Boone County cancels 2008 game

Featured Replies

The Rebels will not make the return trip to Owensboro in 2008. Have they scheduled someone else or is the road trip just too far to make?

I saw that this morning as well. I'm guessing the new Cooper High School has been added to their schedule and they had to reduce a game. They chose the farthest path!

I'm guessing when you say, "...will not make a return trip..." that means Owensboro came to Boone Co. this season?

Yes. They won at Boone County 14-3 on Sept. 29

gchs may be correct. Is that considered breach of contract?

I'm sure there was a buyout clause. I was just fishing for the reason why they bought out.

Sometimes if they are warned in advance the other team will release the contract with no penalty. But if Owenboro chose I am sure Boone would pay a penalty, but I doubt they would.

KHSAA will allow Boone to drop without penalty due to the addition of the Cooper game.

I'm expecting that's the case. There was an article about Cooper that said they were competing in the district and would play Boone, Ryle and Conner next year.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. It does nothing to help Owensboro's situation.

For a regular season non district game, just way too far to travel IMO.

Do you really think Cooper will ready for varsity in year 1? Not only year 1 of the program, but year 1 of the new school! No other startup program has played varsity in the first year.

As I understand it, students at Cooper will come from Boone, Ryle and Conner, but seniors at those schools will have a choice of moving to Cooper or staying at their current school. That could seriously impact Cooper's ability to field a varisty team.

Greenwood went through the same situation when Warren Central split in the early 90s. They played varsity the first year, but they were in 2A for a year before moving up to 3A.

They are playing for sure. Whether they are ready can be debated; but they are definitely playing.

Ryle, Boone & Conner were told they had to schedule Cooper or forfeit the district game.
