Seeing the comment RockPride made in the X and T uni thread, prompted me starting this thread as I didn't want to jack that thread. RockPride posted that he was in support of the pink jerseys and pointed out he lost his Mom a month ago to breast cancer. For that he has my sympathies. But, and I realize this will come across as insensitive and cold to some/many/everyone (but me as I readily accept death as a part of life), I don't think the pink uniforms have any place in sports. I lost my Dad about a year ago to pancreatic cancer. Miss him dearly. But I do not think that any team should wear patches saying "Beat Pancreatic Cancer" anymore than I think Catholic school teams should wear anti abortion decals on their helmets or pink uniforms to create awareness about breast cancer. My brother has Parkinson's but I'd be opposed to Highlands wearing a big P decal on their helmet to bring awareness to the disease or to stimulate Parkinson's research. I'm sorry, but in my opinion we need to keep the "causes" out of sports. There is a place for everything and sports is not the place for causes unrelated to the team or the sport. I can see the day coming when every cause wants their message displayed on uniforms. How do you tell them no, after you've allowed it for breast cancer?

The simple words of "He was the consumate gentleman" sum up my feelings about Coach Burns. Just a top shelf person. My in laws have been around and got to know all the Highlands coaches going back to the Judge Waddell days. Mike was one of their favorites.

I thought the Highlands O line had another outstanding game. I agree with you; from my very close observation, they have done a great job. While I'd have preferred Highlands win of course, this was a great game. Even though Elder won by 14, those were two pretty evenly matched teams out there. Very proud of the effort and performance by the Birds. I'm sure the Birds will put this game behind them; learn some things from the loss; refocus; and move on to hopefully another state championship.

mex, I think I have the 16mm film of that game but I can assure you it is not one that I had transferred over to a VCR tape. So no breakdown of that tape. I don't even think we reviewed it as a team the day after the game. I have watched the state game several times, each of which has been humbling. I wasn't near as good as I want to remember being, missed more tackles and blocks than I thought I did, and man was I slow! Clyde, no tape on the tripping but I think the entire City heard the curse words uttered at the time.

Good to know that at my advanced age, my memory hasn't failed too much. Now if I could just remember to pull up my zipper before leaving the men's room.

As to the bolded, Elder had a very nice short passing game against Trinity when they played this year. Trinity I believe was missing their best corner in that game, but he wasn't going to be able to cover all the receivers that Elder was passing the ball to. Elder's receivers have nice size by the way. LBers are going to have to be concerned about the passing game, which means we are really going to need the D line play a great game defending the run this week. This isn't a week when our LBers can play down hill every play and not have to worry about defending the short pass. Furthermore, if Elder sticks with the short passing game with quick releases by the QB, opportunites to sack the QB will be limited and the DBs have to put an emphasis on quickly getting their hands up to knock down passes.

Did you have to add that part? I have two good friends that played on the CC team and they remind me plenty enough about the Camels' upset of us. :irked: It was a bad night for me: forgot to pack my jersey; flew home to get it; got a speeding ticket going back to the school; team is loading up and, as I was running from the locker room towards the bus, I tripped over the speed bump outside the locker room, tweaking my sprained ankle. Adding insult to injury was going out to the County and getting beat. Just a bad day all around. There was a silver lining to the loss: we had been winning but playing rather sloppily. Needless to say, we got "refocused" by the coaches the following week in practice prepping for Knox Central. My factoid from that year: our championship game against FS was at WKU, which was the last year the championships were at WKU until the state games returned in 09 and my younger son played in the 09 game.

Hadn't the starting QB performed very poorly and got yanked in favor of the back up in the game prior to the Highlands game (which may have lead to the behavior that resulted in the suspensions)? If I remember correctly, my Elder buddies felt the back up QB was better than the Senior but Ramsey stuck with the Senior as long as he could. Don't know if any of that is accurate; does any of that ring a bell?

Congrats Camels. I just hope the players aren't content with winning a district championship. Must forget about beating Ryle and winning the district today and start getting ready for Boone. Success can sometimes be a difficult thing to handle if you don't focus really hard. Again, congrats Camels.:thumb:

Awesome win for Dixie (and no I don't feel that way because of UK#1fan). Just very happy for the Dixie kids, Coach Brossart and the other Dixie coaches. After the disappointing loss to Campbell County, I'm sure some heads were down. To have a big district win over a county rival after a short week of practice should do a lot to help Dixie. Well done.

Shouldn't puzzle you at all. It's more important to you than it is to the HHS coaches. If the HHS coaches were concerned about the names of their players being announced over the PA system or being recorded in someone's stat book, they'd have brought one. They aren't. It's that simple. Congrats Baby Birds. Well done.

The "no respect" card is one of the major ways that Matney (and other eastern Kentucky coaches) motivates his players. Personally, I think the no respect stuff is a bunch of hooey, as I know a whole lot of folks from throughout Kentucky that respect eastern Kentucky football. But if the eastern Kentucky players and fans keep buying it, eastern Kentucky coaches are going to keep selling it.

No you are not reading the schedule wrong. As RB mentioned, there was a rumor that it was the first game and from what I know, there was a possibility it would be played in the first game. But no game is scheduled in a vacumn. Both teams have to look and see what other games can only be scheduled in certain weeks. Coaches try to balance out home and away games. So it turned out that Campbell County will be the second game and it will be played at Highlands next year.

When you make posts like the above, you can't single out UK#1fan as being the sole reason some folks hope SK loses. I was simply responding to your post that Highlands should schedule a game against Trinity "that counts" by pointing out that in my eyes the scrimmage game counts because it lets me know what team is better; which would give the same indication if the two teams played in the regular season. Nothing more and nothing less. So I don't understand the point of your response to my post. And for the record, I've not ever posted or pointed out that SK is not Highlands or Trinity. Heck, I don't recall ever posting anything negative about SK. I see no need to grind SK into the ground. Personally, I'd like to see all the 6A schools do better. Heck, I'd like all N. Ky schools to do well. But you have to admit, given UK#1fan's posting style, it is easy to see why others want SK to struggle. And I'm not just talking about Highlands fans either. You want to stop hearing about how Highlands is better than SK, I'd suggest you look at UK#1fan. He encourages it. Yeah, I'd like the Highlands posters to ignore him as I do. And I seriously doubt that the knowledgeable Trinity fan would say there is no difference between SK and Highlands. Heck, you yourself have admitted that SK is not Highlands. If you can see it, I'm sure they can too. And to answer your question, they did keep score in the scrimmage game. It was played under game conditions. There may have been a little more substitution activity but otherwise it was played just like a regular season game. And for the record, the more liberal substitution activity did not affect, in any significant way, Trinity's dominance over Highlands in the scrimmage game. Now can we get back to talking about Highlands schedule next year. SK isn't on it so there is no reason for SK to be discussed.

I'll be honest with you, I've never understood the mentality of those that don't think the scrimmage game with Trinity counts. They certainly have counted to me. Each year I want to see whether Trinity or Highlands is better, the exact same thing I would get out of them playing during the regular season. The last two years the scrimmage game showed me that Trinity was significantly better than Highlands. In 2010, the two teams were comparable with one another. Because the scrimmages indicated what team was better, they counted. At least to me they did. Not sure how Trinity whipping Highlands in a regular season game would count any more than whipping Highlands the way they did in the scrimmage. Both would have shown the same thing: Trinity was a much better team.

Good question. I didn't ask. Next time I see my source I'll ask if no one answers your question in the meantime.

I feel the same way about UK#1fan. I don't bother responding to his posts as he has zero credibility with me. Arguing with him would be like arguing with my chair. It's pointless. The best way to handle him is for everyone that sees through the "he's just a great fan" baloney, is to not respond to any of his posts. When he stops getting the childish satisfaction of people responding to his chain jerking posts, he'll either change or go away.

Don't know what is going on with HC football so I won't comment on the OP. But I do want to say that those HC kids on the field last Friday played very hard and with a lot of heart throughout the game. They earned a lot of respect from me.
