Highlands has a lot of talent. It's putting the talent together that's the trick. I expect them to do fairly well this year.

I agree plus they have alot of younger kids coming up that will help them out in future years. It should be a good year.

Starters returning from 2012 (recognizing that the lineup changed depending on various factors)

C - Murray SR (Hennigan SO when Murray P)

2B - Allen JR

SS - Whitford SO

3B - Schultz SR (Gesenhues JR when Schultz P)

LF - Lester SR

CF - Molina SR

RF - Heck SR

DH - Hennigan SO

Pitchers (in no particular order)

Schultz SR

Jones SO

Cochran JR

Murray SR

Liggett SR

It will be interesting to see others who will contribute in 2013. JV team ripped the cover off the ball last year. I have heard rumors of a few Birds returning to "the nest" and some new contributors that have not played in the past. Not sure who has been showing up for voluntary workouts, who will show up for "less" voluntary workouts or who will announce "present" when they line up on FEB 15th. I guess we will just wait and see.

Big hole to fill at 1B / Cleanup with the graduation of Meyer. Hergott JR injury will hurt OF depth and Noe SO injury will prevent us from finding out in 2013 what he could have contributed as a LH arm at the varsity level.

jpa, the injuries to Hergott & Noe are very unfortunate. I look for Martin to be the early favorite to win the 1B job. I can also see Brady Murray in the mix somewhere.

I heard Jac Collinsworth is trying to play. When was the last time he swung a bat?

Good luck to the Birds they return a ton of experience.

Joe Martin does a very nice job at 1st. Will he get any pitching opportunities?

Really? Is there any scheduling conflicts in the spring for him?

That would be the second senior I have heard about giving baseball a go this spring. Just do not understand why JB would want these kids on his team to be honest. Baseball is not easy to pick back up when you have not played for 5 or 6 years.

Only for 5 Rainy days...

Jac is playing. Hope he enjoys it and helps the Birds.

They said Reed Schroder is trying out for the team along with Collinsworth. Also heard that there are 70+ anticipated or tryouts. Wonder if there are any current Frosh that didn't play last year that will be trying out this year? I know some people like to see the student/athletes at HHS play multiple sports. I like to see it because usually they are the better athletes and they definitely can help all the sports they participate in. Good luck to all trying out. Feb 15th can't get here quick enough.

What if, the entire boy Student/Athlete corp showed up for tryouts and committed to the baseball program entirely.

This would challenge Coach Baoni and staff to make some very difficult decisions imo.

I do remember in 20n10 when 15 Srs wanted to tryout for the team and were told dont bother because they hadnt played in 2 or 3 yrs.

Oh yeah, those 15 Srs were all members of the Football State Championship team and 10 of them used to play on a certain team that owned NKY and Greater Cinti in baseball growing up. Just sayin...

I only really say this because someone else had mentioned that JC hasnt played baseball in 3 yrs or 4...

Pretty sure you will see Brady Gesenhues, Trent Casebolt and Austin Mayhew. Too early to tell on any others IMO.
