Case and May were the two kids from Belfry named to the all tournament team. Oh, and Tim Honaker was given the John Bill Trivette Award for MVP/MOP of the tournament.

Pikeville beats Belfry tonight in the finals of the Pikeville Invitational Tournament to take home the championship. The Panthers are becoming a very solid team and they showed it tonight taking down a very physical and previously undefeated Belfry team. Pikeville got strong performances from several players tonight. Tim Honaker and Matt Clevenger were named to the All-Tournament team along with two of Belfry's players and one kid from Wolfe County (sorry, I can't remember the names). Pikeville improves to 3-1 on the year with their next game coming on Dec. 28 against Menifee County. Belfry falls to 4-1 and will play Ashland Blazer on Dec. 20. Good, hard fought game by both teams, it was fun to watch.

I'm coming back into town to watch this game, so I really hope the Panthers play well. You can always count on Belfry to be a very very physical team, and to have any shot at winning this game Pikeville must match Belfry's level of physicality. This game is always won and lost in the trenches, and this year will be no exception. I look for Pikeville to break the recent trend and match Belfry's physicality, the biggest trick will be for Pikeville's coaches to match Coach Haywood at halftime. In my mind, Coach Haywood and the rest of his staff set themselves apart with their ability to make these adjustments. And if Pikeville is going to win they are going to have to be ready for this. That said, I think Pikeville's coaches will be able to adjust, and the team will be ready for this game. I look for Pikeville to come out on top in a close, hard fought game. I think the offense would work, but probably at a higher level maybe. Pikeville right now does not have the right personnel to run Coach Jacksons offense as effectively as it could be run. And at a small school like Pikeville you are never really going to have a whole lot of players to pick from. Your talent pool is pretty much set, and isn't going to change a whole lot. I would think changing around the offense to better suit the players already out there would be a good idea. This way you can get the playmakers the ball often. Another thing I noticed is the tremendous amount of pulling and moving around the offensive line for Pikeville does. Against teams that aren't very good, you can get away with doing that. But against teams that have been well taught, all that pulling and moving around can become detrimental to an offense. With all the movement in the backfield from moving lineman and shifting running backs, it's almost like it takes a minor miracle to execute the play properly. I think this offense has potential to work, but I tend to prefer a simpler approach.

From what I heard Pikeville was worn out before the game started. The ride to Corbin was in a charter bus, but the air conditioning was not working the whole way. Once they got there they were basically outside in the heat until the game started. This is no excuse for playing badly, but it certainly couldn't have helped. I agree with MTNFAN, someone needs to step up and lead this team on the field. John Michael Mayo was the leader of this team, and to have any sort of success someone is going to need to take over that responsibility.

Anyone have any updates on the score of this game? I think it was supposed to start at around 5:30 down in Corbin.

John Michael definitely had a concussion last night. They kept him over night at Pikeville Medical Center and last I heard he was feeling better. The problem for the Panthers is that this is his third concussion in a year, so his football future is up in the air at this point. This is really sad to hear because of the promise he had as a player, with letters coming in from a few D1 schools showing serious interest. But at this point, football is secondary. My prayers are with John that he'll have a full recovery.

That's definitely good news.

When Pikeville scrimmaged Breathitt County, Lexington Christian, and Mason County last week they were without many lineman and a few skill players. 3 of the starting 4 defensive lineman including the two senior leaders Casey Rowe and Brad Bryant were not participating in the scrimmage. There were a couple of other guys who were beat up and didn't play in the scrimmage either. As far as results for the scrimmage. They got outplayed by Breathitt, but played even with or better than Lexington Christian and Mason County. The biggest thing to happen at the scrimmage was starting offensive tackle Jordan Tibbs going down at the very end of the scrimmage with a knee injury. No word for sure on how long he's going to be out, but I'm hearing it will probably be a minimum of a couple months.

I played from 2000-2004 under Coach MacNamee, and my brother plays now for Coach Jackson. Believe me, their workout routine is much more than we ever did. I believe Coach Copley is the one in charge of their workouts, lifting, conditioning, etc. And if you judge a team by their workout regiment, then Pikeville is light years ahead of where they were a few years ago. These kids have hit the weight room hard, and have worked their tails off in the offseason, and with the dedication and hard work this coaching staff has put in this should be a fantastic season. Coach Jackson and his staff have also set the stage to build a very successful program, and re-establish Pikeville as a serious state title contender.

Eric will be a junior this season, and though he's not playing QB anymore, he should see some time at tight end/wide reciever and as a safety on defense.

Listen, to even be considered for hosting a regional is a tremendous honor to the UK baseball team. You should all be congratulatory towards the team for their unbelievable successes. They are ranked #4 in the nation! And after their win tonight improve their record to 41-11! They are about to win the SEC Regular Season title for the first time ever, so let's cut them a break. I competed in the state track meet when I was in high school, and moving it to another venue shouldn't be a problem, especially one as nice as Dunbar. I know competing in the state meet is a big deal, but this thing that is happening with Kentucky baseball is unprecedented at this school. Let's embrace them and support them rather than put them down.

Pikeville's student section is no better, or worse, than any other school. I was happy to see so many students there and rooting for their team. Pikeville played very hard last night and deserved to get a W, that being said PC had Brad Lowe, and he played a heck of a ball game (27 points) and was the difference in the game. Pikeville's athleticism with Tim Honaker and Chip Davis gave Lowe some problems at times, but he's a good player and he's going to get his points either way. I was thoroughly impressed with Pikeville senior Tim Champlin last night. He plays so hard and is a phenomenal leader on the court for the Panthers. Champ scored for Pikeville when they needed a bucket, and was a constant force on the glass. But the two things that impress me the most with Tim are his defensive play and his ability to handle the ball anywhere on the court. Keep playing hard guys, and you will get better and create havoc in the district tournament.

Holmes played their starters the entire game I do believe, and to tell the truth they really didn't impress me. Maybe they just weren't playing hard or something, but to only beat a team like Pikeville by as much as they did wasn't impressive. Pikeville played them even through the first quarter, I think the score was 9-9, then the Panthers were only down by 10 at halftime. Still, congratulations to Holmes to winning the Pikeville Invitational Tournament. They were the best team, no question. Kudos to Pikeville for playing hard tonight. They were facing an uphill battle and they played hard the whole game.

I have a cousin who played on the Assumption team who went undefeated and won the state championship and national championship. I got to see them play once and they were amazing. Congratulations.

Class A Region 4 Distric 8 needs an adjustment as Fleming-Neon is no longer a school.

I think with the move the coaches made last Friday against Paintsville of John Michael Mayo to QB is just what the Panthers needed. Chase Huffman will still contribute on the offensive side of the ball as he is an explosive athlete. I think if Pikeville's offense can be consistent and productive, their defense is good enough to bring home the Region 4 crown. It won't be easy though.

I watched Olinger play Pikeville on Friday and he made them look silly. Not only is he a heck of an athelte who can make plays with his legs, but the kid has a nice arm. He also throws a very accurate and very catchable ball. Olinger doesn't have the best size in the world, but I think he is capable of playing D1.

Losing to Paintsville is unacceptable at Pikeville, you all have gotten us a couple of times, but only once in the past 20 years or so.

No doubt when you're talking about Pikeville it's Belfry. We always wanted to beat them more than anyone we played. In recent years the Pikeville / Prestonsburg game has become really big. With the district we play in, we expect to win every single game, but get the most satisfaction from beating Paintsville and Hazard.
