Good choice. He knows what he's getting into. God Luck coach.

Lewis is a great guy and a solid basketball coach. Hazard will not miss a beat with him at the helm. :thumb:

Lew is truley one of the great minds in basketball!!! Took Hazard to All A state, State Tourney and also a team in Tennesse to State there. Was great at Franklin Co and is a really great guy. Was one of harlans best. Good luck to him. He is really a great guy and fits in well at hazard. I think Hazard went from 3 in region to back up to #1 with this hire

Will this keep the players in Hazard?

No one is leaving. The Hazard Boys will be Bulldogs this season.

Good to see him get the job. I'm surprised he never wound up being the head man up at Cumberland.

Yeah, the right people like Coach Morris in Hazard. So maybe hazard will be happy now but they'll never find another coach to do what Coach Spurlock did in 4 years.

Besides the All "A", which was a great accomplishment, what did Coach Spurlock do? He had the best team 3 years in a row by far and got out coached in the district tourney all 3 times. Yes they went to state this year, but i would have to say it was more because of Hicks, Campbell, and that Leslie was upset by Jackson City and JBS was missing their big man! Don't get me wrong, I like Spurlock as a person, I just can't see everyone missing him as Coach! It was time for a change in Hazard, maybe now everyone can just get along and not worry about the silly stuff!

Didnt he lead Hazard to the Sweet 16 once also.

By far? Didn't Perry Central have some pretty good teams in that time, too?

I will have to agree with westsider, Perry did have some pretty good teams and sticking up for Coach Spurlock, I would say that during his first season Perry had the much better team. The other two years Hazard was probably better but that is how the ball bounces sometimes. I am glad, Master of the Hardwood, that you think the All A was a great accomplishment but what about the winning percentage and the WYMT tournaments and other invitationals he won plus the excitement he helped to bring back to Hazard basketball? Do these things not count? And the last I saw, most teams that win a region have some pretty good players. Anyways, maybe it was time for Spurlock to move on and I am sure he will work just has hard at Clay as he did at Hazard and hopefully have a lot of the same success he had at Hazard. I am sure Hazard will continue in its winning ways and Coach Morris will do a good job there as well. By the way, what silly stuff are you referring too. Just curious.
