Don't know. I'm not aware of the KHSAA receiving any federal funds; at least not directly from the federal govt. Don't know if it would be deemed to have received federal funds simply due to the fact its members receive federal funds. Can't honestly recall a conversation while I was on the BOC saying we (the KHSAA) had to do this or couldn't do that because of Title IX, but I have the memory of a 55 year old, so those conversations may have occurred. Regardless of whether it's applicable, there is zero doubt in my mind that the KHSAA places a heavy emphasis on the administration and development of female sports. Some may think having the females play their championship in BG is unfair or disparate treatment, but I don't see that at all.

And just who do you think feels the financial pain if the KHSAA feels financial pain? The schools and the student athletes do. Not that such issue is necessarily germane to the Title IX issue. Title IX does not require the facilities to be exactly the same or the same amount of money to be spent on female and male sports. There is a 3 prong test to determine compliance. Satisfy one of the 3 prongs and you are good to go. The 3 prongs are: Providing athletic participation opportunities that are substantially proportionate to the student enrollment. This prong of the test is satisfied when participation opportunities for men and women are "substantially proportionate" to their respective undergraduate enrollment. Demonstrating a continual expansion of athletic opportunities for the underrepresented sex. This prong of the test is satisfied when an institution has a history and continuing practice of program expansion that is responsive to the developing interests and abilities of the underrepresented sex (typically female). Accommodating the interest and ability of underrepresented sex. This prong of the test is satisfied when an institution is meeting the interests and abilities of its female students even where there are disproportionately fewer females than males participating in sports.

What is wrong with it, you ask? I can't say it's wrong, but on some level it just bothers me when we disclose that coaches have applied elsewhere. We ask kids to believe and buy into their coaches and I think it hurts the chances of that happening when we post these types of threads and the coach doesn't get the job(s) he applied for and stays. I honestly think it hurts a coach's ability to lead when his players read that he applied for several jobs and in all likelihood would have left if he'd have gotten the job. Yeah, I can appreciate the likely response from some that he shouldn't have applied then. But you can't lay that on a coach and then say there is nothing wrong with a coach seeing if there is a better fit for him and his family. Adults generally understand a coach trying to better his/his family's situation; teenagers often do not. They see a coach that applied to coach somewhere else as disloyal and not being committed to them at the same time he is asking them to be committed to him and his program. It's the Ru's site and he is obviously free to do what he wants, but as much as I love him, I don't agree with these types of threads any more than I agree with threads involving injuries to players; newsworthy or not. Other than satiating our curiosity, what good comes out of these types of threads? Maybe there is something, but I honestly don't know what it would be.

My understanding is that the KHSAA would consider a request for a change and would grant it under the appropriate circumstances, but there has to be a pretty compelling reason for the requested change. The KHSAA appreciated the argument by coaches, particularly those without artificial turf, that trying to have football practice right after basketball season ended was not a very efficient time to be practicing football. There were two concerns that the KHSAA had with changing the rule as to when Spring football would be held: one was the impact on Spring sports; the other was monitoring compliance with the days and time limitations of Spring football. To address the latter, the requirement was added that the coaches had to notify the KHSAA in advance as to when Spring ball would be held. Seemed like a very fair compromise on that point. As to the adverse impact on Spring sports, the KHSAA believed that this issue was best dealt with within the school building and to be worked out by the principal, AD, football coach and the coaches of the Spring sports; a position that I fully supported.

You would be right about his uncle not being named to the All BGP team. Then again, the founder of BGP was probably still loading up diapers when Mitch's uncle played high school football. If I can brag a bit, how cool is it that I've had two sons and a nephew all make All State and All BGP as O linemen? Since my oldest son started wearing the number 62 back in 2005 (or was it 2004), the number has been worn continously by those three. The number will pass out of the family this Fall. Hopefully whoever gets it will wear the number with pride and go on to be All State and All BGP also. Maybe some day the youngest nephew on my side of the family and Mitch's younger brother will get to wear 62 also. No pressure there at all. LOL. The reason I stunk in high school? I wore number 63! Congrats Mitch. Very proud of you too!

Don't know. Didn't see Clyburn play. Did see Bertram. He was the best LBer I saw play this past season. I don't say a certain player is the best player in the state at a position unless I've seen every playerin the state who plays that position. Which is pretty much impossible for anyone to do of course. You've stated that Clyburn is the best LBer in the state, and that's great. You are entitled to that opinion. The people who picked the All BGP team felt that the other LBers were better than Clyburn. That's their opinion. They may be wrong; you may be wrong. Who knows.

I'm agreeing to disagree a lot these days , but we are going to have to agree to disagree on Jackson ebing the best LB in the state (Bertram of Trinity was the best LBer I saw but he got very little publicity all year because he had teammates named Hatcher, White, Dawkins, Quick and White so he stayed undert he radar. And yes I saw Jackson play too). Is Jackson extremely, extremely good? You betcha. If he wasn't such a stud at multiple positions and belonging on the ATH squad, I'd be arguing right along with you that Jackson should have been listed as a LBer. But because he was so good at so many positions, I feel that ATH slot honored him the best.

Agree with the choice also. If there could have been a 1A and a 1B, Borchers would have been 1A and Lewis of Collins would have been 1B as he accomplished pretty much the same thing that Borchers did. Only difference I can see is that Borcher's Cooper team gave Bowling Green a much better game for the state title than Lewis' Collins team gave Highlands. If Collins returns to the state game this Fall and either wins it or gives the representative from the East a good game, Lewis would have to be one of the favorites I'd think.

While Hatcher got (and deserved) a lot of praise for his play this year, Jordan and Betram really impressed me in the several games I watched Trinity play this year. Teams wanted to be able to run the ball between the tackles in order to stay away from Hatcher, but because Jordan and Betram were so tough against the run up the middle, teams had to pass or try to run wide. When they did, Hatcher was usually there waiting for them. Trinity's front seven was as good a front seven that I've seen in quite a while (although I'm really looking forward to watching Highlands front seven this coming season. It should be a special one too).

We'll disagree on this, and that's okay, but I place more emphasis on allowing a high school kid the opportunity to experience being the PA than I do worrying about whether a mistake is made by the kid.

Congrats to all making the team. Special congrats to the Birds on the team. Well done. A lot of very good football players on the team; yet a lot of very good football players didn't make it. Which to me says very good things about the improving quality of Ky high school football.

I'd say it's safe to assume that Jac isn't going to be around town on Friday nights this Fall. As for the press box, I read in the paper that the school has requested approval from KDE to spend the money to replace the press box and do other construction projects at the school.

Whomever they choose, I just hope he/she sticks to calling the play. Leave the commentary and flowery stuff to the other programs that seemingly need that schtick. And please, for the love of God, don't be playing music between plays. I don't attend games to be entertained by the PA and they don't play the games for the PA to "show off his talents". I liked Keeneland more before they started calling the races. Figured I had eyes and binoculars for that purpose.

I really liked watching this kid play football. Was extremely impressed with him and the way he returned his senior year from a pretty bad knee injury his junior year. Had a very, very nice State game.
