Lincoln County '07

The Patriots will have to replace 9 Seniors from the 2006 team including running back Braxton Miller who rushed for 1,504 yards and 18 touchdowns AND Trent Calhoun who rushed for 1,393 yards and 23 touchdowns.

Thats a combined 2,897 rushing yards and 41 touchdowns lost to graduation which is going to be very hard to replace. In addition, they lose Kelly Reed (WR/DB), Jake Elliott (LB/C), Donovan Dishon (G/T), Corey Mason (C/DE), Jonathan Priddy (T/T), Jared Hardwick (WR/S) and Jake Johnson (TE/DE).

However, the junior quarterback, Levi Rogers, and several receivers (Kody Reed, Ryan Young, etc.) return offensively.

Lincoln County will be in District 7 in Class 5A under the KHSAA's new alignment for 2007-2008. The other district teams are Mercer County, Pulaski County, South Laurel and Southwestern.

Lincoln County finished 2006 with a record of 10-2 and was knocked out of the playoffs in the second round of the playoffs by GRC 28-27 in overtime.

The Offense scored 426 points for a school record average of 35.5 points per game. The defense game up only 165 points or 13.75 per game.

Lincoln County participated in Class AAA from the schools origins in 1974 through the 2004 season. Lincoln County was in Class 4A during the 2005 and 2006 seasons. During that time, Lincoln County was 15-7 overall and 11-5 versus district opponents. While I am unsure of the six non-district opponents, the four district opponents will be like this:

Mercer County

2006 Class: 2A

2006 Record: 15-0 (2A State Champion)

This matchup has the potential to be the most exciting rivalry of them all. The two schools are about 20 miles apart and are part of the Danville economic area, for lack of a better term.

Lincoln's coach, Larry French, was the head coach at Mercer County for 15 years before moving to Meade County. He has been at Lincoln County for two seasons.

Mercer's coach, Marty Jaggers, was the head coach at Lincoln County for six season from 1991-1996. He left LC after the 1996 season and was an assistant at Danville High School from 1997-2003 before taking the job at Mercer County.

Series History: Lincoln County leads the 7 game series 6 games to 1.

Pulaski County

2006 Class: 3A

2006 Record: 2-9 (lost in 1st round to Southwestern 48-12)

Series History: Lincoln County leads the 9 game series 5 games to 4.

South Laurel

2006 Class: 4A

2006 Record: 3-7 (did not make playoffs)

Series History: South Laurel leads the 3 game series 2 games to 1. Lincoln County won the 2006 meeting 56-7.

Southwestern

2006 Class: 3A

2006 Record: 9-4 (lost in Regional Finals to Louisville Central 47-40)

Series History: Lincoln County has never beaten Southwestern in 5 tries.

Lincoln Co. I believe opens the season with (what will be) Class 2A Bardstown in the Woodford County Bowl.

Barring unforseen circumstance, Bardstown will return 7 offensive and 5 defensive starters from this year's 11-1 squad.

Lincoln County has opened in its own Bowl Game since 1998. Is the Woodford County Bowl the second week?

I believe Lincoln County plays Bell County in the Death Valley Bowl on opening week, with Garrard County playing Washington County in the other game. Should be two pretty good games.

Those two have never met in a game but used to scrimmage together at Feltner 4-H camp in Laurel County. Bell County will be a real challenge for the Patriots.

I hope its a good game. As for Garrard/Washington, ask anyone around Lancaster about the playoff loss in 1991. But that's another thread.
