So in the debate between winning football championships and providing opportunities for other students not on the football team (some of whom were females) - winning football championships won. I guess you can figure out who was the loser. If you (or quickslick) are at all wondering why people on here are so skeptical of the perceived treatment of the kids wanting to play soccer at Beechwood - look no further, you summed it up well.

Beechwood's Jacob Huff, who graduated this year, would have been one of the top soccer players in NKY. Jacob played club ball with the top kids from Cov. Cath. growing up, but because Beechwood never had a soccer team he never got to play high school soccer.

Given the lack of football state championships in recent years, it is a good thing that the start of soccer didn't coincide with the start of the football drought. Come to think of it girls soccer did start about the same time, maybe the ladies are to blame. :banana:

Jeff Duggins as the 2nd best QB in the last 15 years??? There are multiple Highlands teams he wouldn't have even started on. There are several Lex. Cath teams he wouldn't have started on. He would not have been the QB at Conner during the Drew Barker years.

It was well before my time, but I would think Newport's legendary coach Stan Arnzen would be on any list at or near the top. Another one who is before my time would be Cov. Cath's Mote Hils.

A few years ago ths was a great meet with most all of the NKY teams competing. Not sure what happened, but it has really lost a lot of steam and it no longer looks anything like its original purpose.

55+ won it last year; however, Jake Glass from St. X has already had a throw of 58+ this year. It will be tough, but Branden certainly has a chance. All the best to him as he competes the rest of the season. On aside note, Branden's 55-6 is the 3rd furthest ever in NKY. Troy Cooper of Brossart had a 58-5.5 in 2007 and Trevor Kraft of highlands had a 55-9 in 2013.

In the 200 in NKY historically: Venneman is 1st with the 21.99 he ran at state and Erpenbeck is 2nd with the 22.00 he ran at state.

Accoring to KY Milesplit, Jake is currently 3rd. Jeff Teeteh of Boone County (who I don't recall) is first with a 10.84. Jordan Bridgett of Highlands is 2nd with a 10.90. Then Jake. Alex Venneman is currently just outside the top 10 at 11th with an 11.07.

This has been the rule for some time. Perhaps just a point of emphasis.

I will be there, not 100% sure if I will attend the boys sessions or not at this point.

I don't recall how they did last year, but Cov. Cath has 2 really strong divers in Evan Brungs and Louie Hunt. Cov. Cath's best can usually complete pretty well with St. X's best, but they usually don't have the depth to be able to win.

Lots of good stuff in here and very even handed. Much respect for a coach who "gets it".

Not sure what PE looks like now, but when I was in school it was a big waste of time. Also given that I know a whole lot of PE teachers who look like they are more interested in coaching than teaching, it probably hasn't changed much.

We could probably have a healthy debate about each of these and there would be merits as to whether they should or shouldn't be included an academic curriculum. In the end they probably are closer to having a football practice during the academic day than they are to learning math.

I misunderstood. I don't really care who it helps or hurts on the foootball field -this is an awful idea for an academic institution. If schools can sacrifice an hour of instructional time every day then the day is too long. There are plenty of benefits to football, but it is still an extracirricular activity. Mixing it into the academic day will not help further the education of children.

Highlands lifts during school?

Maddie Jackson a senior at Woodford County was killed Monday in a car accident while driving to her swim practice. Maddie was a state finalist in the 100 breast stroke in 2014 finishing 7th and a top 16 finisher in the 200 IM. She also swam for the Bluegrass Marlins. On her wall hung a list of goals for her 2014-2015 swim season and included with all of the performance goals were to "have fun" and encourage teamates" - speaks volumes about who she was. My heart and prayers go out to Maddie's family, as well as, her teammates. This week marks the start of the post season for high school followed by the post season meets for club swimmers and I can't imagine the pain those who loved Maddie are experiencing. Such a tragedy.
