It depends, what would the rules be for speed-golf?

Touchy aren't we? I'm just trying to get a feel for this argument, because it's intriguing. I normally never bother trying to cite my sources, because I either don't care (I feel sorry that you do, and so much. Seeing that I'm one of 5 people that disagrees with you, how good will you feel if you win this argument, really?), or because I don't really need to. I think golf is too slow-paced to be considered a sport.

Is that the best argument YOU have? The definition of golf according to The Free Dictionary is "a game played on a large open course with 9 or 18 holes; the object is use as few strokes as possible in playing all of the holes." According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary it's "a game in which a player using special clubs attempts to sink a ball with as few strokes as possible into each of the 9 or 18 successive holes on a course." Notice that neither say "SPORT". I don't really feel the need to argue further after GulfCoastTyrant's post. The only thing I would argue with his post is that golf does require training, essentially, but otherwise, I'm in line with him.

Goodness, I was just pointing that out as the reason why I didn't LIKE it... nowhere have I said "I think golf is boring, and BECAUSE OF THAT I think it is not a sport." Just like I never said it wasn't challenging. I also have NOT stated that: Only old people play golf Only rich people play golf Only dumb people play golf Only boring people play golf ..I figured I should get those out of the way before somebody accuses me of saying those things, too. I'll join the "golf is a sport" side, so long as EVERYONE agrees with me that NASCAR is in fact NOT a sport, and racecar drivers, while physically tough, are NOT to be considered 'athletes', but simply 'racecar drivers'.

Actually, the fact that I don't like it (and really, my biggest beef is that back when I watched tv, I didn't have cable, and they'd be showing golf on half the channels... I don't care what anyone thinks about it, watching golf on television is the most boring thing in the world to me) has nothing to do with me basis for it not being a sport in my eyes. My comparisons were simply this: I see golf as belonging in the same category as foosball and DDR- games, not sports. As far as golf videogames go, it's totally understandable that they'd make a videogame based off of it. They make bowling games, too, but would you call bowling a sport? If you would, that's fine and dandy, I just disagree.

Okay, it's been a while since I checked up on this thread, and my position has not changed. Allow me to compare golf with foosball. Because unlike golf, I LOVE foosball. But foosball is a GAME, not a SPORT. If you play long enough, you can even break a sweat in foosball. Foosball comes naturally to me, but since I beat the heck out of most people I play, I think it's safe to say that it's not EASY (for them at least). The fundamentals are, but it takes some practice. It's still a GAME. Now, to compare golf to something that I like even LESS than golf- Dance Dance Revolution. It's a videogame that basically has a machine tell you which of four square pads to step on. I have watched some ridiculously SICK people play this game at maybe 400 steps a minute (I don't know if that's literal or not, but either way, these guys are FAST). It's not easy. I still wouldn't call DDR a sport. For the record, I have not once declared golf to be easy. I just see it as a game. I see golfers as golfers, not athletes (not to say they aren't in very good physical shape... I'm sure Tiger Woods could beat the heck out of some professional athletes).

Just not enough physical activity, no real teamwork. Sure, you COULD break a sweat if it's warm out, and you COULD count caddies, or maybe partners as teammates, but it's not necessary to enjoy the game. Like I said, I'm not trying to harsh on golf (though in reality, I don't care about it), I just don't see it as a sport.

I call it a game, not a sport (like foosball, or lawn darts). I mean, by definition, lots of things are sports, as exemplified by 98NCCalum, but I just don't put it in the same category as football, basketball, baseball, etc. I guess you could say it's like a "B-sport". Not to say it doesn't require skill, because it sure does, but it's not the same as the A-sports.

You can easily put Trinity as the Top Gun of the Big 3, but that's not going to dispose of the threat X and Male make to all of the other teams they play.

To improve, they just need to do what every team does, and work on the fundamentals and gain some strength and speed. Their brains ought to be good enough to get the plays down. Also, as stated many times before by different posters, they need to BELIEVE. A little faith can take this team a long way. I don't see Manual as being on many radars this year, however they won't be as underestimated as they were this past season.

So we're talking about prior to 1959? I'll take a stab: 1. Male 2. Manual 3. St. X

I HIGHLY doubt that. No disrespect to the Lexington teams, but I just don't think the Big 3 will be sinking very far, if at all. PRP will become a question mark, considering how dissappointing they were this season, although they SHOULD improve. I completely agree about Male. They'll likely be at the bottom of the Big 3. Maybe they'll even take a couple of surprise losses (hopefully from Manual). But then again, Redman has the sick ability to come up with a superstar or two out of nowhere. Manual has some beasts returning, so I'm really interested to see what kind of season they'll be having.

That'll be a good one for Trinity but I'm going to miss that series for Manual.

I don't keep up with Manual basketball, but good to see them win!

I hope Manual scrimmages them again. They seem to help each other out quite a bit.

I would, too... ...mostly because I think Manual would win. Let the stones be thrown, if you feel you must. I am VERY curious about next year for Manual. I've seen great young overachievers turn into great experienced underachievers. I'm hoping for something better.

But they're the only kind that fit! I wouldn't rag Male for whatever decision they make, it's just personally, I'd go if were at the Pizza Box, and I'll pass if it's at Male. I'm sure the biggest concern of Male is whether I'll show up or not.:lol:

That's sure one of the factors. :lol: But if the game is anywhere near the size of a Male-Manual game (I'm guessing it'll be quite bigger, actually), then that's just begging for claustrophobia. I can't make it through a Male-Manual game at Maxwell Stadium without accidently stepping on about 1000 people.
