I will say this, next year when the KHSAA rolls into town, the KHSAA will be the ones who determines who gets passes and who sits where, including the floor. Just like they do at any venue where they have an event. So why can't the 9th region? This is not a BK issue as it is a 9th region issue. I'll just leave it at that.

Good thing they are off on Thursday, looks like we will be getting a bit of snow and very clod temps again Wednesday night.

I agree Mustang, it's a very simple and logical solution, BUT..... It is the BOK, they don't seem to like those kinds of solutions.

I say ask the only 1A team to beat BW several times since the 6 class set up about this, no one can argue that they would know best. Uhh, OK, then since the beginning of the 6 class set up, who else in 1A besides MF and Frankfort has beaten BW?

Unbelievable! PaNDA and others do ALL of the fans a HUGE service! Just as Guru and his crew at other H.S. events! People like paNDA do not only shot for one school, they get GREAT shots for all of the teams. I say besides emailing and calling the BOK, to do the same to your school and coaches, and anyone who has any say with the 9th region, maybe they can tell the BOK that "this is how it will be". The BOK should not have control over issues like this. If I pay to hold an event at the BOK, I WILL be the one who makes the decisions like this, or at least "my people", not the BOK. The one who rents the space has to have the say in these matters. I am not thrilled about the parking cost, they could cut that in half, it will get more people to show up, this is the BOK, not Rupp! Also, Myself and a few other BGP'ers with a cooler full of beer could do A LOT better job at directing the traffic before and after these events, did those people take any courses on how to direct traffic at a small event? (It's small compared to many others elsewhere). Now they want to create more issues for the fans? They could make the scorers table a little longer and at least allow for two people for each school to broadcast if that school does a live broadcast. And room for two more people for 1 live radio/web broadcast that is not affiliated with a school. As far as photographers, they should allow at least one still camera and one video camera per school to be on the floor. As Wireman stated, it's a lot easier to get on the floor at Rupp to do the Sweet 16, and you are dealing with a heck of a lot more people both in the stands and on the floor. But again, Rupp has an organization that runs the place A LOT better than at the BOK. Count me in as one who will email the BOK and this guy, and maybe even make a few calls to each other TV stations. If we get enough to do this, as in the past, they will cave! Maybe if they can attend one H.S. event at Cintas they can take notes on how to run a first class H.S. event. I sure hope that the KHSAA tells the BOK what will happen and what will not happen at THEIR event when the girls Sweet 16 comes there in a year. Some of this may fall on the 9th region for not demanding that they are in charge or THEIR event.

But there is no excuse for yelling racial slurs. If I were the KHSAA I would make sure that the offending school got the message that it will not be tolerated.

I just bought my third Satellite a couple of months ago, 17" something screen, Skullcady sound is really good.

Not a Trinity fan but I think it's comparing apples to oranges. One is a very successful coach with state titles under his belt, and from what I know, there is not much turmoil between the coach and school/players/parents. The other had did not have a state title and his team seemed to have fell apart at times this past year, and then he had a lot of turmoil. If you are winning state titles and also have a good relationship with the bosses/players/parents, you tend to have more leeway. He is not applying to get away from a problem either.

And as PP92 mentioned, there needs to be more variables. Is the kid good enough to play on an "A" team? Or is it that the player and (most likely) the parent thinks they are better than what the are? Is the "B" team just a second team in the age group or is the "B" team less competitive? And as was mentioned, do they attend the same tourneys as the "A" team? I have seen players on all teams that just want to play, but their parents are aggravating them so much that they get burnt out that way, we all have seem some of those parents. Then you have someone like PP92 with his frosh son, he is honest as he says he doesn't know how good his son is, and it taking a wait and see approach with the tryouts and already has a plan if he doesn't make the squad. Some others are fine with playing on a local team (if they are in that area) and playing in local tourneys, others do not mind playing for a team an hour or so away. But as Manny stated, even if a kid is on a team, even a big team from a big organization, they player needs to work on his game on his own, even if it's just locally. Heck, there was a kid at top my street shooting outside in a driveway by himself, when I came back from eating about 30 minutes later, he was still there. I am not saying that all kids need to do this, but it does take work away from your team and coach.

Some thoughts on Manny's post. As you said about parents (as well as players) being realistic. Some parents just don't want to be realistic with their kid and play along. When we started in 1992 were about the first AAU "club team" in the state (before that it was the junior semi pro stuff). There were about 38 teams in the tourney in Franklin Co/ Frankfort, and we were the only "club team", all of the other teams were high school teams, It has become more of an issue in recent years with some parents not being realistic, many allow their kids to play for more than a couple teams per season, if they don't like the PT on one team, or how many times their kid touches the ball, or is able to shoot, then they go to another team the next week, then they do it again the following week. This just shows 1) they didn't do their homework 2) and/or they are not being realistic. Not all players who play for even the big programs will go onto college to play ball, just look at an organization such as Shining Stars. But it happens everywhere, for a number of reasons. I am sure that you have seen this too, but I have had casual conversations with players and their coaches about upcoming tourneys, some were not even aware of a state tourney, or such tourneys as the Adidas tourney that used to be at UC, and these players and coaches were from this state or region. I haven't coached in 2 years as I have been busy, but I still do things for FIBA and for Euro players, so I don't know if you still take your teams to Fort Wayne every summer? How could a coach not know of this tourney regardless if he intends to go to it or not? I am not sure how long you have been around, but it's been several years, I am sure you have seen it too where many teams will be around for a year, maybe 2, and some 3 years, then they are gone for good. Parents who want to coach their sons and many (not all) want to make their son the star, or people who want to coach and start teams, only to realize they do not have the time needed to put into it, or they decide that they don't want to coach anymore. About 3 years ago I had several parents contact me after a team folded. said that they were mislead about the upcoming year. You on the other hand, have been around awhile, so people pretty much know that you will still be hear and that you are not only coaching to get a son more minutes and more touches. That is one thing I would look for, who is this team and how long have they been around? Do I plan on my kid being on this team/program for 2 or 3 years? If so, will this team still be here in a year or two? If not, will they help my kid find a new team? Unfortunately the players/parents who contacted me a couple of years ago didn't have any help from the team that folded on finding a new team. But as you and I both mentioned, the parents need to do their homework. People lie, and lie a lot, and their are some coaches I would not want to be around let alone letting kids be around them. Confirm the schedule of all of the teams in that organization and make sure that the team that your son is on will go to the tourneys that you expect them to attend. What do the cost cover? And what players/how many players a team has had that when on to play ball in college (and what division) really doesn't mean everything as some may think, as those players are not your son! Just because a team/organization has lets say 20+ past players play at D1 schools doesn't mean your son will play D1. I have had more than my fair share of players who went on to play college, some D1, but people shouldn't try to compare teams/organizations just based on this alone, again, as those players are not your son! Having said that, unless I decide to come back to coach (actually this week just turned down a very good deal to start my team up again, but I have other commitments) I would look at a team such as Mannys to send my son to, his team has been around long enough, they are fair, and honest people, who care about their players.

I have to disagree that spring and summer ball is just about exposure. But if the kid and his family thinks that he is good enough to be on an "A" team, then they have options. Would the player and parent want to be placed on the A team and possibly not play as much? Or the B team and play a heck of a lot more? But as has been stated, there are a number of teams that have more than one team per age group. And what also has been mentioned, if the player and parents do their homework before hand, they will know what tourneys a certain team will attend, be it a program with one team, one team per age group, or more than one team per age group.

Which is why I stated in the other thread was a stupid thing for the KHSAA to say. First, how did they expect to pack two days of wrestling into one day? Second, why would they think that another group would want to reschedule? Three, with the youth wrestling, the wrestlers will get there by car with parents and many coaches, not by busses, most, if not close to all will show up. BUT, with the weather due here this weekend, many schools still would not have sent out busses for a Sunday event. Let's say they KHSAA got what they claimed that they attempted to do (with a Sunday event), and they still had many people not being able to attend or they had to reschedule it yet again, it wouldn't have looked good for them at all. The schedule now is almost perfect! except being mid-week. But, it gives a few weeks for this weather pattern to break. The KHSAA should be glad that the Horse Park was able to accommodate them in a few weeks. Hopefully all of the wrestlers will stay on top form.

Yes, I know. But with the weather expected this weekend, it will still be almost impossible for many school busses to get there.

These days that would be tough to do. One reason being, so many people move. I never did like the term "home grown".

Agreed! There was no reason for the KHSAA to attempt to blame another party. Plus, with the expected weather this weekend, it will still be difficult for all competitors and schools to be there if they come in a school bus.

The roads are pretty much clear now are they not? With the possibility of snow on Friday night, Friday and Saturday may be a wash as well.
