UK- the above , as worded, is not correct. You say that once the pivot foot has been established "he CANNOT lift that pivot foot unless he starts his/her dribble." That's not true. He can lift his pivot foot first and THEN either shoot or pass. As Bellallum correctly stated, the pivot foot cannot be lifted before starting a dribble.

Never once have we talked about starting a dribble. You are 100% correct on the issue of lifting the pivot foot when starting a dribble. You'll notice, however, in say the debate that Wireman and I had that we were talking about ONLY the pivot foot being lifted prior to a shot or pass. Even in my UConn Thabeet example it was called a walk prior to him making a pass. PASS/SHOT is the debate at hand. That's obvious since we have not also debated the issue of going up for a shot and then starting your dribble, right? So what exactly am I sidestepping?

Your example you gave and the one your coaches taught you is NOT what we're talking about. You're talking about starting off a dribble. We've never mentioned that. The travel call is often made IMO because something looks odd even though when you watch the replay, it was completely legal. I'm not being critical of the officials because its a snap decision and I understand the logic ie "something didnt' look right - it must have been a travel."

I realize people got off track due to the comment about the "stork." However, the rule says nothing about a "basketball move." Sometimes you exaggerate something to make a point. There is no provision in the wording in the rulebook saying anything about a "basketball move." Technically, I could first establish a pivot foot then LIFT that pivot foot off the ground and just hold the ball in that position without it being a travel. This exaggerated scenario is used to show the false assumption made by many fans when they yell "he lifted his foot."

I'm pretty sure you that you only lose the arrow due to a violation during the AP. A foul would not cause you to lose the arrow.

Allow me re-phrase. On the play where it hits the ump and becomes "dead" then the batter is awarded a single, correct?

I thought of a more real-world example. PG has the ball out top dribbling and is going to pass to the wing. Just as he starts to pass,he sees the wing is covered up (not open). He realizes this during his motion. The fans will scream for a "walk" when his pivot foot comes off the floor and he pauses because he doesn't pass immediately. Not a walk.

I'm a bit confused by your wording. First you say Team is called for the T then you say Team A is awarded 2 FTs. I assume you mean the T was on A and B gets the FTs. If so, the FTs will be shot by B and then B takes the ball out midcourt opposite the table. The arrow is still in A's favor. I don't think a foul negates the arrow.
