Boone County cancels 2008 game

Featured Replies

KHSAA will allow Boone to drop without penalty due to the addition of the Cooper game.

There will be no penalty. Having to drop a team is not Boone's choice. Cooper notified the KHSAA of their intent to play varsity next year forcing Boone to drop a game. KHSAA will not enforce a penalty.

I don't think a school should be able to jump in a district on a non-realignment year.

Schedules are always flexible, especially at the high school level. Based on the fact that Cooper apparently is playing a full varsity schedule, I don't see how Boone has any choice. Still it seems decidedly unfair for Owensboro. They made the long trip this year. I doubt Owensboro will be able to replace Boone with an equal calibur opponent. Not much can be done, but it is unfortuneate for Owensboro.

Exactly. I've seen the KHSAA letter to Conner. Not sure who Conner will drop.

What would you have them do? They want to be eligible for post season play next year.

I understand that, but Boone could have easily dropped someone else, although Owensboro probably makes the most sense. Still, Owensboro is getting the raw end of the deal.

Exactly. Most of the other NKY 6A schools are in the same boat. Since alignment forced all teams to rearrange their schedules this current year, and since most contracts are home/away, they probably all have to drop one game.

If they make a good hire as the HC they can compete. Most of the kids coming in will have some experience at MS and HS level and all of teams involved have good programs. It would be a situation just like a new coach coming in and putting in a new system at any other school. Kids will learn the system and respond if the Coach is up to the task.

I would hope that Boone County would make a solid effort to play at Owensboro in either 2009 or 2010 (with no more trips to Florence for the Red Devils in between), just as a way to make up the cancellation.

Thats fair enough.

I'd have loved to see this series continue as it was a great game for both of the programs involved. I hope that the coaches work hard to make it happen down the road. Unfortunate set of circumstances, nothing either team can do about it really..........

I would not and no offense to the fine folks in Owensboro.

I don't see why any NKY team would travel past Lexington or Louisville to play a game when there are so many teams in NKY and Cincinnati to choose from. Its too much of a hassle and most of your fans don't make the trip.

I agree with you completely. But its only fair that Boone travel to Owensboro, since Owensboro did travel to them.

Should never have been scheluded on a Home and Home basis to begin with...... a neutral site, say Louisville fits fairness yet is really asking alot of both teams respective fans..... Poor planning from the get go.....

Where does fair come into it? I'm confident Owensboro will schedule another game so how would they lose out?
