Good Start to the season for Ludlow and Coach Highfield. I know I look for a lot better year for the Panthers after a very rough year last year...

Congratulations to the Ludlow Panthers. Always happy to see the river city schools win games that others think they won't..

He is back, but didn't start tonight, got some valueable minutes in and played a pretty good game. :thumb:

After looking at Ludlows schedule on the khsaa website and seeing that they play all the Div III schools twice and throw in a very weak non-conference schedule (Covington Latin and SCPA ???)and this Panther team should win quite a few games this year. Good luck to the Panthers this year.

Yeah Ludlow definitely picked an easier non conference schedule this year. But I mean its pretty smart considering the team last year only won 7 games I believe. So it would be good to have some games on the schedule this year to get this team some confidence. I know this team does have some talent on it this year with some very good athletes. Their only problem is that they really are not that big. So IMO if they want to be competitive against the better teams, they need to run, and then run some more, because they do have the guys who can run the fast pace style...:thumb:

Playing a soft non-conference schedule does make some sense when you consider the record from last year and the underachieving team from 2 years ago but I'm not to sure that it really gets them ready for Tournament time. When they are sporting a 15 and 2 record and not getting votes for the NKY Top 10 and the people in Ludlow want to know why then they might want to take a look at a very weak schedule. I mean they don't even play Dixie who is in their own district. The KHSAA needs to enforce seeding thru out the state and make district teams play each other at least once.

In comparsion the Ludlow girls play a much tougher schedule and in the long run I think it will serve them better. It's almost as if they have 2 entirely different philosophys when it comes to setting their schedule.

Regardless I wish the Panthers nothing but the very best this year.

Overall, you could tell it was both teams first game. It was pretty sloppy and both teams are capable of much better basketball. Congrats to ludlow, they played well down the strech. Both teams should come out much better in their next matchups. I think both coaches are glad to get the first game jitters out of the way.

Well I agree that playing a tougher schedule helps. I think the reason why you see the girls and boys program have 2 different philosophys this year is because of how good they are. No offense to the boys team, however they only won 7 games last year I believe, and so its obvious the boys program is down right now. So don't want to schedule that tough, because coming off a 7 win season, you dont want the kids to start off again with a lot of losses because they would lose all the confidence they have. Then well they just cant help after that about the conference and district being weak. While the girls though are trying to show that they really are one of the top teams in the region, and can play with the big programs now. They are a team that will be in the region, and want to actually make a run at it this year, so they went away to prepare themselves to get in position to make that run! :thumb:

Grant Logan had 13 to lead ludlow in scoring. Gier and Williamson were all over the boards. Something around 26 rebounds combined. Williamson also added 12 points. Rouse did not start or play much the first half after only having one day of practice since returning. But did come off the bench to score 10 points in the second half. 7 of which came late in the fourth quarter.

Craddock for Lloyd played a nice game tonight scoring i believe 16 points for the Juggs.

I wouldn't expect them to play CCH or Holmes or teams in the upper part of the Top 10 but I do think playing teams like St. Henry, Holy Cross, Scott or even Ryle would better prepare them for tournament play. I simply think that all districts should be required to seed. The win over Lloyd would have given them a probable 2 seed and they would have avoided a 1st round game with Dixie which is usually the best team in the district.

I'm also well aware of the teams that they played in years past so that is even more reason to ask why they decided to dumb down their schedule this year. This years team imo has the ability to compete with some of the better teams but apparently whoever put the schedule together didn't think so.

Enough said, I wish Ludlow and all the smaller Class A schools a huge amount of success this year.
