Not in the last 18 years, they haven't. Not on a football field in the regular season, anyhow. I will say, it's nice to read a thread about this game that doesn't make my head hurt. There's another, shall we say...less discriminating board where (and yes, they're mostly Central) fans have caused the closing of at least two threads about this game already. I wish every high school message forum were capable of hosting intelligent discussions like this one. I assure you, nobody in Johnson County who will make any difference in the outcome of this game is taking it the LEAST BIT lightly tonight. Go Black!

Just for anyone outside NKY who doesn't realize this, Highlands has been playing up in class ever since we went to six classes. In fact, I believe Highlands should be a large 3A school according to their enrollment and they're actually playing up TWO classes, if you check the enrollment numbers...it's not always a matter of size.

And I would say that most Johnson Central fans have been watching the improvement of this Ashland team with great interest, and realize that this game is probably the hardest one left on our schedule in the regular season. Never easy to beat a good Tomcat team in Putnam Stadium. I absolutely would agree they belong in the 5A top ten teams.

Shelby County has lost two games, 33-30 against North Hardin and 27-14 against North Bullitt. Nevertheless, I think it's a schedule upgrade from Louisville Shawnee and am very happy they'll be coming to the Nest so we can get some football in. Go Eagles.

He's got an injured shoulder ligament, same shoulder he injured last year and had surgically repaired, I believe. This actually happened the week before, not during the game with BS; J.K. Hall took the first snap at QB against BS and played there pretty much the whole game, so he's had his trial by fire and got the win.

At Shawnee HS in Louisville. They're 0-2 after a 41-14 loss against North Oldham and a 42-6 loss against Lafayette. Long road trip for the Golden Eagles, but hopefully it'll be a chance for our new quarterback to become more confident in reading and directing the offense and improving the ballhandling and exchanges. Got to cut out the fumbles before we go to Versailles on Sept. 26th or Woodford County may blow our doors off the way they've been playing the last couple of games. That being said, there was a lot we can build on and take from this game going forward. Several crucial plays made by some young players at vital times to preserve this win in a game where the Eagle backs were against the wall. Good to have some close game experience like this early; I think it'll help us in the battles to come against the Woodfords and Hazards and Belfrys of the world.

Tough game to throw a brand new quarterback into for his first meaningful varsity action. Proud of Central for hanging in there under adversity!

Bowling Green and John Hardin are probably inseperable right now. BG lost a tough game to Kentucky's toughest team, and Highlands lost a tough game to one of the toughest teams in the nation. More will become clear over the season, so I wouldn't worry too much about rankings right now.

I'm pretty sure that was a reference to the "Johnsonville" reference from the Covington Catholic internet radio announcers. They didn't know where Johnson Central was. They eventually figured it out. They turned out to be pretty nice people, actually. And our game against CovCath turned out to be probably the most awesome spectacle in high school football football I've ever been a part of. In fact, when I got to announce that we were leading CovCath at the half in the state semifinal game, I got chills. Literally, chills. If Blake Johnson could've not been injured that game, I think we would've gone deep into the fourth quarter with the NKY folk, because they couldn't stop him carrying the football. What a great night that was for Central football. I hope there's another night like that in our future.

Plus you play the Colerains of the world. Not many Kentucky teams dare do that. I admire that, personally.

Their results definitely look better. They rolled up two big wins, although Dunbar is now 0-2 (having lost to Middlesboro in a shutout) and Western's other game was a win over a winless West Jessamine team. In the last two years, I hadn't really understood Coach Lucas's offensive philosophy at Station. He's had some outstanding athletes who would've been great running backs in particular, but he's tried to emphasize the pass the last two years against Central. Had he put the ball more in the hands of players like Combs and Wilhite and Philon and run straight ahead instead of making his poor quarterback run for his life in the backfield trying to pass, I think the results might have been different.

There are plenty of us on here. Plenty. Most of us who've been around a while (and I was on Bluegrass Preps back in 2000 for our FIRST undefeated season, I remember very well arguing with the Pikeville fans about which team was better that year) don't come on here waving the black and gold flag daily. Some of our younger fans may not remember, but most of the 1990s we did NOT average 10 wins a year; in fact, when I was in high school, we won nine games in four years. Our "tradition" is based on about eight or nine decent seasons out of over thirty years as a football playing institution, and we still haven't played in a state final yet. Our mountain neighbors in Breathitt and Belfry have multiple rings, so we've got a way to go to even get to that level (although I admit, if we played in the old 2A or 3A now, we might have one or two of those also). To expect fans of teams like Highlands with 18 state championships to talk about us and respect us is absurd until we do something that commands their respect. I am very proud of what Coach Matney and the team and boosters and fans have accomplished in the last four years, and it's good to see other people being proud as well. But we need a sense of perspective: there are teams better than us right now, and they've been better for decades, and they will continue to be better until we pull ourselves up to their level on a consistent basis. To sum it up, I don't think other teams hate us, I just don't think they're going to notice us until we consistently make statements (on the field, not on the internet) that make them take notice of us.
