IMO, the 'birds looked a little off in the games leading to the St. X game... they handled their opponents, but the team was not firing on all cylinders. I think the St. X game was the contest that lit the fuse. Perhaps by design. The fire is now in their eyes and it will be awfully hard to put it out. Also, this is not exactly the same defensive personnel that started the season against Beechwood, Ryle, Manual, Withrow and Boone County. In other words, some other ingrediants have been added to the defensive cake mix! Things are lookn' pretty sweeeet! Get well soon Will! Nice seeing you and some of your team buddies in Lexington Saturday! Seeing BLUE is all good!

Not having a full and complete understanding of the ranking system for Ohio state playoffs, how much damage did this do to St. X? I have heard often how the Cincinnati D-1 teams like playing against Kentucky schools with winning records as it adds value to the rank and rating system in Ohio. On the other hand, I heard last night that the loss to St. X will not have much impact. Which way is it? Also, I thought the St X players and fans showed nothing but class before and especially after the game during the on field celebrations. Very favorable reflection of the St X coach and his staff and players.

Unfortunately... NO. No game today for the JV squad...

It just doesn't get any better than this! Congratulations to the 2009 Bluebird squad... practice hard, play hard and win. The entire offense did a masterful job against one of the top defensive units in the country... Bardo, AC and the o-line were awesome. The defense played perfect football. Some of the best tackling I have seen in the last couple of years. Our d -backs kept Massa frustrated all night long. Now to give credit to Dale and his coaching staff who crafted one heck of a game plan that worked to perfection. Dale had the kids believing before, during and now after the game. Will, get well soon! The family is as proud as can be...

I am thinking at least one by special teams play... perhaps the other three by land, sea and air! The Birds will be ready, Dale's got 'em prepared, let's get it going!

The JV player practices as long as and as hard as the starting Varsity player. The JV experience simply provides an opportunity to play and to develop their skills set. I agree that the JV record is not a predictor of success for the varisity, but rather an indicator of success currently enjoyed by the varisity program. Simply, I have not seen a great JV team and poor Varsity team or a poor JV team and a great Varsity team.

My understanding is Scott Co backed out for this Saturday but has rescheduled the Saturday that we were scheduled to play Scott High School who has backed out... St X was never scheduled to play the HHS JV team. Not sure why... The JV boys would love to play the CCH JV team but I don't think the head coaches would want to tip their hat prior to the Varsity game...:bunny:

IMO, they really want to get into this contest because they have practiced hard all week. Secondly, because they do not have a JV game scheduled for Saturday! As far as getting in to be able to watch it later, all HHS games are filmed from multiple anges, downloaded and burned onto DVD and available for sale the next morning. Frankly, I do not see the JV's playing this time around... due to a tight contest!

Where is one going to find a better gig of head football coach and AD? Tom is not quite retirement age. I do not think anyone in their right mind would leave that set-up! Unless, a principalship wold open up in the Kenton County Schools...

I agree 100% I have always been a Brandon Smith fan... I really liked his toughness, leadership, etc. Just having some fun with the Mitchell comment.

Check posts 25, 32 and 47! The best in the Greater Cincinnati area in my opinion. With the friendly atmosphere of the Withrow fans, band, etc. - the best I have experienced at a highschool game.

And what is wrong with an "overzealous fan?" I can not find any fault in fans supporting their programs and their athletes. Most folks close to the program realize the birds have a lot of 1st time starters on the Offense and Defense and it will take some time for the team to gel to Ft Thomas expectations. Others, are just having some fun predicting wide margined victories. I do not find fault with them either. IMO, the cheap part of this experience is when some enjoy the bashing of a program or other posters after the contest to prove some wothless point.

Gracious hosts indeed... the fans were great, the band was awesome and the facilities reminded many of a small ivy league campus. The police did a heck of a job getting all the cars out of the parking lots. Withrow really put on a great show this evening...

But we, the Kentucky schools, should keep on trying and perhaps some day we will break the barrier... and earn some respect nationally. Until then, we will be on the short stick of D-1 recruits from the bluegrass state.

I agree with your assessment of the '05 HHS squad. Very tough schedule, inexperience line and shy of leadership by the small in number of seniors on the team. With that said, they had a very decent season losing in the playoffs to a Lex Cath team that won state that year.

Just a man's opinion, but I thought Mike Mitichell should have earned that honor. He is playing in the NFL... that should help justify my thoughts.

I think the 'birds frosh squad had another bontiful turnout this year... if the coach liberally substitutes... should not be a factor. Especially, if one of the three games played was a total "blowout." Just an opinion...

I saw the 'birds play against Trinity a few weeks ago and I was very impressed by the level of play by both squads. I was thinking no one was going to beat the 'birds in N Kentucky this year. Ryle must have a great program... Congratulations! I too am looking forward to a possible Frosh rematch this year.
