HS Football Coaches

Featured Replies

Already several coaches have resigned this year. I don't know the reason behind any of the resignations.

Coaching HS football is a great job, but very demanding - especially emotionally. The demands come from wanting the best for you players, wanting to be successful/fear of failure, and fighting the distractions and obstacles that you must deal with constantly- in the offseason as well as in season.

Many of my friends are some of the finest men and HS football coaches in this state. They do their jobs and are motivated by serving young men and their community. Their reward is to see their kids do well- on the field, in the classroom, as adults, etc. That is really all they want.

Having said that, they also really appreciate when someone- a player, parent, fan, administrator, etc. simply says thank you. If your team had a poor won-loss record, chances are your coach worked harder than any season before. When your team is not good, coaches spend extra time finding a way to win, like looking for a needle in a haystack. Very tough to find, and very time consuming, but coaches do that because they love their kids and want them to be successful.

A very wise and incredibly successful HS football coach in our state told me one time that alot of coaches end up leaving their school because they are unappreciated.

Whether or not your coach has resigned, it will be worth your time to find him and say thanks for giving it a great effort, and caring for our kids. It will mean alot to that coach, and may even encourage him to hang in there during a time when he feels like he is spinning his wheels and is not making any progress.

I know this is an unusual post, but maybe it will make a difference for a coach somewhere. I also appreciate theguru and all his efforts to allow us to have this forum, but also keep things professional and a positive for HS athletics.

Merry Christmas!

Excellent post

Well if he reads this thread I would like to thank Steve Jewell at Corbin. He has a very good career record, and had a roller-coaster ride of a season last year. I know he works very hard to keep the Redhounds on track...So thank you coach as a former player and now as a fan/spectator.

ChiefSmoke,

You are right on point. Coaches give up so much of their family and personal time. Although, most do forget, we all need to say A BIG THANK YOU to our daughters and sons coaches. Merry Christmas to you and your family as well. Great post.:thumb:

Great post by a first class coach!:thumb:

:thumb: This is one of the best post on BGP. Great post by a guy who knows.

This is just a thought.......to those coaches who feel down or unappreciated....remember that those coaches who seem to be above the clouds also have their own faults. I am not saying that anyone is perfect but larger than life coaches sometimes seem to forget about the little coaches whom they really couldn't do without. Not every year is a winner and not every year will be a loser. But each of you contribute something different and more impressive than the next. One man cannot take the blame alone.

This is one of the best if not the best post ever. It comes from a man that is nothing but class and his entire program takes on that class. Great Post, Great Coach, Great Man, Great Friend. You never try to imitate anyone but you do attempt to emulate people that are successful. I am sure I am not the only one that attempts to emulate Coach Buchanan. As usual, even with this post Coach B has done a tremndous job. Hats off to you and all of the coaches in any sport. They miss birthdays, anniversaries, Thanksgivings (on the great years), and never ask for anything other than the opportunity to make a difference. The late nights, weekend staff meetings, early mornings, camps, 7 on 7's, summer practices, and double sessions. Thanks to all that dedicate so much time and effort for the youth of today. And a special thanks to ChiefSmoke.

When I kept hearing about NKY HS coaches resigning I was hoping ours wasn't going to. But Roy Lucas at Lloyd Memorial resigned monday, I don't really know why though.

:thumb: Nice Post!!!

If Coach Koogler of Leslie County reads this then I want to thank you for every thing you have done for the program & myself & I know you work very hard at your job, night in & night out & I just want to say thanks.
