. No Roy, they had another senior decide to tryout for baseball. Bit of a speedster at that.

Well, he will certainly be a shoe in imo.

 

What position will he be playing... I know he will leadoff but where in the field will he play?

 

Its going to get real interesting with certain kids coming out to play and where all of this kids will play and what positions.

 

Alot of people have been wishing and hoping for these days to come but at what expense.

It will be very interesting that is for sure! You have some good players rejoining, you have others that have put the time in to make it attractive to return. A good time for the program not easy being the decision maker I would imagine!

Molina did a good job at the leadoff position last year and also has good speed.

 

Fairly confident Seidl has played both INF and OF prior to his year off as a JR running track.

 

Regardless of who starts, his addition certainly boosts depth and team speed.

71 kids going to try out. Only grades allowed to try out are 8th-12th. With an overwhelming amount of kids I wonder if Coach B will increase roster size for each team by adding a couple of more. They had 15 players per team last year, might be 17-18 players this season.

I believe they had 18 on the frosh last year..

If overwhelming number of kids coming in.......why let 8th graders in the tryouts? Highlands is a High School........why cut a HIGH SCHOOL student, to allow an 8th grader that is NOT a HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT to play?

 

Especially when you have an "overwhelming amount of kids"

 

Not just a HHS issue.....see it just about everywhere except CCH.

 

IMO........8th graders are fine IF no other cuts are made......but you should not keep one 8th grader if you cut ONE HS Student......

CovCath doesn't have a middle school right next door like other schools do. Highlands developed freshman teams to allow middle school kids to play baseball and softball. There are middle school kids that do Cross Country and Track. HHS wants to develope athletes and allow them to compete for positions. The argument about high school kids shouldn't be cut to make room for a middle school kid is crazy. If that middle school kid is superb then he/she is going to play over that high school kid. We just have that luxury here in Ft. Thomas. Last year a Freshman started varsity baseball at shortstop. Should he have just played Freshman because he was a freshman. Highlands is also a middle school not just a high school!

Because the Freshman goes to the school and the 8th grader doesn't .......

 

 

Probably a topic for it's own thread since this isn't only a HHS thing. Not meaning to pick on the Birds..........Has always been a pet peave of mine.

That argument holds no water when the 8th grader is allowed to try out. If thats a pet peeve then this discussion is over because you will never understand. No coach in their right mind will take a average freshman over a superb 8th grader.
