They are 4-1 with there only loss to Lexington layfeyette.

Solid "bend but don't break" defense; gave up 21 to a decent Lafayette team in 1st game of the season while throwing 6 interceptions in a game that was only 6-14 with two minutes to play; then beat Montgomery County 23-20, Fleming County 22-12, Morgan County 33-0 and Frankfort 14-12. D-line is fairly athletic; Wells is one of the quicker d-linemen in the area. LBs are small but will hit hard. Secondary has done a pretty good job keeping things in front of them.

MC shuffles 4 RBs in and out of the game; 2 are inside types and 2 are more breakaway types. Two starting WRs are tall and athletic; they like going up against small DBs. QB Cox is coming into his own, is as much of a threat to run as to throw; probably operates out of the gun at least a third of the time.

One thing about Coach Buchanan is that he will mix up the plays, likes the occasional gimmick play, kind of tough to predict.

This one is tough to call; Boyd has played pretty tough competition and gotten hammered a few times; Mason's competition has been decent and all of the games, except vs. an undermanned Morgan County team, have been tight. The Royals have shown the ability to win the close ones, so I'll say

Mason County 23

Boyd County 17

Boyd will start to play better but still won't have enough for Mason Co.

Mason Co 24 Boyd Co 14

JC's depth is what hurt Boyd, they just wore out in the second half. They have a nice running game and if they can get a few scores early and get a lead, they might have a chance.

But, I think Mason's athleticism will be to much.

Mason County 35

Boyd County 21

Mason County - 33

Boyd County - 16

Mason Co. 28-6.

Mason wins big.

Mason wins big.

I hope so, but it seems like the Royals have had a tendency to let up just before halftime and again in the fourth quarter of a couple of games, resulting in closer scores (and having to make goal-line stands to preserve wins) than maybe they should have been. Perfect example was the last game vs. Frankfort, up 14-0 very late in the first half; Frankfort scores with just under a minute to play in the half. Mason drives late in the 4th quarter, gives the ball up on downs deep in Frankfort territory; Frankfort marches down the field and scores with less than 30 seconds to play. A great defensive stop by the Royals sealed the win.

Until the Royals start putting their opponents away (I don't include the game at Morgan County because the Cougars were terribly outmanned - there was a lot of "restroom chatter" about why Mason County was even on the schedule because of the mismatch), I'll say the Royals win another close one. Hopefully they will start putting four solid quarters of football together, because the last 5 games on the schedule are a heck of a lot more important than the first five.

They are 4-1 with there only loss to Lexington layfeyette.

Thanks for the correction.:walk:
