What are your thoughts on this one?

It was a very close game last year at Belfry.

I think Ashland wins this one by 2 TDs.

The Tomcats seem to start out slow. But adjustments after the first qtr. seem to turn things around for the cats. The Tomcats seem to have a lot more speed then most schools in this area. So with the size along with the speed of the backs and a QB that doesn't hardly make any mistakes. I'll go with the tomcats in this battle. Don't know if Belfry is as good as in past years. Tomcats by 16.

Count me among the masses.

Ashland 27

Belfry 14

I think this will be a down year for Belfrey.

Ashland doesn't have a hard charging player like Josh Alber this year - but, they are faster. Rogers played well at Belfry last year. Now add Watts and Massey to the mix.

I'm sure Belfry will test the Tomcat run defense. It should be a good game.

Ditto

Tomcats 29

Belfry 14

Tomcats will either score 6 or 8 each trip. They won't hang an odd #.

I thought Varney had a lot to do with keeping it close last year. Ashland by two TDs sounds about right.

You must have seen them play before. A very good soccer school. And no kicker. Always going for the 2 pts.!! Last year was know exception. Why is that Graybeard, Painter ect...

You're right...I must have had one of those Snicker's "Error in Judgement" commercial moments...LOL.

I'm not sure. Maybe Coach Hart got tired of depending on soccer players. :D

At the risk of sounding blasé, it simply is what it is.

Apparently, there just isn’t anyone who can or is willing to kick for the Tomcats. Also, I believe the coaches have recognized some sort of statistical justification in going for two and squibbing every kickoff (considering what they have to work with).

It’s a bit ironic, however, because Coach Hart was responsible for re-energizing the kicking game when he came to Ashland. During his first year at the Tomcat helm, I witnessed field goals. That form of scoring opportunity had lain dormant in the Ashland program for so long I nearly forgot how many points a FG was worth. It’s worth mentioning too, that in Hart’s inaugural year with the Tomcats, he had a kicker (Chad Cook) which would typically put it in the end zone on kickoffs and had the accuracy to be a viable option for field goals.

With the emphasis Ashland places on its soccer program, coupled with the success of football, it’s really a stretch of belief to think there isn’t a kicker somewhere on campus.

Many of us arm chair coaches believe this approach to the kicking game will eventually catch up with the Tomcats and cost us a win…but then…that’s why I am a spectator and not a coach. Until a player comes forward, I will trust our coaches to make the decisions which give us the best opportunity for success.

I notice that BGP has Belfry ranked 4th in 3A this week. That means they are good. I'm surprised that no one is picking Belfry in this poll.
