Bowling Green has lost two straight, both to 6A teams PRP and St. Xavier. In unfamiliar territory at 1-2 the Purples now must welcome getting back to 5A hosting the 2-1 Owensboro Red Devils. Owensboro is coming off a 47-12 win over Owensboro Catholic. Has the playing field leveled enough for the Red Devils to get revenge on the Purples for two losses last year? Bowling Green won 47-0 in the regular season meeting in 2016, then knocked Owensboro out of the 3rd round of playoffs with a 50-21 victory.

BGHS is 37-38-2 vs. Owensboro. A Purples victory would put them at .500 in the series for the first time since 1945. BGHS has played no other team more often in its history.

Perhaps this game could be the most anticipated regular season game for the Purples in recent history. The big schools out of Tennessee and another game or two here and there, some may argue but this Friday night game is huge for BG.

A "must win" may be too big of a statement to make but that is how serious this game is for these young guys.

I, for one, am actually glad the Red Devils are riding high coming into this game. If BG wins in a convincing fashion would have to be a pretty big blow to Devils coaching staff. If 5A is going to make a run in taking title away from BG, it probably needs to happen this year. If BG wins in convincing fashion, I think most 5A teams knows beating them may not be as easy as they think.

To quote the great Rick Flair, "To be the man, you gotta beat the man."

That's exactly how Red Devil fans feel about BG. While EVERYONE in Owensboro is sick of losing to Bowling Green, OHS fans' have a healthy respect for the Purps and what they've been able to accomplish over the past 10 years.

I'm not going to get into a detailed breakdown of this game, and I'm not going to give any locker room material for coach Wallace. BG is BG and even this regular season game won't mean a ton in terms of who runs 5A. BG is still on top until someone dethrones them in the playoffs.

I've watched BG's games against PRP and St. X on YouTube. Kenner and Tisdale are as good of a 1-2 punch as you'll find in the state. QB is solid and there are good athletes at other positions as well (LB #36 is nice). However, I'll be surprised if BG wins by a huge margin. This Red Devil team is getting better every time they step on the field and have playmakers of their own on both sides of the ball. I'm not ready to call an OHS win just yet, but I think you're gonna start seeing Owensboro's middle school success against BG start to manifest itself very soon at the varsity level.

Good to see you back 58!!! I think this is a good post.

I think the score should be close. There is no denying the strong Frosh and Soph classes along Fredrica Street, but the Friday night field is a bit different than the Tuesday night field. That being said, O has the athletes to stay with BG for the most part. Could this be the game Imonte Owsley breaks out similar to the way Jamale Carothers did his Sophomore Season? He is capable.

BG with their injuries and losses and O with their victory last week sets this one up to be close. Other than turnovers, the QBs play will be huge in this game. Although I think O will have some success running the ball, there will come times when O will be asked to pass. That has not gone well the past couple years. How will Z Brown handle that? Is a big question for me. Another big game for QB B Buchanon on the BG side as well, as O will likely load the box to stop the run and make Buchanon beat them.

What happens from there? Come down to the El and find out.

BG 24

O 17

Should be a great game for sure. All eyes in 5A will be watching this game. 5A seems to be more competitive and balance it has been since 2010 or so with the addition of South Warren and the improve play of Greenwood. As the man said," BG is still king of the hill" till someone knocks em off.
