Who are some of the new faces coming into the program this year. How good will they be, will they have a chance for a 3 peat. Does the future of Highlands Football keep getting brighter.

Hmmmm not sure.. I think Dale has one of his 18 assistants out meeting with kids across the state this month.....errrrrrrr just kidding. ;)

I believe Austin Collinsworth will be a Freshman next Fall. He is an extremely athletic kid like his father and lightning fast.

Austin will be a freshman next year. Very fast and very athletic. Not only does he have Collinsworth genes, his mother's family (Bankemper) is also very athletic. His mom, Holly, is very athletic. His aunt, Beth, was a fantastic diver and swimmer (I think she went to college on a diving scholarship) and his uncle, John, led the state in scoring and rushing his senior year at Highlands. Will Bardo will be a freshman. Very good qb with speed and a strong arm. Jared Lorenzen was working with him last year to teach him a thing or two. His cousin Brad Bardo played for Highlands couple of years ago. His dad went to NC (and has zero athletic ability) but fortunately his mother's side (Cecil) has a lot of athletic ability. Chase Cecil and Clay Cecil are also his cousins. Brandon Roller will be a freshman and was one of the best defensive players in the league last year. His older brother will be a senior and started for Highlands this past year. His father was a very good player for Highlands as was his Uncle Bill. George Grote is a super athlete who I think would be a fantastic running back. David Hogue is another very good player and was a dominating linebacker in the league last year. Hunter Schlosser is a big, strong and quick lineman who gets some talent from his mothers side. His older brother Ben will be a senior for Highlands next year and started this year. There is a running back named Merrill (dont remember his first name) who also is very good (his step brother, Galen Kidwell, will be a senior at Highlands next year and also started for Highlands this year). Trenton Fugate is another big kid who should be very good on the line. There was a really good lineman on the green team whose name I forget who was one of the best linemen in the league. Nick Buten is a very good receiver. Cam Dierig is a little small, but has a motor that will not stop and has the heart and desire that every coach loves to see in a player. He'll be on the field somewhere next year that's for sure. Brian Beck is another very good lineman. Smart, tall and strong. His older brother starter for Highlands varsity this year. Ben Watson is another talented receiver. I'm sure I'm forgetting some kids that I should not and I apologize in advance.

Will they continue the unbeaten streak beyond its current run of 27? Its hard to say as its impossible to know how talented the other freshman teams will be, but knowing what I know of the kids who will be on Highlands freshmen team, it would not surprise me one bit, assuming kids stay healthy, that they go undefeated next year. The goal is not only to go unbeaten, the goal is to go unscored upon! I think Dale is pretty excited about this class. If they pan out like I think they will, I'd say things continue to look very bright for Highlands.

There will be quite a few familiar names on the Freshman roster.

Roller

Bankemper

Beck

Schlosser

Fennell

Fugate

Rosenhagen

Dierig

A few more are Bardo (Cecil's cousin)

Buten

Grote

Hogue

Trutschel

These are the one's I could think of off the top of my head. There obviously are many more but thier names just aren't coming to mind right now. You know that "age" thing.

I do know all are working very hard in weights and taking the extra necessary steps to be bigger, stronger, faster. :thumb:

Sorry LN, I was typing while you were posting. You pretty much covered it.

Heck, I'd be excited watching squirrels play football if they wore Highlands jerseys!

That gene pool has got to be getting worn out.The school colors are getting a little blue and gold with that NC influence.

Which gene pool?

Some of us swim in the shallow end of the gene pool :D

Hey..do they shoot the cannon off at the freshman & jv games??

Hey..do they shoot the cannon off at the freshman & jv games??

We usually don't. We shot it off this past year for the Freshman Championship.

That's about it!!!!

I hear you. My gene pool was drained years ago.

Hey where is that old NCBird? I'm sure he will have some input on this thread. :jump:
