Help me find the wording in the rulebook about the it hitting the ump.

Prior to the 15:00 minute mark in pre-game, Holmes always dunks as they did Thursday night.

Assuming Roberts would be healthy, they would dominate. No question.

Some of you have gotten distracted by the "stork" comment. The original intent was to point out that when you yell "he lifted his pivot foot" at an official and you are looking for a call, you are incorrect. You have nothing until you see what happens when the pivot foot touches the floor again. THAT's when you decide if you have a travel. Lets say my right foot is my pivot. I'm pivoting and that trying to free myself from a defender. I'm near the OOB line. I take a step with my free foot and then lift my pivot foot getting ready to pass. The fact that I lifted my pivot foot does not dictate a travel call. That's the point. I'm allowed to have my pivot foot off the ground without it being a travel.

No one is arguing that. The debate is when the pivot foot is lifted (legal) what has to happen before a traveling violation is called.

I'd ask that ref to get on here and describe what he sees in his mind as comapred to the play I'm talking about so we can see where the difference is. We're both in the same boat - we can't understand why the other can't see what we're talking about.

Correct. Same as if they had thrown the runner out at first on a ground ball.

I mentioned that in a previous post that the written word is apparently not the same as what we each have in our mind.

From OBR: Rule 2.00 Example: Not a force out. One out. Runner on first and third. Batter flies out. Two out. Runner on third tags up and scores. Runner on first tries to retouch before throw from fielder reaches first baseman, but does not get back in time and is out. Three outs. If, in umpire’s judgment, the runner from third touched home before the ball was held at first base, the run counts.

Its not a force out. A force out is defined as being forced to the next bag by the following runners.

I'm guessing Chappie says he saw it. Its only Chappie's call on that and not the official behind the play on the opposite side of the court.

If they don't signal a 3 then its a 2, right?

From OBR: 4.09 HOW A TEAM SCORES. (a) One run shall be scored each time a runner legally advances to and touches first, second, third and home base before three men are put out to end the inning. EXCEPTION: A run is not scored if the runner advances to home base during a play in which the third out is made (1) by the batter-runner before he touches first base; (2) by any runner being forced out; or (3) by a preceding runner who is declared out because he failed to touch one of the bases. None of the exceptions apply so the run would count since the 3rd out was recorded after the runner scored.

I'm going to have to look it up.

What was his partner going to say if he was behind the play and on the other side? Heck, the play was coming at me and I couldn't tell who it went off of.

Now let me preface my question with the fact that there is no "shot" being taken or no upperclassmen being criticized. How did the 8th graders do for Ryle?

I think its a timing play just like if the runner was tagging up and going to 2nd but was thrown out AFTER the runner on 3rd crossed the plate.

I would argue that HHS had as many run outs as Holmes or had as many "over the top" plays against Holmes' press. I bet ol' Tom and Chappie are currently soaking their feet and icing their knees.

I guess Chappie thought McGraw was the last to touch it. There is no do-over when there is a collision with the ref.

Hey, I only mentioned the people I actually saw. I wasn't allowed to sit in the core Highlands section so I didn't get to see you and your man.

Anyone that THINKS they might want to ref would pause after watching tonight's game. Those types of games are tough to ref.

Run counts. Runner is out. Once the ball touches a fielder including the pitcher and then hits the ump, the ball is live. Since I said the runner was out in 2, he must be out in 2A. I'm guessing you and I disagree on #2.

Correct but he doesn't get a fresh 3 seconds if he was already in the lane and didn't leave.
