BTW, we saw tonight that Holmes winning the 9th is far from a definite. CCH and now Highlands have had them down 10 late in the game but simply couldn't finish. You have to give Holmes much credit for that but they simply can't count on coming back from those deficits every time. The 9th will be fun.

McGraw is REALLY good. I had not seen him since the 8th grade. I was really surprised at how well he took Arrez off the dribble. I am going to be curious to see what his options are for college. I selfishly hope he takes a try at NKU even if they don't offer a scholarship right away due to his back. I didn't even know HHS had a student section there until I looked up late in the game and saw them. THe Holmes parents were the only "student section" at the game tonite. Kudos to them. Solid SOPH class at Highlands. Heck, solid SOPH class at Holmes. Great time.

You know its a big time game when you see Raiderbird, Oldbird, Sticky, the voice of CovCath Sports, a prominent member of the 81 state championship team, 2 guys that played in the Super Bowl, the hottest young football coach in NKY,NKU players and many of the local high school coaches. A. I guarantee you in your 25 years of playing you've done this exact same thing. Its a fairly common b-ball move (not the stork part) . B. I think you're right on it being called a travel because it looks odd. C. No contest , my friend. I'm just, as Sticky points out, a rules geek. I decided long ago to not yell at the refs until I knew the rulebook.

I'd argue that baseball is the sport that requires the most skill and practice. That hurts the cause.

A. That's not what the rule is saying. B. You can take a "big step" to the other (non-pivot) foot and lift your pivot foot. I'm not an official but I'll pay for your membership if a known official gets on here and tells me I'm wrong in regards to lifting your pivot foot without shooting.

Maybe since he was a strong shooter, he either didn't need the jump stop or simply never pefected it. If you can teach one to do it properly, I'm all for it. Its one more weapon in the arsenal.

You may know rules "pretty well" but you don't know this one. I'm not sure what the confusion is since 4-44-3 says "After coming to a stop and establishing a pivot foot: a. THE PIVOT FOOT MAY BE LIFTED, but not returned to the floot before the ball is released. Why are we debating the obvious? I'm not making up the rule. I'm simply following it.

I didn't change my pivot foot. I simply lifted it while standing on the non-pivot foot. I'd suggest you read a little bit further into the rulebook.

Maybe we're having a communication problem since its the written word. Lets try this. Stand up right now while reading this and act like you have the ball. Pick a foot and have it be your pivot foot. Move the non-pivot foot. Now take a step on the non-pivot foot and lift your pivot foot and then hold it. By what you're saying, you'd call a travel. That would be incorrect. My pivot foot is now the foot that's in the air. My non-pivot foot is the foot on the ground. Since its not a travel until my pivot foot (the foot in the air) touches the ground with me still having possession, why would you call a travel?

Thank you. You just backed up what I've been saying and you completely went against your original statement. Your "A" definition completely supports my line that I can lift my pivot foot, stand like a stork without shooting or passing BECAUSE as you accurately point out in A , I have not "returned to the floor before the ball is released..."

The same travel rules apply to the jump stop. If I have the ball with no pivot foot established and I jump from both feet (picture a standing broad jump), I can then land on one foot (now the pivot) then land with the other then lift my pivot foot without it being a travel. If , however, I'm driving the lane, pick up my dribble, jump off one foot I cannot land in a 1-2 fashion. If I do, its a travel as my pivot foot would have landed with me still having possession of the ball. Its a tough call because it also depends on when you pick up the ball and what happens with your feet after that.

No. He doesn't get a new 3 seconds when he catches the ball. However, the wording is a little vague as it says "an allowance will be made...." There is no way they will let you have the ball in the lane for 3 or 4 seconds.

Well, I guess I'm always amazed at how many people yell that(and then get on here and say how bad the refs are) without knowing that its legal. Isn't that obvious?

McGraw will be an interesting test for Arrez. His combination of strength, size, and athletic ability is not something Arrez sees a lot. With that said, I'd look for McGraw's productivity to be down tonight. Arrez is simply that tough.

I might see it once per game. Maybe. I think a lot of refs will talk to the players while action is going on which probably cuts down on the number of calls.

What? Each ref has an area they watch. One of them is watching the lane. Its not hard to see the lane area and notice one player camped out.
