I know he's not happy about a loss, but Coach Elam does a super job with what he has at Pineville.

Russell County 35 Knox Central 19
Very disappointed.... First, I want to apologize for the update thread. AT&T has not yet seen fit to bless this area with 3G or 4G and I thought I would at least be able to post scores using EDGE but I couldn't even open the website. Russell County is as good as advertised. We hear a lot about Britt and he is a fine player, but I really liked their qb and linebackers. Also, they have an excellent coaching staff. This was a game of breaks and Russell Co., thru what they had been taught, created their own. The Knox Central ground attack was as solid as usual tonight with both Canady and Gist rushing for over 100 yrds. each. However 3 KC fumbles completely changed the complection of this game. None were incidental, all were forced by the RC defense. Helmet to ball. Sound fundementals. And Russell Co. was good enough to take advantage of all three. For KC, well done guys. It's tough to lose, especially on Senior Night, but there were some valuable lessons to be learned here tonight that will help get you deeper into the playoffs. For Russell Co., congratulations. You earned it.

Russell County/Knox Central Updates
I'll set the scene before I go out the door to the game. As one enters town, they've set up one of those State Hwy. Dept. electronic message boards reading CAUTION ENTERING PANTHER NATION. Another is near the field welcoming the Lakers to "The Jungle". They brought in a very tall crane with a huge American flag hanging from it. Tailgaters are out in force including two huge John Madden type motor homes. Signs everywhere. Never seen anything close at a Panther football game. Gonna suck if we lose. Gotta go find a parking space......

A Question for Highlands Historians
You know, I've always wanted to open a thread with "Highlands" in the title. I get to see what it's like to have people actually read a thread I've started. Now, while I have your attention, did y'all know Knox Central is currently 8-0 (first time ever), playing Friday night for a district championship (first since 1975, apparently) playing against an also unbeaten 8-0 opponent in Russell Co. and already this season own wins over Harlan Co. and Johnson Central (AKA in NKY as Johnsonville)? If I were a Highlands fan, I think I would be hoping RC, or Boyle, or Lex Cath, or somebody stops this juggernaut before they get to the semi finals. And.....if you mistake Knox Co. for Knoxville, you're gonna wind up about 100 miles too far south. OK, just having a little fun. Once again I do appreciate the help.:thumb:

A Question for Highlands Historians
Thanks everyone. I should be able to find someone who played on that team. I start checking tomorrow.

A Question for Highlands Historians
I, and most others, have been saying that if Knox Central wins Friday night it will be their first district championship. However, I've read somewhere that KC won a district championship and lost to Highlands in the playoffs in 1975. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? How many teams from each district actually played in the playoffs in 1975? Is it possible they were runners up? Thanks for any help. I know you guys keep track of your history.

Pink towel, gloves lead to Corbin controversy
Austin is a good kid and a nice player. I hope both his father and Coach Jewell just let this whole thing blow over.

Russell County @ Knox Central Predictions
The week of October 15th has been declared "Panther Nation Week". From the KCPS website: A proclamation signing was held at Knox Central High School on Thursday, October 4, declaring the week of October 15 as “Panther Nation” week in the city of Barbourville and throughout Knox County. Judge Executive J.M. Hall and Barbourville City Mayor David Thompson joined Knox Central’s head football coach Scott Russell for the signing. The Knox Central football team is 8-0 this season and will face Russell County at home on Friday, October 19, as they compete for the district title. The proclamation encourages local businesses and organizations to decorate store fronts and dress in blue and gold to support the Panthers. A countywide pep rally will be held around the Court Square on Thursday, October 18. Downtown will be blocked off by the KCHS JROTC beginning at 5pm and a police escorted convoy will leave Knox Central at 5:30pm. The pep rally event will take place beginning at 6pm. All community members and business owners around the Court Square are invited to participate in the pep rally. Pretty cool shutting down the Downtown area. Of course, it normally closes around dark anyway.

Kentucky Class 4A Football Rankings for 10-16
The cool thing about H. S. football is that rankings mean nothing. It's all settled on the field.

Russell County @ Knox Central Predictions
What more could you want? Both teams are undefeated. Both are ranked in everyones top ten. A district championship on the line. Hopes kept alive for the perfect season. Who you got?

Knox Central 47 Rockcastle County 14
Knox Centrals first ever 8-0 start to the season. Sets up a huge game next week with an also 8-0 Russell County for the district championship and a shot at an undefeated season.
-
Russell County 56 Clay County 14
Uh, is this final? This sets up the big game next week. I think it was 50-0 at the half so obviously RC dominated. Is it true that Russell County's starting center was ejected late in the first half?

Bell County 34 Corbin 0
Bell returned the opening kickoff for a TD and it was all downhill from there. Corbin, after going more than ten years without a district loss will not have a home playoff game this year.
