  1. Congrats to Coach Biggs and the hard-working Tomcats. Good luck against the Eagles. And good luck to the Kittens tomorrow night in the championship.
  2. Von Perry's last game. A real class act all the way. Good luck !!
  3. West Carter on Tuesday East Carter on Wednesday Russell on Friday
  4. Congrats to Smith, McDavid, Wilcox, Strait and Farrow on a good gut-it-out win over an improved Lady Devil group.
  5. Rowan at East Carter tomorrow night. Could be a good one.
  6. Very good game. Rowan up 9 at half, up by 11 in the third. Ashland comes back and takes lead near the end of the third. Connor goes to bench with foul trouble and Rowan goes on big run. Hard fought game, both teams played extremely hard. Great atmosphere at the old Alumni Gym. Nearly 60 FTs shot ( Rowan 38, Ashland 21). Both teams should be proud of their efforts.
  7. Will Skaggs set a new record for assists in one game. The previous record was 17, by Sean Conley. Skaggs had 19 assists tonight.
  8. I saw both games this season. As Graybeard wrote, these are two distinctly different teams, although they have two things in common. Both teams are extremely well coached, and both teams play very solid defense. I don't see how anyone can look at Highlands, and have anything but the utmost respect. Fast at all positions (including the offensive line), as much starting talent as any coach could ask for, and excellent depth which allows them to sub as needed. They truly have one of the top three or four coaching staffs in the state. Their offensive scheme does an excellent job of exploiting their team speed to the fullest, and their wideouts and linemen all block their tails off. If the defense plays zone coverage, the line gives them enough time to run their receivers into the seams, and the QB rarely misses. He can throw it deep enough to stretch the defense, and he can float the touch passes over the second level when needed. Johnson Central is a running machine. They pass only enough to keep a defense honest, and sometimes not even then. Their offensive line does an excellent job of opening holes at the point of attack, and their receivers do a great job of downfield blocking, which turns six or seven yard gains into much longer runs. Again, Graybeard covered the fact that Matney will always have a trick play or two up his sleeve, but normally, they don't really need them. This game, however, may well come down to who can use the unexpected play to create a little breathing room. A reverse, a fake punt, or a halfback sweep stopping to throw it over the defense could be the difference. The kicking game may well be the decider in this one. JC playing at home is a big advantage, but Highlands has the experience of playing big games, and the tradition is definitively on their sideline. I am honestly considering making the drive to Johnsonville, just to watch this baby. The team that is on the short end of the scoreboard will proabably be the strongest team in the state that gets eliminated on Friday. I won't pick a winner, but I'll be on the bandwagon for whichever team advances. I'll be pulling for Raceland on Friday, and I hope that they play in Papa John's. That way, I'll get to root for two excellent teams.
  9. Congrats to the Cats. Great win. Great gameplan. Now, lets pull the upset next week.
  10. Rowan Co. lost a lot to graduation and Ashland lost the 16th Region POY. Both will be in the upper tier along with East, Elliott Co. and Raceland as well as a sleeper team or two that could surprise i.e. Lewis Co. or a Morgan Co. Should be a great year in the 16th for girls basketball.
  11. Can't believe this ended up being a borderline landslide.
  12. 52% to 46% is borderline landslide, especially when you look at the electoral vote.
  13. Hush's pick was the biggest play of the season for Ashland.
  14. One of the best defensive performances I've seen in quite a while. Great win for the Tomcats. Good luck to both teams the rest of the way.
  15. Just watched the interview. It was almost a total implosion. If she studies-up thus week and learns to relax, she may be o.k. for this Thursday. If not, it will be another bump in the polls for Obama-Biden.
  16. Very good point. Do they have replacements for Barr and Spurlock?
  17. She will possibly be ranked the number one player in the 16th region in preseason.
  18. Great game to watch. Both teams fought extremely hard. Raceland has some very talented palyers. Ashland really showed grit in their comeback and will improve as the season goes along.
