Tell me some more about this Dierig kid. What position does he play? It is obvious where that gene pool originates from.

Who will quarterback this team? Is Charlie Barr still the head coach?

Highlands plays zone defense all of the time? Interesting. We must be talking semantics here because it sure looks like man to man defense to me. Switching on picks and sealing off passing lanes is not playing zone defense to me. Call it what you will.

How much zone did Highlands play against Holy Cross as oppossed to man. Very little. They showed zone on a few occasions that was disguising their man to man. Quickness had nothing to do with it, they were beating Highlands on back door cuts to the basket because of the overplay of the passing lanes. If I recall Highlands defense held the Indians without a point for 7 minutes and 59 seconds of the third quarter. That did not occur because Highlands was playing zone defense. I do not know that any one player on Highlands team is a great defender, but they do play very well within the system that Willie employs.

Another classy statement by a Pendleton fan. They got what they deserved? Come on, we are talking about high school seniors out there playing their hearts out. I guess Elrod got what he deserved since he was sitting on the bench at the end of the game as well. As for the football comment, cannot wait to hear the complaining the first time these teams hook up.

Are you serious? Highlands only plays 8, not 9. I would not say that Highlands was sucking wind either. In fact, I saw Elliott bent over grabbing his shorts on several occassions. If you do not think that the foul call and technical on Johnson was a turning point in the game then you must be crazy. Exactly why did Pendleton deserve to win the game any more than Highlands did?

According to the Pendleton fans sitting around me, the fouls were 30 something for Highlands and zero for Pendleton. Absolutely chicken call by the official on the technical on Tanner Johnson. As for the nobody getting hurt, I saw Pendleton being just as physical as Highlands. At the time of the technical, Highlands had clawed their way back into the game and were only down by 5.

The result is in fact true. Holy Cross will not and I repeat will not defeat Covington Catholic in the Districts. Highlands shot very poorly from the free throw line in the last quarter which enable Holy Cross to get back in it along with some questionable calls or lack there of by the stripes. Again a very poorly officiated game IMO from the very start. As someone said to me at halftime, if the rules were complied with as stated in the book the scores would be in the 100's. Never seen more hand checks, elbows and flat out pushing that I have seen this year.

Now that the Bird freshman season is over, where do these kids go from here? How many will go on and play baseball? How many will start hitting the weights in anticipation of spring football? Will any practice with the varsity and jayvee for the rest of the season? Just curious to know since I know that some of these kids are multi-sport athletes.

I am sorry, but was Rice not jawing as well? How do you feel about Jefferson complaining about something to the officials at every dead ball. I agree that officials in the 9th keep a very close eye on Ben as well as Tanner Johnson, but they are by no means the only players in this region that have the potential to blow up. All I know, is that if I was starting a team Ben G. would be one of the first if not the first player on my roster. You have to have an attitude about you when you play sports and he definitely has it.

How many technicals has he had called against him this year? No more than 2 from what I know. I believe that Schlarman has a very good gauge on when to pull him if need be. Ben is without a doubt the emotional leader of this team. As he goes this team goes I believe. He is able to draw on his experiences as a football player and essentially force the other team members to play at his level of intensity. I think Greg Eaton is also able to do this to a lesser extent as well. His all out hustle forces the other kids to put forth the same effort as he does.

The problem that I have with the officiating in the 9th region is that it is not consistent from half to half. If you are going to let them bang in the first half you should not come out in the second half and call every ticky tack foul. The issue is merely one of consistency IMO.

Yeah it was nice seeing you guys out at Red Bank this A.M. Sorry that I was late, but heard the goaltending was fabulous. As for the hoops, really do not think that Wise brings much to the table at this point in time. McGraw needs to play with more confidence. Comparing Wise to Muntis is a bit of a stretch IMO. Willie is going no deeper than 8 and that is the name of that tune.

Seven is plenty deep at the high school level. Tell me, how deep does the girls team go? Do they go 8, 9 or 10 deep? This team is 19-3 and yet there are still fans that have something to complain about.

I am sorry, but what exactly does Wise do in the JV games that warrants him getting PT at the varsity level? The bench is going to be 8 deep, has been and will be for the remainder of the season. They do not need to go any deeper than that. Heck when Shields was there the bench went no deeper than 6 around this time of year.

My statement that Holmes does not have what it takes to win the region has nothing to do with their talent rather it is the intangibles. There are too many I's on that team IMO. I also do not think that there is any calming influence on that team. This is just one's opinion. I have seen many Holmes teams over the years with just as much talent or more that cannot seal the deal because of internal problems, not because they cannot play. I have no cake on my glasses, just stating my opinions. I would have too agree with most that there are only 3 teams that should win this region.

After watching last nights game I do not think they have what it takes to win the region this year.

How many points did he have in the first 3 to 4 minutes of the game? I will say at least 6 or 8, so yes he was a nonfactor after that time IMO.

Who is to say that he was benched? Maybe he was absent from school the day before and missed practice. That is between the coach and the player.

As was mentioned earlier, Vories and Simpson did not start the game. The substitutions had nothing to do with finding combinations IMO, rather they were done in an attempt to wear Scott out since they only play 6 players. Overall Highlands played very well. The Howard kid for Scott was a virtual nonfactor after the first 3 minutes of the game. As has been the case in most games that I have seen, there was no answer for Jeff Vories. Did see Bezold from NKU at this game. I would certainly hope that he is giving Vories a look.
