As for Coach Mills I have not heard anything about his plans. I did hear that he was going to work with some kids in the weight room. This may be old news, but it has been confirmed that Berea will not participate in district play in 07 & 08. It would be good for the kids and the program to get things done as soon as possible. Plus out of respect for Coach Mills, allow him to move on with what ever direction he choses to take. I don't look for them to move to swiftly though...

I know this situation quite well and I would estimate that in the last 15 years there have been few if any instances of this happening and the few I can think of the kid was at the respective school to begin his 9th grade year. Has there been any official word about whether Berea will compete in district play next season? I know the alignment had them in a District with Lynn Camp, Williamsburg, Campbellsville and Clinton County. If they will not compete for the District, who would they potentially play in place of these teams?

It appears the Head Coaching Job at Berea HS is open again. (Per the KHSAA website) I know there was some talk a while back about Berea either not playing a District Schedule or not playing a Varsity Schedule. Anyone have any details as to what has happened? What are the schools intentions?

Actually there have been 3. Mike McNabb the current Coach at Rockcastle Middle School took over for Stepp for 2 years prior to the hiring of Todd Harris. There have been 4 different Head Coaches there since Anthony Barsch left after the 1997 season. I hate to see the Program falling to this level because I know Coach Mills has put an incredible effort into the program, as have many other coaches, both head coaches and assistants, as well as all the kids who have come through there in the last 15 years. I will always remember the year that we took 13 healthy players to play Beechwood in the first round of the 1996 playoffs, then got a return trip in 1997. Thank goodness Mike Yeagle and his staff were running a very classy program during that time. Aaron Stepp did as good a job at Berea as anybody could have while he was there. It seems after he left, most of the support left too. Good Luck to Coach Mills and the Players at Berea. Keep fighting for your program. It is worth it.

I know that....... 1. GRC returns a lot of solid athletes and could be tough with the "new" QB. 2. I have seen the Lincoln Co. RB's and they are a nice tandem, Coach Wells will do a good job with the line, that will be key. 3. South Laurel has some quality tools for Coach Chappell to work with and depending on how quickly they mesh together could be successful. 4. North Laurel returns a strong core group and with Asher and a couple others being used the way I suspect they will be used, will be solid as well. 5. Whitley Co will be an exciting place this year with Coach Black and it will be interesting to see how the kids make the transition. 6. Montgomery Co. improved fundamentally more than any other team in the district last year, and if they can continue making those strides, success is right around the corner. 7. Madison Central has ........:sssh: :sssh: :walk: ;) Well, we'll see how it goes. I know that this district improves top to bottom every year and the balance will be better this year that any other year for this group. The work that is going on NOW will be a large factor in what happens in the fall. Now if you will excuse me...... We have to get back at it.

Chappell was an Assistant at Madison Central in 2000 and 2001 before being an Assistant at Tates Creek for one year in 2002, then taking on the PCC job in 2003.

Without question, both programs improved under those coaches. Given the right support and hiring of the new HC and staff, South could be ready to take the next step.

What is the reason behind Coach Irwin stepping down?

I do believe that Mr. Muntz is trying to do what is best for the program. I am afraid his hands may be tied though.

It is a strange situation. No one seems to be hearing anything. It is nearly April and they still presumably do not have a head coach.

Go visit successful programs/coaches who you believe have systems in place that will work where you are. Look at as many as you can.

Just trying to spark some conversation around this topic.....Again. I know they did some interviews at the end of last week and early this week. Are they any closer to actually hiring a Head Coach though?

Madison Central plays 6 teams on this list and 4 of the top 11 teams are already on the schedule. When the post season comes, the Indians will run into several top teams.

Scott County will have a very solid team coming back and could make it to the finals. They have to be the favorite out of Region 4 going in. But don't be surprised if there are some very tough battles (surprises?) in the Regional Playoff rounds.

I was just wondering why your team may not be able to have spring practice. Spring Ball is a great time to focus on the fundamentals and drills that need to be focused on. It is a great opportunity for Linemen in particular and for young kids to demonstrate how much they have improved over the off season.

I believe that this is an excellent post. To add to it, you can never really simplify this down to pinpoint it, but there are some definite root causes. Namely, Love and Money. Money is certainly a key issue. It takes far more money to adequately fund a football program and yet the are instances all over the state where the Basketball budgets are Greater than or Equal too the Football budgets. Schools (Public Schools anyway) are restricted heavily on how the money can be divided up. In many cases it is not that the B-Ball budget is overly large but that the Football but is small. Further, people go absolutely crazy for Basketball. It must have something to do with why Rupp got the Caddy and Bear got the watch.... or maybe it goes beyond that. Who knows. Every kid that is a good athlete that comes out of middle school playing multiple sports is convinced that he is going to wear the Big Blue (or Cardinal Red) and live the Round Ball dream. Sometimes this idea is perpetuated by Parents, sometimes by Coaches, sometimes by the kids themselves.

Any word on Bourbon Co. interviews coming up?

I thought that Middle would be the logical place considering the construction at the 2 main spots. Haven't they completed some renovations down there as well?
