East Carter is the real deal this year. This one will be another "W" in the column for the Raiders.

I will repeat; that was some ugly football on the part of the Devils.

Coaches should show this team that film to remind them of that awful smackdown. It was some ugly football.

Congrats to the Devils!! I was out of town and had to miss the game. Sounds like this GC team was more competitive than in years past. I thought this would be the case. I also knew that they were going to throw the ball and that our secondary would be tested. Sounds like this is an area for Morris to concentrate on throughout the next few weeks. I would love to see GC beat some teams this year. Hopefully, their guys walked away form this game with some pride and confidence. :thumb:

WOW! I just got back into town from being out of state and missing all the action last Friday night. Big congrats go out to the Raceland Rams!!! After the last two seasons, I don't think Ashland will want to play the Rams on opening night; be it at Putnam or any other venue. Look for them to be in contact soon with Lewis County. :sssh:

I liken the Raceland/Ashland contract to the classic and stereotypical abusive relationship. Raceland (the battered girlfriend) is in denial of the abuse it receives at the hands of Ashland (the dominating and bullying boyfriend). Raceland sells itself short due to a lack of self-confidence from years and years of the abuse. Friends and neighbors who witness the abuse and try to interseed on the behalf of Raceland, are instead rebuffed as Raceland tries to make excuses for its abusive partner. Word-up Raceland, you don't have to take it anymore. It doesn't matter that you have a small facility, demand to play them on a home and away basis. Home field advantage would make a huge difference for you this year. Your kids deserve it, your fans deserve it and most of all Raceland - "the program" deserves it.

Yes, it's the Tony Franklin spread offense. They actually moved the ball quite well on Ironton.

Greeenup County has no siginificant injuries. (A kid broke a finger last week in the scrimmage w/Ironton, but he will play.) This is a huge game for GC because it sets the tempo for their whole season. Pressure is on Sammons, he needs to win this year if he wants to continue coaching at GC. Russell has to know that the Muskies will be throwing the ball on every play. It will be a good test for our secondary. You can bet Coach Morris will have a game plan that will seek to capitialize on a "pass only" offense. GC wil see a good dose of the classic wing-t just like last year and year before that and the year before that... Jones will run the bootleg early and often until somebody stops him. A big edge for Russell is the coaching staff. Years upon years of experience on the sidline vs GC and "not so much experience" and that's being kind. If Russelll jumps out early and puts two or three td's on the board, you can put a fork in GC because they will be done, very well done. (GC cheerleaders will be outstanding as always!) Not trying to stir anything. Just making an observation. (That's why I signed up for BGP.) I knew they had beaten Ashland previously, but I didn't know exactly how many times or what years. But my point remains that that game is normally a "W" in the column for Ashland. It's a tune-up game. It's a Class 5A school vs a Class 1A. It is what it is. That doesn't mean that the game can not be competitive and that yes, sometimes the small school can pull the upset. I would personally love to see them beat the Tomcats again this year, but I just don't think it will happen.

Acutally, I never liked the open date to start the season. I've always thought it made more sense to use it later in the year to mend injuries before playoffs. This year it's right where it needs to be... just before playoffs!!!! :thumb:

The truth is, Ashland schedules Raceland every year for the guranteed win to start the season. Last year that tried and true formula backfired against the mighty T-Cats. (Raceland had a special team last year.) This year it should be business as usual; Ashland 27, Raceland 13. :ylsuper:

Yeah, they actually lost 7 - 8 seniors. But the team overall was very young last year and those players got the chance to gain experience. Those guys are juniors and seniors this year and have the abilitiy to turn the thing around. I think alot of GC's problem has been mental. They have forgotten how to win and approach the game with a winner's mentality. This team needs to play with some heart and a fire in their bellies this year.

To the best of my memory, I count around 13 that actually contributed. So maybe you have a point there. But again, if GC is ever going to compete, this should be the year.

Have you adequately factored into the equation all the intimidating John Deere green and bib overalls donned by our neighbors to the west? Seriously though, this is the year for the Musketeers to win one of these backyard brawls. They bring everyone back and we lose 28 seniors.

First game could get interesting with GC taking to the air and the Devils secondary still trying to find their wheels. I look for a competitive game and of course Ivan and staff will be tweaking throughout the contest.

August 23rd. The day before games start. Last year it came out a week earlier because games started a week earlier.

I think Jones is the closest thing we have to a replacement for Wills at LB. He definitley has the physical abilities, and I guess we'll find out if he has the leadership qualities.

I think this team goes as far as Jones takes them. He is the keystone on both offense and defense IMO. He will be a man among boys on most Friday nights. He has to stay healthy and lead this team.

I could see Jones in the backfield for the "Jumbo Package" when hard yardage was needed. The kid can flat out run over people. It would obviously give defenses something else to have to prepare for.

Yeah, I look for this one to be very competitive. It's a good thing for us that the "brawl" is in our backyard this year. I look for a much improved win/loss record form the past few seasons.

Kent Robinson and Rick Mayne will be doing the games. I'm looking forward to the change. I think Clear Channel gave us short shrift these last few years. It was obvious that their focus was not in North East KY. football.

I had understood that they would do some of the Fairview games too???

Last year it published on Thursday, August 17th. This year it should hit homes on Thursday 16th. :ylsuper:

Glad to hear that Russell changed radio broadcast affiliations for the upcoming season. This year's games to be broadcast on WLGC 105.7. I'm betting this will be an improvement from the last few seasons.

Maybe the guru can shed some light on where that original thread went???
