I do agree with you to a point. I agree that playing good teams reveals your weaknesses and does give you a chance to fix it. It also forces you to step outside your comfort zone and open up your offense or try different things on D. Playing teams you dominate allows you to stick with what your comfortable with and makes you predictable. And you are correct that both Cov. Cath. and NCC had a handful of losses early and rebounded to win state championships. But you must remember that they have championship traditions and we're just now building one. A team that is only 3 years removed from 1 and 2 win seasons will have a more delicate psychy than one thats used to winning championships and can rebound from a loss easier because you expect to win. A team like JC might think, here we go again and give up. Now I don't think there's a single coach on that staff that would allow it, but kids are difficult to work with sometimes. How many times have you witnessed great athletes struggle because of adversity.

I agree! Lets see where we stand......... You can't win a state title playing weak teams. Play the best the state has to offer. Playing the really good teams builds character. Now I will say that at some point you go from building character to damaging morale if you getting beat often and badly.

I heard that Henry Clay is a potential week 10 match-up. Trying to work-out a location...

How about camps for elementary age kids. Does anyone know about a camp for the little guys?

The Stepp's from Martin County. All have been great athletes. One played B. Ball at Ohio State back in I think the 70's and great football players and wrestlers as well. I believe the kid that plays basketball at June Buchannan is from this family tree.

Like Coach Jones said on the movie "Radio"......."its looking for a win on Friday night and wakin' up on Saturday morning after you found it!" Its the fans, smells, excitement, atmosphere, drama, winning and losing. Its watching a bunch of kids give everything they've got to bring home a victory. Its living in a small town and everyone talkin' about Friday nights game until next Friday night. Its the smell of fresh cut grass, grilled hamburgers and cannon smoke. The sound of 4000- 5000 fans all screaming at the top of their lungs when you score a touchdown and the sound the other teams fans make after the same TD (sounds like air rushing out of a room). Roll all of that up into one and thats what high school football is all about! Its been nearly 30 years since I was on the field and I still get that feeling in the pit of my stomach when I smell fresh cut grass. If you played football you know the feeling. If your stomach could talk it would say "awe crap....its time for 2-A-Days!"

By recruiting this kind of class KCU has definately positioned themselves for a strong base in the future. I also can see them selling a bunch of tickets each weekend because most of their kids are local. Great Job!

I agree with C.H.E. I believe Coach Matney will use the passing attack if he needs it. JC rushed for over 4400 yards this year as a team. No one was really stopping us on the ground so there was no real need to throw the ball much. And in most of the games we had a nice margin of victory, so I don't think you throw the ball then because it gives the appearance your running up the score. In games when we needed it we used it. In the Ahland playoff game, Rockcastle and Cov. Cath. games we passed fairly effectively. I do understand FKF's arguement about a more balanced attack and I do agree with it. Keep the other side guessing.

I know its kind of off topic, but it could help with keeping kids. Construction began last week on the new football stadium. They have removed the track which will be built back regulation size, will be adding visitors bleachers and a large building at the end of the stadium which will house new concession, home and visitor locker rooms, film room and coaches office. I heard it will be very similar to the one Belfry has. I heard the home bleachers will not be done until after next season. With these new facilities it will help keep the athletes.

I've heard Conner, Belfry and of course Paintsville are pretty much for sure and a match-up with Wheelersburg, OH is looking like it may happen.

JC played a great game! Up by 23 points in the 3rd period. McCarty had 33 points. First time all year that they played as a team. Congratulations Eagles!

Thats a good lookin' class. I agree that if they stick together this bunch could do something. The 2 from Johnson Central are studs. A little bigger and Tackett could have played anywhere. As for Johnson, he had the size, just needed more speed. But no one man's bringn' him down.

Before we all go bashing the administration at JC, lets remember that Coach Starns did "RESIGN". It sounds on here like he was fired. Until all the information comes out I'll reserve judgement. I will say that he is a great guy and a great basketball coach and he will be successful were ever he ends up.

Johnson Central's just not all that great this year. I think Coach Starns had a good game plan and was able to go in at the half with a lead, but Paintsville started hitting their shots in the second half and Central wasn't. McCarty looked to be off his game a little also and wasn't hitting his shots.

Johnson Central returns a ton of talent. Particularly the skilled positions. If a new O-line can be put together (with Tony Burchett I'm sure it will happen) and injuries are avoided I can see them getting back to the State Semi-finals. BUT..... the road to the championship game goes through Covington whether it be Cov. Cath. or Highlands. Until they're knocked out I'd same they're the front-runners.
