Last night at the Cooper / NCC game (that's why I put this in this thread) I had a chance to talk for a few moments to Terry Boehmker, long time NKY sports writer. He has always been very nice to me and I appreciate the work he has done over the years. Just for fun I asked him what are the most memorable or enjoyable moments for him to cover over his career. In the order he gave them to me: 1. Holy Cross girls basketball winning state. 2. Simon Kenton boys basketball winning state. 3. NCC football state title when they had that late surge to beat Danville. 4. Mud bowl. I asked him for a non-football/basketball moment. He said when Frank Jacobs hit a home run in the regional baseball tourney, which was being held at Thomas More. I don't remember this one, but I am guessing it was in the championship and in walk-off style for it to be so memorable to him. I guess it could have been because Frank was such a memorable athlete.

We, especially our old friend Birdsfan, tried to forget this game long ago.

The KHSAA and the crying of the masses didn't help either Male or St. Xavier this past decade.

Nahhh my heart is warm as a heat wave in December with the Birds rolling. Even a complete monsoon (and Mike Thompson reeling in a Jeff Kremer heave for the game winning TD) couldn't dampen the warmness in my heart when I think about those victories. :banana:

I don't know who I would say is the best, but these are teams I really like (all since 1980 because I can't judge anything before that as I was too young): 1982: Highlands beat a loaded Christian County in Rec Bowl. Highlands went undefeated and won State AAA and Christian County went undefeated to win state AAAA. Highlands was ranked top 25 in USA Today, when that poll was really in its infancy. Jeff Kremer was QB and John Bankemper was RB. 1996: Led by Frisk - Birds went undefeated. Started the season beating St. X. and ended the season beating UC bound Deontey Kenner and 25 year old UK bound Artoose Pinner. 1998: Lorenzen, Smith, Ulbricht, and an undersized Noah Gibson led the Birds. Very similar to 1981 - Highlands beat Male in Champions Bowl to start season and both Highlands and Male went on to win state championships. Male's QB was Gerry Ahrens, who either went to Arkansas and transferred to Louisville or vice versa. 2000: Led by Guidugli, Hamblen, Scott, Grover, etc. Started season by beating Trinity in what I believe was Bob Beatty's first game as coach. Highlands was up big and threatened to put a running clock on the Rocks, but it never got to that point and Trinity came roaring back late to make game interesting. Only loss was a 7 point decision to Elder in front of really big crowd at Paul Brown Stadium with a call that will forever haunt Bluebird fans the same way Lattener's shot haunts Cat fans. Others: - 2004 was an awfully good team that is mostly know for being the Mike Mitchell team. - 2007 as someone mentioned had a nice run and was undefeated. - 2008 Highlands only loss was to a really good Colerain team. - 2009 team broke through with a GCL win beating Cincy. St. X and going undefeated - led by Austin Collinsworth and a Soph. Pat Towles. - 2011 - Pat's senior year was undefeated and a nice team. - 2012 - Donovan McCoy was QB and only loss was to Elder.

You know that I know that you know that I know that isn't why this game was moved. Nor does make sense. All of the elite 8 games are being played in Lexington only miles apart. If you left the NDA game in the evening it wouldn't conflict with any other girls elite 8 game and if you were a girls soccer fan you could come close to seeing most if not all of all 4 games.

Is there such thing as a triple assist goal? Why would we stop at 2? There is no doubt Zoeller (the player) is an impact player. There is also little doubt that Zoeller (the dad) is an impact stat producer. :banana:

You are correct. They cover more than one. I believe three regions, but it could very well be four.

Just to be clear, I am not even saying we need to go there (bringing in outside officials) or would want to go there.

So in basketball we bring in officials from outside the region, but in soccer where one call (or lack thereof) can literally decide a match the ref assigner puts a guy in the center of it all that many would have the perception (real or otherwise) of as being within the "same community" as one of the teams he is officiating? Makes perfect sense to me. :banana:

Scott's Markie Duffy committed to GA Southern. Markie is an exceptional young lady - congrats!!! Parents are really good people too.

Goal was by Taylor Tolle and I believe it made her the all time leading scorer for the Lady Breds. She is just a junior so she has another year to add to that total. Her brother Matthew was a very good player for NCC (might have been regional MVP in 2011) as well.

Two more thoughts: - Based upon Yellow Card's math above, SK's ladies only had one goal more than they had total assists in the regular season. Plus we know in both the Cooper and WV games the lady Neers scored 6 goals and 5 were assisted - that can only mean that sometime during the season the team achieved the rarest of rare, a legendary double assisted goal. I have never actually seen or experienced this, but oh I have heard the tales of such a magical event. I think Scott boys were able to see and experience this on multiple occasions last season. - Second last night it appears the SK girls scored 2 unassisted goals, which doubles their unassisted goals for the year. That makes 3 of the last 5 games the girls have had unassisted goals after not having any up until that point.

When you say "relative to the ball" do you mean closest by distance or by blood? :banana: Now I don't care who you are - that right there is funny.

And it just happened in the WV game. I am sure their coach was pretty ticked off when they had their first unassisted goal of the season. Ruined a perfect stat line. :banana:

While you are researching the SK girls stats compare goals and assists and see if anything jumps out at you?

A few others: Mikayla Herich (home school NKY Kid) - committed to Ohio U Grace Oglesby (North Oldham?) committed to UofL Kennedy Lohman (Sacred Heart) committed to Arizona Asia Seidt (Sacred Heart) committed to KY Madison Winstead (Dunbar) committed to KY Morgan Lakes (Madison Central) committed to KY Pat Forde's son Clayton (St. X) is a top boy who has yet to commit.
