a throw in or on a try for goal. In your example it sounds like there would not have been team control (ball loose after free throw shot) so any foul commited should have been awarded shots if in the bonus situation.

If you re read my post I said the player did not have control when he fell, therefore no walk could be called. I said he fell on top of the ball thereby gaining control. I am only going by what I was told but if it happened as explained, no walk should have been called and a timeout could have been given when control was gained on the ground.

[i think most people don't understand how much Euton and Jackson have changed since last season. Big baskets from Tony Aurthur tonight when Morgan made a run. I have to agree with this comment. Not only have they changed a bit physically but they appeared to be a bit more mature on the court. I guess mature is not the best way to describe it........maybe more saavy....which does come with experience. Gonna be fun to watch for a few seasons.

I was impressed with both school...HOWEVER, do officials simply not call "walks" anymore? In my opinion both teams got away with multiple travels???? Spoke to a friend of mine that was at this game. He commented that a few plays looked funny and the crowd wanted a few walk calls. As he and I discussed, it isnt a walk just because it "looks funny". One play he mentioned was a player was basically trapped and was in danger of having the ball stolen, he fell on top of the ball between the two defenders and his coach called a time out. He pointed out that the player did NOT have control of the ball when he fell. I am sure everyone in the gym wanted a walk. Well atleast half the gym. Keep in mind, if a player does not have control of the ball he/she cannot walk.
