Biggest KY Football Story in 2006

Featured Replies

What was the biggest football story or stories in KY for 2006?

What items made the biggest impact on the sport? What were the more memorable or most endearing stories? What are your picks?

Where do these rank?

KHSAA adopts new 6 class football alignment?

KHSAA shakes up playoff format in first two rounds?

Mercer County and Harrodsburg merger results in 2A State Championship?

Newcath’s comeback in championship game for repeat 1A title?

Johnson Central, Bethlehem, Raceland's season?

Doug Beaumont, Nick Petrino, John Cole's season successes?

Something else?

I know the topic can be argued due to them being placed into 2A which was unfair to the rest of 2A but that's a thread of it's own. The Mercer/Hburg merger definately has to be the top story of 2006. It's all too familiar, 2 schools combine, form a juggarnaut, win the state in convincing fashion, and named the Titans. Remember the Titans. 2006 was the year of the Titan!

The great season of Johnson Central. They have been building to this level under Matney, but they arrived on the statewide scene in 2006 and earned respect. Soild team who answered the doubters after undefeated regualar season with a good playoff run.

What are your nominations for the top football stories in our state for 2006?

All these sories are big for KY football in 2006.

ofcourse Raceland's seasons was big for me personally, but I would have to say the biggest story in KY this year is the new 6 class allignment. This will have an affect of Ky football for many years to come.

Woodford County season was big to me 8-4 Dist. runnersup and beating 10-0 Lafayette in the frist round of the playoffs.

I think the new 6 class system adopted by the KHSAA was the biggest story by far. It has the biggest impact on the sport.

The public/private debate and movement to separate them is a closely related second place. If it had been adopted would be the biggest story of the last decade, or maybe ever in KY HS Football.

The public/private debate has to big the biggest topic w/the new 6 class alignment running a very close 2nd.

Trinity High School (Shamrocks) set record for most state titles 17.

The BIGGEST story of the year is COVCATH beating Highlands TWICE !! Watch out for Haley's Comet !!!...........easy!! just a joke!!!
