Boone County cancels 2008 game

Featured Replies

I have no blood in this issue being discussed except I do travel the roads from A to B.... It is a long haul. Only thing I can add is this is how "bad blood" between schools is initiated.... Good Luck to both in the 2007 playoffs...

Where does fair come into it? I'm confident Owensboro will schedule another game so how would they lose out?
Since we're in the middle of a contract cycle, it could be hard for Owensboro to find another game, maybe even more difficult to find a team willing to come to Owensboro.

Are all contracts 2 years?

The vast majority of them are.
I understand that, but Boone could have easily dropped someone else, although Owensboro probably makes the most sense. Still, Owensboro is getting the raw end of the deal.

I'm guessing here but remember the KHSAA has designated which weeks that district games must be played. Boone Co had Sept 21 as an Open date this year. That was a district week and might be when the Cooper game will be next year. The following week (9/29) was the Owensboro game which will likely be the new Open week.

What would you have them do? They want to be eligible for post season play next year.

I don't think that the KHSAA should allow a school to enter into district competition on a non-realignment year. We are all on two year contract cycles. They should play non-district next year and compete in the district the following.

Isn't someone on Boone's schedule going to get screwed if they have to drop a team? If so, why not cancel with the team that's 3 hours away?

So, because a school opens in the year 2008-2009, they can't compete in post season? That bars a team from having a shot at the post season. Canceling a non-district opponent game does not. How, other than having to find another opponent, is Owensboro being punished?

Maybe Cooper can schedule Owensboro next year. They too have to fill a full schedule, they could possibly play all the teams that Boone, Ryle and Conner had to drop.

That would be a great solution. Or try and match up the teams that get dropped, even though obviously they won't be in the same week. I would think the Simon Kenton and Campbell County will be dropping a game as well.

This is not true, remember the scheduling grid District games must be played in certain weeks.

I think that the new High School will do just fine with football.
