With both in Class 2A District 8 for the next four years, does this matchup have the potential to be one of the better ones, especially in EKY? Or is the geography too great?

There's already quite a bit of history between the two teams.

 

The schools are ~ 1 1/4 hrs. apart, so I doubt distance will be too much of a problem.

Yes, it should be a great matchup. Both have a strong tradition, a good fan base that will definately travel any distance and fill the stands.

I think this will be a good rivalry as the 2 teams will most likely compete for the top spot in their new district on a yearly basis.

If Ashland and Johnson Central can be one, no reason that Russell vs. Prestonsburg can't.

Absolutely!! This can and will be . Just because they will be fighting for the district championship most years.

Personally, I think this has all the makings of a tremendous rivalry. Both are solid programs with a rich and prideful tradition. If a “local” game didn’t interest me, I would travel the distance to see the Red Devils and Blackcats go at it.

If I didn't have Friday night commitments, this is a game I would definitely like to attend. This has slobber knocker written all over it, oldrambler!!!!!!

Before I changed careers, I filmed the '93 playoff game between the Blackcats & the Devils at Russell for WOWK 13.

This will be a good rivalry again.
