too many times kids feel that life and death revolve around winning and losing. Don't get me wrong; I like that aggressive basketball and enjoy winning as much as anyone. But what lesson are we teaching our kids if winning is everything and when one child/team gets humilated? I don't know the answer. I've never coached anyone but my own children. There has to be a fine line there somewhere.

Seems that the pic of Ashland's coach would have fit better somewhere within the preview. It is a shame that the area senior boys weren't the focus since it is a "highschool" preview. The Independent may have removed "Ashland" from its name years ago, but it sure didn't remove the prejudice from its sports pages.

Raceland boys played hard and held on to the end. The big crowd and the student pep club kept the spirit up. Good job Rams!

Raceland had a great season this year. This team goes back to JFL and have remained dedicated from that time forward. They definitely are a "Band of Brothers" and together they broke school records. The community is very proud of them and several of the seniors will continue their careers at the collegiate level. Way to go Rams!

I want to give kudos to the Raceland Ram Pep Club. Throughout the season, they have kept the halls at school decorated beyond belief. Each week the process started all over for whatever opponent the Rams were facing. They helped organize pep rallies and also decorated the field, bleachers and fences. The football players stopped some of them last night and thanked them saying the pep club didn't realize how much that meant to them. I felt those boys showed real class, being gracious and thoughtful enough to thank those girls and boys that backed them every minute of every game and every week throughout their great season. As a parent of Ram athletes, I want to thank the football program for a great season. You gave us a great game each week. We love you guys. IT'S A GREAT DAY TO BE A RAM!
