Ballard at Elliott County
Tough call. Should be a good game. Will it be broadcast? I think on a neutral court I'd pick Ballard, but being at Elliott makes the choice a bit tougher. I'll say Elliott is hitting and they win by 10, but the game will be closer than that with Elliott hitting free throws down the stretch to win.

First of all, not sure if you are referring to me, but I am hardly a "Holmes fan". Anyways, yes, every team should have a "mulligan". I think for discussion's sake on a site like this, we should focus more on matchups then past record. Of course it factors in but sometimes a team has another's number or a team has an off night. Ryle convincingly beat Conner who convincingly beat Highlands who convincingly beat Boone who just beat Holmes. What's it mean? Nothing. It's all about the matchups.

I'm just trying to play the role of the typical NKY fan. Someone has to do it......nah, I was just joking around. Here are my thoughts.... Personally, I think a few things. First of all, every team has an off night- EC or Holmes. Secondly, Boone and SV were underrated. Thirdly, I don't know about SV, but I do find Boone to be inconsistent. Lastly, it is always best to look at the matchups between individual teams. Now what that means in terms of rankings, who knows? Do you rank teams based on W's and L's? It is objective but sometimes off. Do we rank of matchups? Personally, I feel like on a website like this, we should rank based on who we think would win each individual game. Some of us are bound to be wrong, but it doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme of things. Likewise, W's and L's don't matter- that is why they play the games! Now how that is relevant to the whole discussion......who knows

Has Elliott County v Holmes become the state's most fierce rivalry?

No I was not at this game. As you'll notice in my post, I did say "maybe you have to be there to take it in." It did look very full. Just when I think "atmosphere", I think more than just a large crowd and noise- Ballard, Mason Co., etc. have experienced that at Rupp. I think student sections, creativity, etc. It is worth noting that I said that I thought Elliott is a top 10 school even before this game. I really didn't intend to criticize Elliott. They are a fine team who can knock down open shots. I haven't seen much but I think T. Knipp should get the ball everytime down the floor. I don't know if I think they match up with Holmes or SC well, but we'll see!

FWIW, I thought Elliott was a top 10 team in the state, I did before this game, and I still do.

Eta is going to be ticked off that you all are happy that Holmes lost. Nice win for Boone.

I hope I don't come off as a "hater", but, from watching the 2nd half: 1. Neither team impressed me, at all. I have a hard time believing either could compete with Holmes or Scott County. Individually, T. Knipp and Pawsat both looked good. I do admit that Elliott can hit some shots. 2. From the other thread, people said Ballard will be in an atmosphere that they have never experienced. Was the experience Sandy Hook special tonight? Maybe you have to be there to take it in, but from what I saw it was like a CovCath game against an average opponent (any year but this one ) 3. I know it is not Elliott's style, and it turned out more than fine for them, but it would be smart for EC to slow it down a bit when up 15 in the last few minutes. They would get up 15 and then try to run and turn it over or miss a shot and let MC back in the game

CovCath Baseball 2009 (Third Time's the Charm)
All I said is that Louisville had him ranked as their top catcher. I guess technically that could mean that he was the top one they are recruiting, but I've always took is at the top catcher in their class (in his opinion)

I'm just relaying what was said by Louisville's baseball coach, to whom I give greater authority on high school players across the country then any of us.

CovCath Baseball 2009 (Third Time's the Charm)
 I was trying to say that a lot of teams (Louisville is the one that I know for sure) had him rated as the number 1 catcher in the country in his class.

CovCath Baseball 2009 (Third Time's the Charm)
Yeah I was a bit out of it earlier. The point that I was trying to get across is that Luke is one of the best hitters in the state, and he has 3 other very, very good hitters in the lineup with him. Since I don't see many players of Luke's caliber, I can reasonably assume that no one else has 4 hitters that good (because most teams don't have a player as good as Luke). If there is, then tell me. I'm no expert on teams around the entire state.

CovCath Baseball 2009 (Third Time's the Charm)
You are right that I am not familiar enough with other teams. But I have watched these 4 play for 2 years. I hardly know very many other players in the state that were ranked number 1 at their position by major D-1 universities. What other team can put up 4 hitters that good?

Who will be the all state players and who will be Mr. Basketball?
Isn't Mr. Basketball reserved for players going to UK? That's what this article says. ....the award was created in 1956, first given to Kentucky high school basketball legend "King" Kelly Coleman. Contrary to public belief, the award is not given to the state's best player, but instead given to the state's best player who is moving on the play for the Wildcats. Pretty interesting read.

CovCath Baseball 2009 (Third Time's the Charm)
That has to be the best 4-man offensive combo in the state.

CovCath Baseball 2009 (Third Time's the Charm)
To be honest, I'm surprised at a lot of the concerns above. I think this might be the best CovCath baseball team since the team that had the most wins in the country. They should win state. And I don't think that I am being overly optimistic.
