I'm sure it is very similar to the St. X / Trinity rival, but magnified. Its one thing losing or beating your cross town rival in a city of 1 million and a town of 6000. I know its hard for you to believe but these people are our friends, neighbors and in some cases family. I know if you read the post on here you would'nt believe it, but its true. We go to church together and see each other everyday. I'm sure in Louisville you could go a whole year and never run into or speak to someone from the rival school. It is impossible here. JC and Paintsville are less than 1/2 mile apart. Whom ever wins this game gets to brag about it for a year and who ever loses has to listen to the other brag. Thats really it in a nutshell.

No! I don't think they ever cheated to get a kid. Matter of fact there is an understanding between the 2 school that allows kids to transfer. But, I guess its a pride thing with people around here. I also agree that it is a lose-lose situation. If JC wins its because the beat-up on a poor little 1A school. If they lose its a huge upset. I also heard that each year both schools split the gate on the games. I heard estimates of 7000-8000 last year at JC. You'll be lucky to get 3000 at Paintsville. Finacially it looks like its a win - win for Paintsville. Since JC has built a pretty good program the rumors have been flying that the game will be stopped, but I don't know. I know alot of people come to town for the Apple Festival which kind of like a homecoming for the county and the game is just part of the festival.

I agree with you in that I don't think it is ever a good decision to purposely run the score up on a team. The thing about here in Johnson County is there are alot of different things at work. 1. You have the big school who never really put an emphasis on football until recently. 2. You have a small school who has alway been fairly successful. The big school has always had great athletes, but because of an unsuccessful football program many transfered across the creek. It bothers many of the JC people to see Paintsville winning and competing for state championships with teams that are predominately made up of county kids. 3. Not always, but sometimes the small school has been less than gracious in winning. I think that alot of it is a revenge thing.

I think the Musketeers are a dangerous team. They could potentially be a playoff team from the district. We all had better respect them, because they have potential. I don't care about embarrassing Paintsville. We need to remember that we are trying to build a class act program here. What I do want to see are 3 things. 1. JC win the game! 2. Our kids play the very best game that they are capable of! 3. Have no injuries on both sides of the ball! If we do all this and win by 1, I'll be happy, or if we win by 50. We just need to take care of business.

JC's depth is what hurt Boyd, they just wore out in the second half. They have a nice running game and if they can get a few scores early and get a lead, they might have a chance. But, I think Mason's athleticism will be to much. Mason County 35 Boyd County 21

WYMT reported on Sports Overtime last night that Grimm has surpassed 1000 yards on the season after last nights game.

Still not raining in Eagleville!

I don't think anyone at JC will forget those years!!!! We use it for fuel every day. Its what keep us working hard in games and in practice because its not been that long ago that we were the biggest losers in Eastern Kentucky, and everyone said so on here.

Some backs, particularly speed back, are really timid when it comes to big hits. I loved Ron Blume! Another great back, but in my opinion he did not like hard contact, yet he still ran for over 2000 yards. Maybe thats why they get to be so fast and elusive......because they're trying to avoid the crushing hits?????

I'd take either one as a premier back......both would be a loaded backfield!

I don't really like it! I thing as a team you gain something by stepping out of your district and competing with the teams from across the region. I understand and do agree that for the most part it does reduce the travel time for games, but it takes away from great rivalry games like Bell/L.C. and Rockcastle/Ashland. Those used to be wars! Plus, it is very difficult to beat a good team twice in the same season. Whoever wins, lets say, an Ashland/JC regular season game, I think has a disadvantage when and if they meet again in the playoffs for what will amount to a District Championship.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but from my observation, Thomas is a great back with alot of speed and abilities! He has great speed and vision and can make you miss. His biggest problem is that he does not like to get hit. Once a team delivers a big shot on him, he runs a little timid after that. As for Clark, also a great back! His biggest hold-up is he does not have the great speed. Things that he accels at are that he does like to hit and runs as hard as he can every play. He also possess' the intangibles that make great backs, he seems to be a leader. Now, I don't know about Thomas' leadership ability, he may be also, but Clarks leadership is evident from the sidelines. Weighing all of this I think Clark would get the edge, mostly based on his leadership abilities!

Grimm at JC is by no means the only back used. He's only averaging about 15-17 carries a game. The coaches try to be very balanced.

All this on only 8 carries against L.C.!!

This game at JC scares me to death and it has all season. An improved GC team with a couple of tough losses and good wins. This game will be played when we typically play the Apple Bowl, not Paintsville......It just before our fall break......and we have won decisively the last 2 years. This game scares me because we would be ripe for a "let down"! Its not been that long ago that GC was competing for district titles.

It is really difficult to judge how good Clay Co. is. I don't think their competition has been real strong. On the other hand LCC has played a couple of proven teams. I think LCC takes this one in a high scoring affair. LCC 43 Clay Co. 37

I think that we are more of a sustained drive team this season. I love Grimm's running style, very hardnosed. Last year Ron's speed was a threat to break it every time. Grimm's not as fast, but much more durable. Grimm has broke a few big runs this season, but he's definately a more "power" runner than Ron was. And then you've got big Blake Johnson. He's all power! Not much breakaway speed there. Long drives, eat-up the clock and keep LC's offense on the sidelines. Thats what I'd like to see.
