I, and most others, have been saying that if Knox Central wins Friday night it will be their first district championship. However, I've read somewhere that KC won a district championship and lost to Highlands in the playoffs in 1975. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? How many teams from each district actually played in the playoffs in 1975? Is it possible they were runners up?

Thanks for any help. I know you guys keep track of your history.

All I can tell from the records is that we did defeat Knox Central (49-22) in 1975. It looks like it was the first game of the playoffs. The book says they won it in "the district playoffs." We went on to defeat Cawood (35-6) and Franklin-Simpson in the State AAA Championship (21-0). So it looks like we played just three post-season games in those days. That season was the only time KKS has played Knox Central.

The Birds ended the 1975 season 13-1. Their only loss was at the hands of Campbell County (20-12). Another interesting factoid: The Dixie game was postponed due to rain and was played the following Monday.

Did you have to add that part? :D I have two good friends that played on the CC team and they remind me plenty enough about the Camels' upset of us. :irked: It was a bad night for me: forgot to pack my jersey; flew home to get it; got a speeding ticket going back to the school; team is loading up and, as I was running from the locker room towards the bus, I tripped over the speed bump outside the locker room, tweaking my sprained ankle. Adding insult to injury was going out to the County and getting beat. Just a bad day all around.

There was a silver lining to the loss: we had been winning but playing rather sloppily. Needless to say, we got "refocused" by the coaches the following week in practice prepping for Knox Central.

My factoid from that year: our championship game against FS was at WKU, which was the last year the championships were at WKU until the state games returned in 09 and my younger son played in the 09 game.

It looks to me like Knox Central was their District Champion and they played the NKY District Champion (HHS) in the Regional Game. The winner of that game in those days played the other Regional winner in the semi-finals and then that winner met someone from the other side of the bracket for the State Title.

So it looks like Knox Central had their first District Title in 1975.

I'm sure that you have broken that game film down a couple of times.

mex, I think I have the 16mm film of that game but I can assure you it is not one that I had transferred over to a VCR tape. So no breakdown of that tape. I don't even think we reviewed it as a team the day after the game. I have watched the state game several times, each of which has been humbling. I wasn't near as good as I want to remember being, missed more tackles and blocks than I thought I did, and man was I slow!

Clyde, no tape on the tripping but I think the entire City heard the curse words uttered at the time.

Even if a tape was produced I would struggle believing. I have a hard time picturing you as anything but today's version of LN.

That's good enough for me. Thanks everyone for your response.

You know, I've always wanted to open a thread with "Highlands" in the title. I get to see what it's like to have people actually read a thread I've started. :D

Now, while I have your attention, did y'all know Knox Central is currently 8-0 (first time ever), playing Friday night for a district championship (first since 1975, apparently) playing against an also unbeaten 8-0 opponent in Russell Co. and already this season own wins over Harlan Co. and Johnson Central (AKA in NKY as Johnsonville)? If I were a Highlands fan, I think I would be hoping RC, or Boyle, or Lex Cath, or somebody stops this juggernaut before they get to the semi finals. And.....if you mistake Knox Co. for Knoxville, you're gonna wind up about 100 miles too far south.

:D OK, just having a little fun. Once again I do appreciate the help.:thumb:

Is KC where the Canady kid plays?
