  1. To quote the great Rick Flair, "To be the man, you gotta beat the man." That's exactly how Red Devil fans feel about BG. While EVERYONE in Owensboro is sick of losing to Bowling Green, OHS fans' have a healthy respect for the Purps and what they've been able to accomplish over the past 10 years. I'm not going to get into a detailed breakdown of this game, and I'm not going to give any locker room material for coach Wallace. BG is BG and even this regular season game won't mean a ton in terms of who runs 5A. BG is still on top until someone dethrones them in the playoffs. I've watched BG's games against PRP and St. X on YouTube. Kenner and Tisdale are as good of a 1-2 punch as you'll find in the state. QB is solid and there are good athletes at other positions as well (LB #36 is nice). However, I'll be surprised if BG wins by a huge margin. This Red Devil team is getting better every time they step on the field and have playmakers of their own on both sides of the ball. I'm not ready to call an OHS win just yet, but I think you're gonna start seeing Owensboro's middle school success against BG start to manifest itself very soon at the varsity level. Bowling Green 28 Owensboro 21
  2. I'm not saying BG is recruiting. I actually think their success is making them a magnet for kids to want to be a part of. They see the success on the field or court, and kids want to come be a part of that. It's like when Highlands had it rolling. Those kids didn't all live in Fort Thomas, but the success of the Birds drew kids from the NKY area. I don't blame the kids and families at all. As an OHS guy, I just simply want us to raise our game to be able to get over the hump and bring that ship back to Owensboro. I may have a rivalry dislike for the Purps and Birds, but I respect how they elevated their game to get to the championship level. Lots of people don't realize how good Clark Payne was. He was the difference maker in the OHS-BG playoff game last year. I believe BG scored 4 times on 3rd and long via the pass. Payne was legit. Tisdale will probably be a top 10 or top 20 player nationally in his senior year. He basically already is ranked that high for his class. Tisdale and OHS' IMonte Owsley are very similar athletically, but Tisdale has the size advantage which is what colleges covet. It's hard to beat 6'2 190 lbs as a sophomore lol. Anyway, good luck to you guys (like ya'll need it lol). Maybe we can finally make ya'll sweat a little this year. :thumb:
  3. Having Kenner and Dingle really help lessen the blow from what could have been a bigger rebuilding job. I've been watching Tisdale since his middle school days, and the kid is the real deal. I think BG will be fine defensively since the Purples scheme is based on speed, which BG will still have plenty of. The season will come down to how the new QB can perform. Having a QB that can keep a defense honest is the difference between being a good team, and having the "next level" success. OHS has been missing that component for a few years and it's cost the Devils when they play BG. Tisdale will get his because he's that good, but the passing game will be crucial to the Purples success. Also, you have to wonder if BG will get any new transfers in. Without Dingle and Kenner, this season would be even more of a challenge. And you're right Purple Nation, nobody is going to feel sorry for BG, lol. I'm just hoping that Owensboro can parlay the middle school success against BG into some varsity wins at some point.
  4. Thanks for the response and best of luck to you all!
  5. Purple fans: just out of curiosity, how do you think OHS stacks up with Fern Creek? Oh and congrats on your state title once again. It's a formality at this point
  6. How many transfers does the BG basketball program have? Just curious.
  7. Execution and in game adjustments. Coach Edge is a master in game. OCath has a very good back in sophomore Von Williams and a solid QB in sophomore Will Warren. The Aces are very balanced on offense. If there is a weakness it's defensively but calling it a weakness isn't really correct. OCath is suseptible to the run and big play but a team better execute very well to hit those against the Aces. I'm not sure Murray has enough fire power to hang with the Aces. I already have an eye on next weeks showdown against Mayfield
  8. Don't expect much of a game against ohs next week. I think OHS has already pulled most of their best freshmen off the team. I know Owsley hasn't played freshman ball since the Male game. It will certainly be a depleted OHS freshman team.
  9. Neither team will challenge BG in the first round but I think Apollo has the best chance to play a more competitive game against BG. By competitive, I mean, maybe picking up a few first downs and eating some clock. It seems Apollos team speed is better than Marshalls but we'll find out next week
  10. I think this will be a good game. The end result will be Graves' ability to limit the big play from CC. Graves also has to sustain offensive drives and eat clock. I do think this will be a good game for a bit but CC has too many playmakers. CC 42 Graves 21
  11. This game on paper is going to be rough for Apollo. However, this is a city matchup and I think Apollo will put up a fight for a while. The Eagles have some playmakers in QB Brandon Alexander and WR Peyton Peters. Defensively Apollo struggles but I expect Apollo to put everyone they can in the box to try to stop the run. OHS has taken off since the coaching staff made the change offensively. QB Zach Gross looks more comfortable and the offense is becoming more productive since the change. OHS will look to run the ball right at Apollo and if the Eagles can't slow it down, it'll be a long night. Apollo will need a big game from DT Jace Southerland. Big picture: OHS should win this game, and the big game coming up is against Graves. That is the game for OHS that could trip them up as it almost did last season. Apollo will need to beat Marshall to make the playoffs. I think Apollo wins that game and makes the yearly trek to BG for the first round.
  12. I'd like to see that game played again without the 4tds from OHS called back due to penalties or bad calls lol. In all seriousness, CC is extremely talented and Catlett is as good of a playmaker as you'll find anywhere. I know he played youth football up here in Owensboro, and boy, I wished they'd have stayed. CC is a very good team with a ton of speed. Playing the Colonels in the playoffs isn't going to be fun for anyone. Apollo meanwhile had a rough game. Previously, the Eagles have put up a good fight against everyone, even South Warren. I think the toll of the season is wearing on Apollo, especially since the Eagles lack depth.
  13. I agree Purple88, OHS is playing solid. OHS coaches have made a great adjustment and its benefitted Zach Gross and OHS' offense greatly. I'll be keeping a close eye on the BG-Greenwood game here in a few weeks. BG will win but I want to see if Greenwood can keep it close as it appears that OHS will take on the Gators in the second round provided that OHS takes care of business against Apollo and Graves
  14. Yes, I totally forgot!! He's a special talent much like Vito at BG. Vito just has the size advantage which makes him uber recruitable for colleges. Monte has the speed and instinct but lacks the size but there is no doubt Monte will play college football somewhere
  15. Great effort by Hancock County. Most people thought this would be a running clock but credit the Hornets for putting up a fight. Catholic RB Vonn Williams rushed for 190 yards as OCath turned a 21-12 halftime advantage into a 38-11 win. I think the district schedule is getting OCath complacent with the level of opponents dramatically dropping. There is nothing OCath can do about that but the Aces are fighting to keep their edge as the playoffs near. A game to end the season against North Hardin should have the Aces primed heading into the post season.
  16. Solid win by OHS on the road. Business trip, business results. Landon Board did his thing by rushing for 143 yards on 4 carries. OHS qb Zach Gross had a solid game rushing for a td and passing for a td. OHS' defensive backs came away with 4 interceptions led by freshman Monte Owsley who returned one 60 yards to the house for his first varsity TD. OHS is in the drivers seat in the district and will host city rival Apollo next week.
  17. I think OHS wins the game but I could be closer than most think if OHS doesn't go down there with a business mentality. Marshall is much improved but the athletism of OHS will be too much
  18. It was a pleasure to call this game for Homers Radio last night. OHS took advantage of some great field position a few times and scored all their points on the ground, sans the Nick Brake field goal in OT. First I gotta give credit to OHS' offensive line for going against a stacked box all night and still finding positive yards. OHS senior QB Zach Gross played a solid game and made good decisions with his reads. FB Ray Ray Weaver had some nice yards up the middle and WR Trevor Washington kept the Colonel defense honest by taking some pitchouts from the backfield. OHS star RB Landon Board had a tough going but made it count when he took the pitch in double OT to the house on the first play for the win. Christian County has so many weapons and their offense is predicated on timing routs and getting speed in space. The rain made that very tough. I may be a Homer but I'm not a hater: Keyron Cattlett is the real deal. Give the CC coaches credit for moving Catlett around from WR to the backfield to keep OHS guessing. I also came away impressed with Major on defense as he has a nose for the ball and the closing speed to make his hits count. Also a shoutout to the CC kicker who hit two clutch field goals to extend the game. OHS defensively was very good all night with the exception of Catlett getting loose on the 80 yard td run. It was frustrating to see OHS keep getting touchdowns negated by iffy penalties and 50-50 spots. I could be wrong but I believe it was 4 on the night for OHS. Also gotta put the refs on blast for a big no no. OHS qb Zach Gross faked the whole defense out and kept the ball going left. Gross was 30 yards down the field with nobody around him headed to the end zone and the refs blew the whistle because they thought the fullback had the ball. Inexcusable. Credit to both teams for a hard fought game and now OHS is in the drivers seat in district, provided the Devils take care of business against Graves, Apollo, and Marshall.
  19. Many of OHS' best freshmen didn't play last night due to injury or moving up. OHS' freshmen lost a game to Male by 7 earlier this year when OHS had its players. I'm sure BG didn't play Tisdale either. This OHS freshman class is very good. This score is deceptive. Keep in mind, OMS swept BG in 7th and 8th grade football this season. Owensboros 8th grade class is NASTY. BG has their program rolling at the high school level, so no matter how much lower level success Owensboro has, BG will still be there with Wallace and his staff there
  20. I will say that Homers Radio has OCath #1 in their local team rankings and had video highlights from Friday's game as well as live audio broadcast. We haven't made a city champion graphic yet but I'm sure that's coming. Our contract with ODCYFL had us tied up this weekend and Homers Radio broadcaster 5 games from Waymond Morris Park this weekend. OCath is the real deal. Nick Mills is a speedster, Weston Jacob is a playmaker, Tre Green is fast, Von Williams is a stud, and Will Warren could be the next big QB in WKy. OCath is exceptionally coached, talented, and has a winning tradition. The Aces deserved the city title. They outplayed OHS a few weeks ago and took care of business against Apollo. Coach Edge has bigger fish to fry than a city title. His full attention is on the next game all the while having one eye on Mayfield.
  21. I honestly don't know about the Christian County game. I hope OHS can take care of business in district so that the Devils will have a chance to play BG again in the regional title game. If OHS can slow Christian Countys offense down I think OHS can win on the road. Christian has some terrific athletes so it'll be a tough task
  22. I caught some of the game in the Time Warner TV8 replay and I gotta say this: KUDDOS to the OHS coaching staff for making an adjustment to the offense that resulted in OHS being able to utilize the legs of QB Zach Gross. OHS jumped all over Daviess County as the running clock went into effect in the 2nd quarter. The Devils were without some starters on defense but Zeke Brown moved to linebacker and Freshman Monte Owsley filled in nicely at safety. Owsley and sophomore Aerion Phillips came up with interceptions. Gross looked so much more comfortable running the new offensive tweak as OHS' offense took off. It was only DC, but it was a good sign for OHS moving forward. After a bye week, OHS will travel to Christian County for a massive district showdown. It'll be interesting to see the trajectory of OHS moving forward. The young Devils defense is growing up and the offense may be coming around. DC on the other hand looked a bit overwhelmed and it's not going to get easier as the Panther host McCracken County this Friday. OHS took their feet off the gas when the clock started running. McCracken County probably won't.
  23. I'll be watching this game closely. I saw Hoptown vs OHS in the scrimmage before the season and came away very impressed with their team speed. Defensively, Hoptown is vulnerable so Christian County will have many chances to score. I think County has a better defense so I'll take the Colonels in a nail biter.
  24. I'm defense of the OHS coaches, they've had some really tough breaks when it comes to QB's going back a few years. I'll name a few: Deonte Douglas (Jr) only plays basketball now but played QB in middle school and is a dynamic athlete. Chandler Crite (soph) played qb in middle school and this kid was THE FUTURE. This kid could pass and run (i.e. Mariota). Crite transfers to Daviess County last year and they move him to WR. Now, he's moved to Tennessee and is doing well from what I've heard Nick Belcher (FR) played qb last year in middle school and can make about any pass you need. About 6'0 tall and is a good athlete. Tore his arm up playing summer baseball and is out the whole season. Hopefully will return next year Even Belcher's backups Braxton French who is also a freshman, tore his arm up playing baseball this summer. Kid is a fine athlete as well. I'm short, OHS has had about the worst luck when it comes to QBs as any team could possibly have. Good news is, OHS has an amazing amount of talent coming up. I look for some great things in the coming years. BG is great and they deserve their due. But Wallace knows that OHS has the jimmies and joes to run with the Purps. OHS has to prove they can matchup on the sidelines and pressbox. Jay Fallin is a young coach (2nd season) and I think he'll continue to get better and learn more as he goes along. I feel very confident about the future of OHS football against anyone. I'll go as far as saying that the OHS-BG winner in the west will determine the champ for years to come.
