Swimming Regionals

Featured Replies

Swimming Regionals are this weekend. Which teams have done well this season? Who are some swimmers that we will be reading about?

I would expect the normal cast of characters to dominate this event. Cov. Cath, NDA, Dixie and Highlands. Everybody else will be fighting for bread crumbs. I wonder if the 4 meet minimum qualifier will be enforced, and if so, how?

Cov Cath wins its 17th straight regional championship beating out second place Dixie by more than 400 points. Bad news for other local teams, the results in the next couple years will probably be similar to this. Notre Dame wins on the girls side by more than 200 points. Notre Dame has now won 35 of the last 37 regional championships. Extremely impressive by the Pandas.

Does Cov Cath have a shot at St. X this year? #AlwaysABiggerFish

I think it could be closer this year than it's been in a while. Cov Cath is deep and entries look pretty even with maybe a slight entry advantage to St. X. Will come down to relays and who can get more folks into the consol heats.

Cov Cath's primary reason for struggling to beat St. X is the fact that they have no divers...and I mean that most years, they have literally zero divers competing. There have been multiple years during St. X's current 26 year streak as consecutive state swimming & diving champions where Cov Cath has outscored St. X in the swimming portion of the meet.

I realize combining the swimming and diving scores for a single winner is "how things are done", but seeing as swimmers and divers are often 100% different athletes, I have long thought that there should be a KHSAA swimming meet/champion, and then a separate KHSAA diving meet/champion.

I don't recall how they did last year, but Cov. Cath has 2 really strong divers in Evan Brungs and Louie Hunt. Cov. Cath's best can usually complete pretty well with St. X's best, but they usually don't have the depth to be able to win.
