  1. That "should" do it for the Rams....just hang on to that ball!! Even if Raceland has to turn the ball over on downs, it's highly unlikely Russell will be able to score with so little time left....The devils just arent built for speed.
  2. You wont be my first devil to convert...now, take a deep breath and think of a happy place....
  3. What's so sad about that? :laugh:If you insist.......bend over.:walk: As for this game....Rams upset LCA and take the victory.
  4. I would be exceptionally disheartened if I thought the Tomcats would not come out with a vengeance against MC…I prefer to believe they will respond well in this upcoming contest. This season still has many opportunities to win and advance…I hope Ashland’s team realizes that and leaves what has already happened where it belongs....in the past.
  5. Not so fast my friend….. 3 out of the past 4 years….Boyd has gone into the Greenup game with 6 losses and either one or zero victories…and….each of those years, they jumped up and beat the Muskies. Over the past few seasons, we have heard lots of hype about “this year’s team” from our Greenup Co friends only to see that team wilt as the season progresses…then maybe having a strong showing late in the year, which…in turn…spawns new hope for next year…and the cycle continues. My point is this…GC should win this game, but history indicates they are ripe for an upset. I don’t know if Boyd can take advantage of this or not…and goodness knows I really don’t want to be in a position of promoting Lion football…but, bless their hearts…they need all the help they can get. Boyd Co – 14 Greenup Co - 13 Sombody pass me the rolaids....I think Im going to throw up.
  6. Prior to the Ironton fiasco, I believed Ashland would give JC all they could handle. However, with what I witnessed back on September 17th, I’m not so sure. My wavering opinion is not based on talent and speed these two teams share, but on the amount of HEART the Tomcats have. It’s easy to keep a positive attitude when you’re winning, but how will Ashland respond to possibly falling behind on the scoreboard and all the momentum is with Central? Anxiously awaiting this game…it will tell much about whether or not Ashland is a contender or pretender within the District.
  7. Something tells me Fairview is in for a very rude wakeup call tonight…
  8. Good comparison, in terms of geography and otherwise as well. Personally, I think this has all the makings of a tremendous rivalry. Both are solid programs with a rich and prideful tradition. If a “local” game didn’t interest me, I would travel the distance to see the Red Devils and Blackcats go at it.
  9. Running Back, Trey Rogers, left the game late with an akle injury...the severity of which was unknown last night. Also, I believe Shannon Justice was ejected thereby qualifying him for a single game suspension.
  10. Congratulations Rams! Very sorry to hear about the Risner injury…get well soon young man.
  11. Let’s not leave out the Ironton band was better too. Literally, from the opening kickoff until the final horn, it was all Ironton. The Tigers have a very nice team and those kids most definitely wanted this game more. I will leave it to others to talk about stats and strategies, etc…but in a nut shell…Ironton played like a team determined to win. Congrats to those cross river rivals (and I do hope this becomes a rivalry again). As for the Tomcats, keep your heads up. There is much more football to be played in this young season. One thing I anxiously await is seeing how these Cats bounce back. See you next year AshlandOil. :thumb:
  12. Graybeard may have additional information, but Kyle Wessell may very well be out for the season. It was almost one year to the date of last weeks game that Kyle sustained a season ending knee injury...although this is not that same knee, it looks to be the same type of injury. Kyle is an outstanding young man and I especially hate to hear this news considering this is his senior year.
  13. I can only guess Ryan, but, I would be surprised if this Ashland squad looks at anything other than getting better and their next opponent. Confidence is growing though.
  14. Other than the coaches and players, I don’t believe ANYONE saw this coming…and it may have even surprised some of that group. Coach Hart has mentioned several times that if Ashland can get some aspects of their game tweaked just a tad, they could be very good. Last night, we saw some of that come together. Moving on though…district play is just around the corner for both of these squads and that’s when the W’s and L’s have significantly greater meaning. Russell will get back on a winning track next week and still will challenge for their District and Ashland needs to focus on getting ready for Ironton. A couple of side notes….spindoc….your observation about “yukking it up on the sideline” really hit home with me. That sort of disrespect for the game, well….I would be suspended if I typed what I really thought of it. However, this is the first season under Hart’s tenure that I have NOT seen that sort of thing coming from the Ashland sidelines. Granted, in years past, that behavior was typically witnessed coming from non-starters but there is nothing like that taking place on our sidelines right now. Everyone in pads seems very focused and I see lots of communication, care and commitment amongst these kids. Last but certainly not least…Kyle Wessell, Ashland’s starting center, suffered a knee injury last night. It was almost this time last year that Kyle sustained a season ending knee injury. Hang in there Kyle and we hope to see you back very soon.
  15. WELCOME BACK RAMBLER!! Your return has got to be worth at least 7 points for the Rams....with that in mind, I predict a Raceland victory on Friday night.
  16. Actually Loyal…..Greenup Co already obliged Ashland with that critique….Adjustments were made during the GC game and then tested against Raceland. Run-happy Belfry, however, will be a valid test to see how much the Tomcat D has improved.
  17. Although the message is not all that challenging to decipher….I absolutely despise the “Git-r-done” phrase. How did we end up with the terms “gridiron” and “squibbing” a kick? You have started some interesting threads lately Ram......what shall we discuss next?...the "meaning of life"?
  18. At the risk of sounding blasé, it simply is what it is. Apparently, there just isn’t anyone who can or is willing to kick for the Tomcats. Also, I believe the coaches have recognized some sort of statistical justification in going for two and squibbing every kickoff (considering what they have to work with). It’s a bit ironic, however, because Coach Hart was responsible for re-energizing the kicking game when he came to Ashland. During his first year at the Tomcat helm, I witnessed field goals. That form of scoring opportunity had lain dormant in the Ashland program for so long I nearly forgot how many points a FG was worth. It’s worth mentioning too, that in Hart’s inaugural year with the Tomcats, he had a kicker (Chad Cook) which would typically put it in the end zone on kickoffs and had the accuracy to be a viable option for field goals. With the emphasis Ashland places on its soccer program, coupled with the success of football, it’s really a stretch of belief to think there isn’t a kicker somewhere on campus. Many of us arm chair coaches believe this approach to the kicking game will eventually catch up with the Tomcats and cost us a win…but then…that’s why I am a spectator and not a coach. Until a player comes forward, I will trust our coaches to make the decisions which give us the best opportunity for success.
  19. Ashland may very well win this game....but it WILL NOT be in point increments of 7...........start thinking 6's or 8's.
  20. :thumb:Thanks Doc:thumb: That's worth the annual BGP subscription rate alone!!
  21. It's kinda like a moth to a flame....I tried to resist, but somehow was drawn back into it. Several guys are stepping up to keep things rolling though and for that, I am very appreciative. Stopped by the field this game day morning and there is already a buzz around the place. This game has truly evolved into a darn good rivalry and its going to be a perfect night for football....cant wait for kickoff!
  22. So very true Doc...this site really isnt the same without him.
  23. There are some jobs you simply cannot quit or get fired from. The field is in very good condition (usually is for the first game) and should be a fast surface for Friday nights game. Historically, this thread would be on about page 20 by now....has this rivalry cooled off?
