Yes, actually. Most of them Mahan basically dropped and picked back up on the first bounce. The way he took advantage of them, apparently he likes the busted plays. He scrambles well.

I'm pulling for the current press box to be replaced by one giant subwoofer. And then ring the whole place with Bose speakers for surround-sound. If we could get a Jumbotron like Letcher Central, then we could watch some awesome DVDs there in the off-season. Seriously, though, that's the best game I've ever seen at The Nest. Ever. And almost the best high school game I've ever seen period (right under when Lawrence County snapped Breathitt County's giant win streak in Louisa). I think that's really all that needs to be said about it.

I think we will only be encouraged to trade pleasantries here.

Attacking a school and its fans (who may sometimes be overzealous) is a different animal altogether from attacking an area and the people who live there using outdated stereotypes. The former is sometimes warranted. The latter is never warranted.

Armpit of the state? Wow. Now there's a guy who is obviously qualified to lecture all us hicks about how to be CLASSY. We should all be like THIS guy, and make fun of smaller cities around us to show them how CLASSY we are. I'm going to go belittle some people from places like Salyersville and Inez right now on the internet to display my CLASS!

Let's put it this way: if you bet Raceland, Belfry, and Johnson Central as a trifecta at Keeneland, you'd probably be buying everybody you knew dinner at Malone's that night with cash to spare.

Eastern Kentucky can dream, can't it? I am a huge fan of this selection.

The Nest is becoming a scary place to show up. The numbers are speaking for themselves this year.

Expect The Nest to rock and roll this year until somebody makes it stop. What a great time to be an Eagle fan. This sure beats going 1-9.

Central's special teams are quite solid as well. That's probably the most improved unit on the team since last season.

He welcomes the challenge, I'm sure.

Rumor has it the extra speakers we used to have are going to make a return to the stadium for this game.

It does when it's your non-throwing shoulder. And collarbone fractures are 3-4 week injuries.

As far as I'm concerned, our only rival right now in football is Ashland. Period. And looks like it'll be that way for a few years. We're going to try to pick on someone our own size now. And about this year's Apple Bowl...if we had Matewan's coach instead of Coach Matney, they'd probably spend this week talking about the national rushing record Shawn Grim would've set Friday night instead of that kid from Matewan.

This game was not nearly as close as the final score indicates. It could've been a lot, lot worse. That's all that needs to be said about that. Was 49-0 at the half. The running clock in the second half ran a whole lot and it ran real fast. Six touchdowns for Shawn Grim, I believe. Was around 250 rushing for 5 TDs and caught a screen pass for 34 yards and one more TD. J.K. Ratliff came in and played the first series of the second half. Didn't throw the ball, just took three snaps and gave it off, but good to see the Deuce back up and at 'em.

I personally hope the football configuration is left as is, except for maybe changing the playing surface to turf. I like our bleachers just the way they are (with the addition of some fresh paint, perhaps). Central's stadium is not one of the biggest out there, but the way it is nestled down there makes it one of the prettier places to play football in the fall. I would like the flaming scoreboard, though.

I don't know. I think I'd like to see him play against Greenup County and get a game under his belt so he doesn't try to come in and start the Ashland game rusty from sitting out for so long. Just my personal thought.

They should probably just go ahead and close that one when it opens. Save everybody some time. And for those who say the Apple Bowl isn't the most important game on the schedule, you're right...and you're wrong. In the SHORT term, for this season and this season only, it means nothing. It doesn't change the district standings or the playoff picture. In the LONG term, however, it means EVERYTHING. You lose this game, county kids start going to Paintsville at a faster rate and you lose the future of Eagle football. THAT is why this game matters so much.

I won't hope for a certain number, but I don't think any Eagle fan will ever feel bad about any touchdown that might happen to get scored by Central at any point in any Apple Bowl, ever.

Paintsville kept one coach for decades. Central changed coaches on a regular basis in their first twenty years. That's pretty much the story on how they built that early advantage.

As an Eagle fan myself, I am reserving judgement on how good we are and how good we can be until after Ashland visits Eagle Field next month. But hey, if we have to play every game, might as well think we can win every game, right?

It will be back on Apple Week next year. This has happened before with the schedule rolling over.
