You know, I've always wanted to open a thread with "Highlands" in the title. I get to see what it's like to have people actually read a thread I've started.

 

Now, while I have your attention, did y'all know Knox Central is currently 8-0 (first time ever), playing Friday night for a district championship (first since 1975, apparently) playing against an also unbeaten 8-0 opponent in Russell Co. and already this season own wins over Harlan Co. and Johnson Central (AKA in NKY as Johnsonville)? If I were a Highlands fan, I think I would be hoping RC, or Boyle, or Lex Cath, or somebody stops this juggernaut before they get to the semi finals. And.....if you mistake Knox Co. for Knoxville, you're gonna wind up about 100 miles too far south.

Always enjoy when HHS gets a chance at playing an undefeated opponent. Lot's of excitement.

It looks to me like Knox Central was their District Champion and they played the NKY District Champion (HHS) in the Regional Game. The winner of that game in those days played the other Regional winner in the semi-finals and then that winner met someone from the other side of the bracket for the State Title.

 

So it looks like Knox Central had their first District Title in 1975.

 

Wait, weren't there sub districts in 1975?

mex, I think I have the 16mm film of that game but I can assure you it is not one that I had transferred over to a VCR tape. So no breakdown of that tape. I don't even think we reviewed it as a team the day after the game. I have watched the state game several times, each of which has been humbling. I wasn't near as good as I want to remember being, missed more tackles and blocks than I thought I did, and man was I slow!

 

Clyde, no tape on the tripping but I think the entire City heard the curse words uttered at the time.

 

I think everybody has that reaction watching themselves later on. I find myself yelling in my Mr. Schneider voice, "88 you have to get across the TE's head. 88 you have to keep your feet moving on that block." I usually just turn them off.

 

Back on topic. Good for Knox. Special years like this are huge for communities.

Leatherneck, I've had the same experience and discovered that 16 mm film makes one slower than they were in real life time. Don't worry, it's the film - it wasn't you.

I remember that was the case with you guys for a long time. Boyle never encountered one until 1983 when it seemed everyone was placed in one.

 

From Boyle's perspective in the 70's we were in a District with Somerset, Russell County, Casey County (sometimes), Garrard County and Wayne County moved into it in '79 but may have already been there. I recall the KHSAA mandating that each district team HAD to play the others in '79. Before that our District was under the Dickinson point system. One year Somerset had more points ('76) but I think Boyle was probably as good or better and another season Somerset was left out in the cold in '77 when Boyle had more points.

In 1975, Lincoln was in the AAA District with Knox, Laurel and Whitley.
