The new Cooper High School in Boone Co. is slated to open up in 2008, are they fielding a football team next year? They have not realigned the boundaries yet but what could be expected out of the new school? Have they hired coaches for the athletic teams yet?

They will start out 6a. I dont know if they have coach yet.

 

They will draw mostly from Ryle , Conner, and little from Boone.

 

Will Probably hurt Ryle the most. the exact lines where drawn up and should be in the paper soon.

BTW I really think naming the new High School after the former Ryle HS Principal was a bit silly. I mean name the football field or something like that at Ryle for him, and not the new school. I mean no disrespect to Principal Cooper as from all account he was a great guy, but I would think naming something at Ryle after him would have been much more appropriate.

Ryle was named after former Conner principal Larry Ryle.

 

Conner was named after a long-time school board member.

I have heard that Mike Wolf, an assistant coach at Ryle could be named the football coach at Cooper. This is just speculation, I am sure, though.

I know Conner will probably lose upwards of 500-600 kids to Cooper. Not sure if Ryle will be losing that many or not. What's the cutoff for 6a? I'm not sure if all 3 schools will stay in 6a or not.

Those who loved him still refer to him as Coop-Dawg. I would like to see the "Cooper Dawgs". He did so much for the kids in Union he deserves much more then a football stadium. That's why Ryle held off on naming the stadium util the new school was built.

What about school colors? How about the Cooper Comets sporting red and yellow uni's?

I have heard that the majority of kids will draw from Conner. The paper said bringing the student pop. down at Conner to around 1100 and Ryle down to 1200. The new school is being built to hold 1100 students and starting pop. to be around 850. Kinda silly I think when the majority of the land out that way is still to be developed and numbers only to rise. Maybe a fifth high school is on its way ????? or another set of redistricting nightmares!
