Most came from Conner. I'd say about 80-85%, the other 15-20% came from Ryle and Boone. Srs. had the option to stay at previous schools, so I doubt Cooper has many Srs. at all.

That could be entirely false. Maybe a guy or gal wants to help their own kid, as well as the school? They coach their pants off for several years. Then they realize, that either A. Without their kid there they just don't feel like they can dedicate their time and effort like they were willing to in the past. or B. They want to watch their kid play at the next level, or spend time with other younger kids they have. I do have to say that watching this thread since it has been up is nothing but a reminder as to why it is hard to find coaches anymore. Take a look at the thread, people don't expect coaches to be selfish for their own kid, yet people want to be selfish for THEIR kid, and have a coach stay?

Interesting............I know the coffers were left full for Coach Arlinghaus to spend on the field because past coaches weren't alllowed to. Heck, one coach had a sprinkler system donated, but wasn't allowed to install it. I know drainage was put in to make RF more playable, bullpens were built, dugout money was raised, mound was rebuilt from scratch, sod laid, field aerated, fertilized, overseeded on a yearly basis, 3 tons of infield conditioner purchased on a yearly basis. The left side of the infield was raised 14 inches through over 200 tons of dirt delivered and placed. The last coach got lambasted for putting in pressbox, and wasn't allowed to fix the scoreboard, much less purchase one. The title IX suit that was successful against the Boone County Schools back in the late 90's for softball really hamstrung the baseball programs.

There is plenty of blame being put on the coaches from what I hear as well! Seems as though there's plenty to go around.:thumb:

Oh wow. This is unbelievably sad news. Ray was a tremendous baseball guy, and for those of us that knew him, we knew he was an even better person. His sense of humor HAD to stick out once you got to know him. As a young coach in the ninth, he gave me respect along with a friendly competitiveness. Ray, you will be truly missed by everyone in the community.

Except when Conner beat them 1-0 that year.

Anyone know of any radio stations that are playing the sweet 16 games, and would be availabe online? If so, it would be useful to post them.

I knew it would be impossible to play today. I have my doubts about tomorrow. I think Mon/Tues is what it will end up being. No harm in scheduling or hoping for tomorrow.

No, really the sarcasm comes from someone who has a lot of experince coaching over the years, and knows that no matter what any varsity coach does, there are unhappy people in the ranks. Those people tend to take their gripes behind coach's backs because they don't want to face the truth. I mean here we have a team, that is the ONLY team in Ludlow history, from what I've read on here, that beat Covcath (who happened to be 27-5 and the odds on favorite to win the region) and 4 years later, there are people complaining about how it was done? That's the nature of the beast today, it's always someone else's fault. Teams could be better, if only Coach A would have played me at SS rather than 2b, because I was a knothole all star at SS. That's just how things go these days. And Beigs will do things his way no doubt, and he does them the right way. And if people don't like it, he's not going to care. And if you really think that what people post on an internet message board, is important enough to "step on toes", well I'll just let that speak for itself. The important thing in this thread is that Ludlow got themselves a fine, fine coach who will do things the right way, and he will do what is best for the Ludlow program, not how someone feels about a coach that slighted him or her several years ago.

You are so right. It's all the asst. coach's doing that Ludlow beat Covcath that year. He made incredibly awesome decisions while coaching first base.

They should hire a Ludlow knothole coach, didn't they win the city championship last year? Did they apply?

Sounds like you already see part of the problem. That's pretty tough to overcome.

I can tell you this. Boone is losing about 75 students. That leaves them in 6a. Ryle is losing about 175-200 students. That leaves them in 6a. Conner is losing in the neighborhood of 500 students, and that leaves them in 6a. Cooper would have about 850-900 depending on growth, and what some srs. from the aforementioned schools do.

There is no news on the coaching front. The school just now started accepted applications. So anyone who says "I'm going there, or he's going there" is nothing but guesswork.

Hamilton Joe, have you applied? If not you should. I think the players deserve someone as well schooled as you are. You know a lot.

I've lost track of Coach Hensley since he left Ludlow. What school did he go to? How's the program doing?

That's a pretty big assumption for you to make. You seem to like to bash on Ludlow Athletics and some of their decisions on here (basketball, football, baseball), might I recommend you maybe offer some of your expertise in the form of a volunteer assistant coach? Or possibly help in some other capacity. Schools are always looking for volunteers to do things like work concessions, run scoreboards, keep books, announce, or take money at games. You could even get on the school board as a community member and help to raise funds for better facilities to help all athletes in the Ludlow community. Any of the above efforts would probably better serve the athletes of the community you seem to have a genuine interest in. Just a suggestion for a more constructive way of doing things.

Why would Ludlow seed? They can't be the only team that prefers the blind draw, otherwise the district would seed. Last year the boys did play Ryle. 2 years ago they played the likes of Campbell, Ryle, St. Henry (Maybe leading to the "underachievers" status that you so eloquently spoke of). Anyways, congrats to the Ludlow team on a fine win to start their season.

That would be a great solution. Or try and match up the teams that get dropped, even though obviously they won't be in the same week. I would think the Simon Kenton and Campbell County will be dropping a game as well.

So, because a school opens in the year 2008-2009, they can't compete in post season? That bars a team from having a shot at the post season. Canceling a non-district opponent game does not. How, other than having to find another opponent, is Owensboro being punished?

What would you have them do? They want to be eligible for post season play next year.

Exactly. I've seen the KHSAA letter to Conner. Not sure who Conner will drop.

I'm sure she played the region final to NOT win. It's a common occurence amongst high school coaches.

I know Conner will probably lose upwards of 500-600 kids to Cooper. Not sure if Ryle will be losing that many or not. What's the cutoff for 6a? I'm not sure if all 3 schools will stay in 6a or not.
