  1. Such a sad loss. Nice athlete. Prayers to all the family and the community of Evarts. God speed.
  2. Matt Daniels is one player I have been impressed with this summer. He will have the chance to push Rowan to the top of the 16th. The big kid inside has improves and Martin is an excellant leader out front. Look for Rowan to be a threat to Russell by the end of the season.
  3. I have wondered the same things concerning the basketball realignment. Clay was not wise in staying in the 13th. I think they would have liked the 14th much more. Only time will tell. If Laurel builds a third high school in the future how will that shift things around?
  4. Lewis is a great guy and a solid basketball coach. Hazard will not miss a beat with him at the helm. :thumb:
  5. I agree. Sometimes I think we sell our mountain kids short based on their size. I recall Dicky Beal, Richie Farmer, Deron Ferldhaus, John Phelprey, Jeff Brassow,Phil Cox, Chris Loften......all being referred to as undersized. Seems like most of them made the most and had nice careers. You can not measure heart and desire, throw in a little of ability and you have the right combination for success. I wish all these kids the best. I just hate to see posters argue if someone is 5'9 or 5'11....does it really matter?
  6. IF you can play does size really matter? Obvisously it helps, but I have seen some nice 6 foot posts. At the high school level.
  7. Corbin has three outstanding freshman players this season. All three will see some varsity time in my opinion. Aaron Manns 6'3 240 is a beast around the basket. A true post who likes it down there. Madison Johnson 6'3 160. Great shooter and very long armed. Issac Wilson 5'7 140 point guard excellent handles and nice mid range jump shot. All three of these kids will contribute this season for the Hounds. The kid from Knox Central Miller is a very nice player as well. He can play any position on the floor and has nice size at about 6'5. The younger Whitaker Kid at Bell is also one to monitor. He will start at the point for the Bobcats. He will be a great player in the future. The Cards of South Laurel have a nice player in the Gilbert kid who transferred from North. He has a nice game overall and is very skilled. I am sure there are some more upcoming players in the 13th.
  8. Watts is a really nice player. One of the best freshman in the state. I would say he is 6'0 with a nice shooting touch, good handles, and athletic enough to get to the rim. He will a very exciting player to monitor the next four years. In order for him to get some Mr. Basketball status he will have to will his team to the state tournament and the coaching staff will have to allow him to play some AAU ball with some of the traveling teams throughout the summer. It would also benefit him to play the best competition in the area. The last couple of seasons McCreary's schedule has not been that strong.
  9. Will Christopher even be in uniform for the Redhounds. I have heard some strong messages saying he will not be ruled eligible and will not be playing for the Hounds this season?
  10. Hounds in a barnburner....Corbin 13 Rockcastle 12.....Cashen connects with Madon late for the Hounds to take the win..
  11. Look for Spurlock to be the choice if he desires to move and take the reigns at BIG CLAY.
  12. Jackson County had a strong showing at the AAU varsity tournament. I would hate to see Coach Hays lose another player. If he could have kept Elliott, McGowen, etc over the years then he would have been in the thick of things. Jackson looks like a team that will be the favorite for their district and probably a top five in the region next season. I can not see why any of their players would want to leave the program as it seems more stable than Clay County right now.
  13. Is this true or a wild tale? I can not believe Grey would walk away then come back after half the summer season is over. What are the opinions of the Clay County faithful? Will they accept this kinda thing.
  14. Did Scott win the the JV as well? I figured after they beat Corbin they would take both titles.
  15. AAU has lost alot of luster in the last couple of years. I think you will see more and more teams heading to the Bluegrass Championship next season. It is almost the Scott County invitiational now..
  16. Both have solid teams. I would suspect that any team with some big players down on the blocks will give these teams fits. A lot of teams seem to be taking the Bluegrass Championship in this week instead of the KBA event. I have heard alot of talk about some protesting the officating as the reason behind this move. Good luck to both Hazard and JBS, represent the mountians tomorrow.
  17. I was confused I thought you once mentioned you had a child that would be a Williamsburg Yellow Jacket, that led me to believe they were your team. Give Knox Central some time, I am sure Coach Elam will give us all something to talk about soon enough .....:thumb: if history repeats itself.
  18. Is Coach Flenor moving into an administrative position?
  19. True. Makes you wonder if he is not a victim of the over bearing parent who thinks the kid is the next Michael Jordan. I hope he finds peace at Whitley County. Lord knows he is due some .
  20. I probably do know more about the powers to be at Whitley than most. Apex are you a Whitley, Wburg , or Knox fan? You seem to be interested in alot of Whitley things to be a Knox Co boy? I know you were interested in the Wburg basketball hire as well. Guess you are like myself and have diverse tastes and interests. :scared:
  21. Perhaps not his assistants but one from somewhere else throughout the state. Nice area, good region and some talent and tradition at Bourbon.
  22. Last season most of the Whiitley people were insisting that they were just young and needed more time to get better and mature. Now they are willing to throw them away for some Corbin rejects. Guess they will never get their chances to prove people wrong. Maybe you are correct the kids that represented Whitley last season may not be good enough, but they have earned some respect in my book. I have been on teams that were not so successful and feel like it made me a better person. If transfers are the anwser to equation then go at it full force. I for one think the Native Whitley Kids are good enough to pull the Colonels back to competitiveness. But what do I know.
  23. Well I am glad that Christopher found a place that he can play since he was not needed at Bell or he could have sit on the sidelines at Whitley behind their talented returning players. At least he has a chance to further his career and be happy. Best of luck, sounds to me like Coach Greer has caused alot of controversy at Bell Co in more than one sport.
  24. Yes both will be sophomores. Craig's dad is about 6'6 so he may get bigger, he may have some room for the noggen to grow. Bargo's dad is about 6'7 and was a wrestler and played some semi pro baseball. Owned the Colleseum club in Bville, and is now a chiropractor. Bargo is about 6'3 and Craig is about 6'2 unless they have hit a massive growth spurt. Sounds like coach Deaton is bringing new players in right and left. Where does that leave the returning players that took the lickings last year.
  25. Is Christopher carrying some baggage that most of us are not aware of? He seems like a first class kid and will be an asset wherever he lands next season.
