Kentucky high School teams since 1959 have won state championships in a playoff system, capturing a class title (originally A, AA, AAA). However, different class champions may claim that they were the best team in the state. Prior to 1959 there was a champion based upon whatever system you may prefer, such as polls or mathematical formula. One such formula is the Lietkenhous Rating.
